Kevin Garnett Looking to Slow Antawn Jamison

It’s one of the key matchups in the Celtics/Cavs series, with KG hoping to do to Jamison what he did to Michael Beasley in the previous series. From the Boston Globe: “The Miami players believed Beasley could exploit Garnett with his athleticism and ability to take the slower Garnett off the dribble. But that advantage never materialized, and during stretches of Game 4, Garnett looked dominant and Rivers allowed him to log a season-high 37 minutes as he aided the Celtics’ rally. In Tuesday’s fourth quarter, Garnett canned two jumpers during a 6-0 run that increased the Celtics’ lead to an insurmountable 12. After the second shot, Garnett sprinted down the floor, pumping his arms slightly as if he had just crossed a major hurdle of his resurrection. He would much rather discuss team defense or laud his teammates for their efforts in the Miami series, but his offensive improvement will be an issue against Cleveland. Jamison is going to have to come out and guard Garnett as he stands 18 feet from the basket. And the Cavaliers may have to double when Garnett gathers a Rajon Rondo pass in the post and ponders his next move. That may not have occurred even three months ago. But that confidence is there and Garnett, silently, will look to exploit his matchup with Jamison, just as he did with Beasley. ‘I wasn’t even focusing on how I was scoring the ball, my focus was on Beasley and Haslem and now it’s on Jamison,’ he said. ‘It should be a good matchup. I have a lot of respect for what ‘Twan’ has done in this league.’’’

    tick tock time will tell, be glad the Cavs are smarter than the fans who’s head did swell. Before the tap fans are throw’n verbal bows, and KG age may show but he’s still able to close. Don’t sleep on P Double I’ll tell you the Truth, when he gets in a groove you’ll ask Shaq to go into a phone booth…to change into the man of steel because he knows Paul & Ray are the real deal. No one can stop LeBron but yes he can be slowed down and I bet KG does go out to cover him as his chest he pounds. It’s corny but original…stop sampling. hahaha. Don’t underestimate the old timers and don’t forget that the Cavs are supposed to win the 1st 2 at home but will they?

    Its just incredible how the Boston Globe Managed to forget about the Celtics are gonna not have to worry about Jamison as much and worry about that guy LeBron. Garnett is not gonna be a determing factor in the series.

    I bet most were reading the article waiting to hear KG say something negative so they could jump all over him for it. lol. since that didn’t happen I guess his age is the next best thing….Jamison has been around for a while too, along w/ Shaq & Z. We just have more senior citizens than the Cavs: KG, PP, Ray, Finley & Sheed.

    witness, what article are you talking about? Everything I’ve read is about Cleveland not being a one man show and how The C’s have to be ready for all the other players as well as LBJ. I may have missed it b/c i don’t check the Boston & Cleveland papers looking for something to complain about. As usual I want to see a 7 game series. Let the games begin!!!

    Watch out with the odor because Garnett raises his hand everytime he gets dunked on instead of actually trying to block the shot. Kind of saying, “It’s my fault”…..well be prepared to have the arena in Ohio fumigated because it’s going to stink bad.

    Maybe this sounds silly, but shouldn’t the Globe be worrying about how Garnett will slow down Jamison from 12-22 feet?!
    Sh*t, if I’m the Cavaliers, Antawn is getting the ball anytime LeBron isn’t exploiting whoever is guarding him. Garnett’s explosiveness is gone, so is his lateral quickness.
    (Sidenote)
    The Heat didn’t have the perimeter shooting (on the series) to draw the defence out from the interior, which was part of the reason Wade couldn’t slice inside/create as much as he needs to for the Heat to get good looks.
    “Funnily” enough, when Wade’s team-mates (Q, Beas & Chalmers) hit open shots, Wade could create/score (46) etc etc etc.
    I don’t see the same thing happening with the Cavaliers. They’ve got better perimeter shooters than the Heat overall, and a dominant bigman who can push Perkins around inside.

    I believe their was mention that the bigs for Cleveland could stretch the defense and someone on the C’s mentioned trying to get out to the jump shooters. Actually the Globe doesn’t have to worry about any of this stuff, it’s The C’s who have to deal with it on the court and I’m sure they are well aware of what is coming. Have you read any Ohio papers? hhhmmmm.

    If the Celtics want to take the series, in my opinion, Ray Allen is the key. If he shoots the ball well, its really hard to key on Pierce or Garnett. If he goes cold, they have no chance. He can’t fade like he does some games. And Pierce has to play the way he has in the playoffs, and they have to find a way to at least slow James down. Their best bet is probably make him a jumpshooter, but the way he’s been shooting lately, that might not even work. Gonna be a really hard fought series, I’ll say Cavs in 7.

    ^ I agree, the Celts are not winning this game with their forwards. The key for the Celtics is their backcourt play; Rajon Rondo especially, as well as Ray Allen can both exploit the weaker Cavs’ guards.
    Also, Perkins needs to get mean with Shaq.

    I don’t see a single position where the Celtics have a real advantage.
    Rondo/Nate Vs. Delonte/Mo= push
    Ray/Tony/Marquis vs Jamario/Anthony=push
    Pierce vs Bron= Cavs
    Garnet vs Jamison = push
    Perkins vs Shaq = push.
    Before, the Celtics had clear a clear advantage at the two and four. No longer.
    Cleveland wins fairly handily.

    PG: Rondo over Mo Williams (Rondo will not shrink if Mo is having a great game but Mo may shrink if Rondo is having one.)
    SG Ray over Anthony Parker (Don’t sleep on Parkers game)
    C Perk v Shaq (The Hulk vs Superman 1 : which Shaq shows up & which Perk shows up, Will Shaq look slow or confident? Will Perk be strong or foul plagued? The bench Bigs could decide this one)
    PF KG vs Jamison (Again it depends on which KG shows up and if he can sustain it all series. Slight edge to Jamison on this one until KG proves otherwise)
    SF LBJ over PP (This was easy but this one is interesting b/c PDouble will not shrink even though LBJ will do his thing
    The Bench: Pick em
    G Delonte West, G/F Jamario Moon, F/C J.J. Hickson, F/C Anderson Varejao, G/F Jawad Williams, F/C Zydrunas Ilgauskas vs G/F Tony Allen, F/C Glen Davis, F/C Rasheed Wallace, G Michael Finley, G Nate Robinson, Marquis Daniels (This is just one mans opinion.

    mo williams like most point guards it seems should be playing the 2 but his court vision gives him enough advantage as well as the fact that the cavs need someone at point gives him the job. mos shot is terrific and for a guard he can post up well, fortunatley rondos only a perimeter defnder but rondos a pure point and can kill him thats a toss up even though rondos CONSIDERED better i mean honestly the real star oft he celtics is eitehr the truth or rondo…. shooting guards goes to the celtics………….lebron vs the truth is so obvious-and then antawn vs kg is a push like allenp said ……….center is obviously shaq i mean if u asked me if joakim or perkins its joakim but when shaq was playing joakim was getting killed nobody stops shaq in the paint..in the end its not the matchuups that determine a game unless the matchups are seriously sick….the flow of the game is what deteremines it lol yall already knew that

    What did i say… it’s half time now and KG is giving Antawn BUCKETS!!!shame on those who thought AJ would do any damage.. Mo can’t guard rondo if his life depended on it.. West is having a nice game SO FAR.. and Ray hasn’t got many touches still has 6.. when he gets hot it’s a wrap… and perk drew first blood lol..

    Two things are clear to me after the first game. KG is looking like KG, and the Cavs don’t have a answer for Rondo. Celtics have a great chance to win this series.
