LeBron James and Co. to Get Some Rest

The Cavs have locked up homecourt advantage throughout the postseason, so there’s no need for the starters to expend any more energy than necessary prior to the Playoffs. The Plain Dealer reports: “Over the past four years, once the Cavs have locked into a playoff spot, coach Mike Brown has sat starters to provide rest. But never have things been settled with so much time left. That fact, plus another huge variable, Shaquille O’Neal, has the team pondering just how to use the time their strong play has afforded them. ‘I’m not sure there is a right way to do it,’ Brown said. ‘It’s a luxury to be able to rest players so we’re going to want to do that.’ LeBron James has made it clear he favors taking some time off. He’s a little banged up and has been dealing with a sore left elbow, among other minor maladies, the past few games. James will probably get at least two of the remaining five games off. Which ones, however, are part of the process the team is considering now. ‘You’d love to get some rest before the playoffs start,’ James said. ‘I think there’s a few guys who want to keep playing but there’s a few guys who want a little rest and I’m one of them. Once we’ve clinched, the games take on a different meaning.”‘

The King really deserves to take some time off, that man’s average is almost a triple-double. Give him some rest!

  • neaorin

Sit LeBron for the next three games, play him no more than 20 mins vs Orlando and Atlanta. Set a 20 minutes per night hard cap for the rest of the starters as well.

    fu*k em…

  • LA Huey

King Mattress… I wish I could just reverse-hyperbolic-chamber it until the eve of the playoffs.

  • T-Money

I think Mike Brown won’t want to give ATL and ORL a free look of its fully-loaded (with Mo, D-West, Jamison, Andy and Shaq all playing) line up.

  • LA Huey

@T-Money, like it matters with ATL. Barring a Josh Smith’s jumper catching fire (ala Dwight’s free-throw shooting last year), Hawks could consider it a success if they can take the Cavs to 6 games.

  • Chazz Michael Michaels

LeBron James will be the first player in the NBA to get the Coach of the Year award…other than the Flint Tropics very own Jackie Moon!!!!!!!!

  • Tommy Patron

There go the ticket prices for the Bulls game on Thursday….

Good news for the Raptors tonight.

  • wilz

probably bad news S. Man, the raptors will probably just get outplayed by their bench players a la Gsate, houston, portland, washington..who else..
perhaps im buying into the pessimism too early. theyll get it done 2night

Time for JJ Hickson to break out.

  • underdog

@Chazz: Jackie Moon wouldn’t sit out the last five games.

  • peter

yeah don’t worry about all those paying customers whose only reason for wanting to see the cavs play is lebron james…michael jordan said once that part of his motivation for going all out every night is that there may be one person in the crowd who had never seen him play and he wanted to prove to them what he could do…

  • slamfan4life

Yay!!! Now bulls have a chance on Thurs!

  • Ree Roe

@ LA Huey, we can take CLE to more than 6 games if we see them in the playoffs. If we can put together a solid 4th Q (which we’ve been unable to do vs CLE so far this yr) my Hawks can hang with & beat CLE. Go Hawks

  • nastruthomas

@ Ree Roe….ha. that is all.

I swear some people just find reasons to get mad at Lebron.
    I swear.

The Raptors are very, very thankful, Cavs.

The sad thing is wilz, you’re probably right.

  • Michael Scorn

LeBron shouldn’t play at all in case he gets injured. Why play in qualifying games, when you can just wait until the playoffs. That’s his attitude toward the Olympics right?

  • wrong hoop ricky

@ peter. was this before or after mj won 6 rings? the only thing on lebron’s mind right now is getting over the mountain of a first championship.

  • neaorin

Apparently “giving the starters some rest” means playing them for 30+ minutes even though Chris Bosh went out in the 1st quarter. Meanwhile Moon, Powe, Danny Green and Gibson combine for 6 minutes. Well done Mike Brown.

  • ab_40

that means no cleveland orlando clash next sunday. hopefully shaq can play in one or two games. 30 mpg just to get some gametime in. Orlando, Cleveland and the Lakers are the biggest and best teams. let’s hope they’re all at full strength when they face… IF they face off. Boston looks bored very very very bored it’s called the sheed effect I’m curious to see if they can flip the switch when it matters.

  • Mr. Robinson

I wonder what people will say when the Cavs win the title. All the LeBron haters are probably going to hate him more. A lot of people barely know what real basketball players look like.

  • The Philosopher

    Shout out to Jeff Ruland.

  • Mr. Robinson

Philosopher: You always shout out players that a lot of people don’t know. I’m suprised anyone knows some of the names you throw out. Jeff Ruland?!?! Classic.

  • The Philosopher

@Mr. Robinson: Whwtever the topic is, whatever team is related to the topic, I’ll shout out a player who has played for that team most of the time. Sometimes I’ll shout out any player. Thanks for the rrspect.

  • The Philosopher

I was going to shout out Les Jepsen the other day, but…

  • Mr. Robinson

Philosopher: How old are you, 75 or something?

  • The Philosopher

@Mr. Robinson: Older than 18, younger than 35. I told someone a while ago up here that I drink, eat, and sleep NBA basketball. I live it.

  • Mr. Robinson

Philosopher: OK, who was the SECOND overall pick in the 79′ draft?

  • The Philosopher

@Mr. Robinson: with all due respect, you have to do better than that with me. But, David Greenwood. Bill Cartwright went third.
