Dwight Howard: ‘Hakeem Inspired Me to Keep Playing’

Prior to last night’s pivotal Game 4 of the ECF in Boston, The Dream reached out to Dwight with some words of encouragement. The Sentinel has the story: “Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard got an emotional pick-me-up from another big guy before Monday night’s Eastern Conference game against the Boston Celtics: Hakeem Olajuwon, the former great with the Houston Rockets, talked to Dwight to offer words of inspiration. ‘Me and him had a great talk,’ Howard said. ‘He just inspired me to keep playing. So I didn’t want to give up, because I just felt like there was a lot of people pulling for us to keep going. That was it.’ So how did that work out? Hours later, after all the elbows, all the energy and all the excitement, Howard finished 32 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks.”

Boy, that makes for a real great story. Too little, too late. Dwight should have been hitting up Dream last off season. Not waiting for a pick me up when his team is on the mat.

What IS Hakeem up to these days? Is he still involved with the NBA some how?

@barnabusb- Hakeem wasn’t doing anything, until he was asked to wear the Magics jersey for their game last night.

#1, the “real” story is that KG wasn’t the only one who got a sneaky backhand across the face from Howard. Good morning Ewing. lol #2Howard had a heck of a game last night but Hakeem he was not. #3 Does this mean Van Gundy keeps his job until the next Magic loss?

  • BostonBaller

I take back some of #2..Howard’s NUMBERS were Hakeem like but the moves were still basic. He is a beast though

so he was going to quit until dream called him?

  • max

hakeem should inspire him to get some post moves

  • Bdub

If he does get some post moves. He will be more of a freak than he already is. Thats an ‘if’ at the moment though. How as PP’s dunk? Didn’t know he still had it in him…..

The NBA will crack down on the flailing Howard soon, I hope.

Patrick Ewing is rolling around in his grave.

Patrick Ewing should have been enough to motivate him.. But nice story nonetheless.

Maybe this can explain how things went a lil’ foul in the magic locker room.. http://stacktv.stack.com/video.aspx?videoID=40034288001_109&ref=athlete43

If this is true, why did Howard give ALL the credit for their victory to God instead of Hakeem? I get athletes wanting to thank god for their athletic ability, or their placement in life… but Howard was thanking God for LETTING HIM WIN THE GAME… to me, that’s all the explanation I need on why the Magic are losing the series.

Jukai, he was saying that at halftime too. Strange. We all know hes a religious guy but hes been pretty quiet about it all his career until last night weird. Jameer did a great job running the offense and finding dwight quickly when he was open

Im sure pat has been helping, but dwight hears him every day. Sometimes a lil help from the outside sounds different, even tho its the same

Agree with Jukai. ‘God wanted us to win, I couldn’t do it without Him’. So what, God wanted Boston lose? I don’t get it.

    Good point there, Tarzan.

Dwight Howard is the worst best center in the league ever.

  • BostonBaller

The announcers for tonight’s game made a reference to Rocky so let me put this out there: Howard is CLUBBER Lang. Please watch him when he defends/fouls, he always seems to lower the boom at the end of each hit. I know a lot of ppl are going to accuse PDouble of acting but just watch the replays and watch..then talk to me. Some players get called for it and others don’t….

  • BostonBaller

hhhhmmmmm, that last blow by howard was crushing on davis. It’s ALWAYS unintentional….smh. I love old school ball and I’ve been around a while so I know the difference. Throughout the year I’ve called out any Celtic who did something stupid or dirty and I’ve called out howard a few times earlier in the playoffs (1st n 2nd round) He does it w/ a smile on his face or that oh gosh did I do that look, I’m so sorry..smh. Davis could have gotten seriously injured and may still be.

  • BostonBaller

stupid foul by pierce with the shove, he’ll have to pay for that.

  • That Dude

Dwight needs to ask Hakeem to borrow a couple of post moves.
