Howard: Magic Need Players Who ‘Give Everything’

by Ryne Nelson

Dwight Howard questioned his teammates’ desire after last night’s season-ending loss in Boston. From Chris Mannix of SI.com:

“Next year we have got to have guys that are willing to give everything they have got to get wins,” Howard said. “[Boston] played like they wanted to win the championship the whole series. That’s why they are in the position that they are in now.”

Help, of course, can come from the outside. The Magic will be well over the salary cap but can use their mid-level exception to try and lure a veteran power forward into the fold. But ownership might not be quite so eager to push the payroll close to $100 million, not with Redick eyeing a big raise and Williams (or another backup point) needed to relieve Nelson.

Considering Orlando’s sky-high payroll, the Magic’s disheartened leader might be better off focusing his energy on improving aspects of his game, as both a leader and player. But that, of course, is just this writer’s suggestion.

i agree that they are better with hedo.. HEY, why not trade vince to toronto for hedo? hedo wants out of the raps right?.. just kiddin, again hedo is better in that system coz he’s better at creating opportunities for others, and more deadlier in the arc. vc in no way can play point.

i think the biggest problem is jameer. he’s not steady and not the type who can be the leader on a championship team. too many TOs. same reason francis was bad. he turned it over too much. u can tell he doesn’t distribute it evenly each possession down. too often forcing issues. he’s good when he can shoot over 50%, but that’s really just one career year he had and not his game. howard if used right can still be dominant even though he has no post moves, which he should build up and also his free throws. honestly if he was so hard working why doesn’t he have an array of post moves yet. how hard is it to expand your game when that is your job. have better shooting form. his weird catapult action just makes it so hard when there are so many things that can go wrong. seems like he’s having too much fun and working out instead of putting work in the gym. either that or he’s a real slow learner.

If I was Howard, I would shut my mouth up and learn a turn around jump shot or a jump shot facing the basket. Also it would hurt if he could get his foul shooting in the 70% mark. JUST KEEP your mouth shout and improve your self.
