Kobe Bryant Not Surprised By Celtics’ Success

Though the C’s postseason surge has shocked most observers, Bryant tells the media that the team he might once again face in the NBA Finals hasn’t caught him by surprise. From CBS: “For the Lakers, talking about the Celtics  is taboo, to say the least. Andrew Bynum tried it, and Phil Jackson accused him of a brain — um — malfunction. Lakers fans chanted, ‘We want Boston!’ during Games 1 and 2 of the Western Conference finals at Staples Center, and Kobe Bryant chided them for being ‘disrespectful to the team that we’re playing.’ But discussing the Celtics’ surprising blitz though the postseason — evicting LeBron James from the second round and getting his coach fired, and now breezing to a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference finals? That’s fair game. So Bryant was asked on the practice floor Monday how much Boston’s ruthless dismantling of the Magic has surprised him. ‘Honestly? Zero,’ Bryant said. And the Cavs? ‘I just thought it was great defense,’ Bryant said. ‘I just wasn’t surprised by it. You give them a series to prepare, and they’re going to be prepared like you wouldn’t believe. They’re going to home in on things that you do and take those things away from you. And if you can’t make adjustments … throughout a series, you’re going to have problems.’ Yes, even when the Celtics were struggling with a .500 record after Christmas, Bryant saw this coming. ‘They started the season off the right way,’ he said. ‘Once they stepped back and let [Rajon] Rondo do what he does, that team started taking off. They’re a great defensive team — defense, rebounding, that’s how they punch their ticket. That’s how they go about doing it.”‘

Are you surprised by the(insert team)’s success?
Kobe:”No the (insert team) have great (insert teams strength)”
    - Was the reporter expecting him to admit he might not have seen somthing comming?

Basically he’s saying “This is how you should write about the Lakers, too”.

  • kobesBESTfriend

Kobe wont be surprised when they sweep the bum celtics in the finals this year either

  • kobeismypuppy

@kobesbestfriend,get off kobe’s nuts you f@#$ing idiot!obviously kobe knows celtics are coming for ‘em and like he said celtics are a great defensive team…gasoft will always be soft.

  • kobesBESTfriend

hmmm…guess u havent seen the spaniard the last few months,he’s been far from soft…and I guess bullying Qrich makes Garnett hard huh? We’ll see who’s soft when Ron Ron(the best defensive player in the league)applies the clamps 2 the marshmellow C’s in June(that is of course they don’t choke against Orlando)

Strangely, I thought it was the Lakers who have the tougher matchup and if they lose tonight, might wind up on the outside looking in, well unless someone thinks the Magic will win three in a row, which would make you an idiot.

  • kobesBESTfriend

if Rondo’s injury gets worse then yes the Magic can win 3 more games

Eboy, please stay on your prescribed meds….

  • E.R

Celtics will beat the Lakers in 6. Lakers don’t want it as much as the Celtics do. Derek fisher is not looking forward to trying to guard Rondo…

  • Logues

kobesbestfriend: u think kobe was surprised when the c’s shut him down in the ’08 finals? hes in for an even bigger surprise this yr

  • topo

why wouldn’t dfish look forward to guarding rondo? i think he enjoyed guarding westbrook and dwill, and hes doing a good job against nash…why would rondo be so different? hes not even the best of the mentioned guards

  • KoBynum716

Anyone who thinks Celtics have a chance against the Lakers is dumb. If Kobe guards Rondo and Fisher starts on Allen, the matchup problem is taken care of. Perkins is NOT a good center, his job is just easier because KG is there. Gasol is the best PF in the league right now (respect to TD, im just saying this season) and noone can stop him. Celtics and Celtic bandwagoners (celtic fans dont exist pre-2008)are going to be severely disappointed if they actually think they’re gonna come out this series with more than 1 win, maybe 2 bc of the 2-3-2 schedule.

Eboy, eboy, eboy. A hater and a traitor. I wonder who his team will be next year…

I am a fan of good basketball and honestly it is a 50/50. Celtic’s are tough with 4 all stars and playing good defense. Lakers have been there so hopefully they learned to get pushed around and respond with buckets and defense.
On the other hand just as Kobe gets dismissed because he won with Shaq, the same rule applies with Boston because they only won with 3 huge stars..
That’s why I consider Rondo not to be that good. All teams worry about the other 3 so he plays freely.

Wow, topo it’s amazing how your internet connection allows you to post here from way out that parallel universe you live in. Fish cannot guard anyone anymore, and the way Nash has so far been “contained” this series is more a testament to LA’s excellent team defense (i.e. Length) than anything else. And I would take Rondo right now, as he is, ahead of every single one of the league’s top PGs. That’s the truth. I HATE how everyone is still not acknowledging his game, even after he burned Mo Williams and the CAvs down in the previous series. Watch him play. Please. Listen to Marc Jackson gush over how he’s playing the position better than anyone else in the league now. That’s just an ignorant comment, saying how he isn’t still a top-flight PG. Geez.

  • http://www.slamonline melvin ely

@ Jorge: wow, again, it’s amazing how some cats are straight up disrespecting Rajon. He’s good because the other team focuses on the big 3? WTF? Well, the Cavs must be total f**kin idiots then, cuz that guy they weren’t paying attention to just totally manhandled them game after game. I guess Mike Brown is a really bad coach huh? That’s, wow, I can’t believe how people are still sleeping on this dude. And the rest of your post is just nonsense, so I won’t even begin to try to dissect that, cuz migraines are not fun.

The Celtics match up with the Lakers better than any team at every position. although no-one can shut him down, Ray Allen is one of the best in the League at staying with Kobe and making him work for everything. Garnett looks like he is feeling much more confident on that knee, so making Pau work hard won’t be as much of a struggle for him. Not predicting anything at this stage as I’m still enjoying the Conference Finals, but if the Lakers and Celtics make it back to the Finals, it’s going to be a classic series which hopefully goes 7.

I must say that Kobe (even more so than the rest of the League) is a walking cliche machine. Find something original to say!

  • topo

im looking forward to the finals for melvins hero finals mvp performance

  • era

    both teams played hard!

  • hoodsnake

Jeez sounds like most of the posters here saw something hard up close over the weekend!

  • rikson

Wow, hows the black-white world you live in?! Nobody said Rondo is bad, and nobody is sleeping on him! We just say, that he looks better than he is right now – you cant argue that! Btw close call Melvin but Im still waiting for the word “hater”…

  • riggs

man the idiots come out at night huh? alot of stupidity in these comments (i.e. derek fisher can handle rondo? LMAO)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

It’s always great to be right.

  • http://www.slamonline melvin ely

@topo: I highly doubt it. After all, Rondo’s only as good as the other team’s allowing him to be, right?

  • http://ekama.vip-blog.com samuel blaise joseph ndiaye

both teams are have good players

  • boston baller

Celtics in 6 end of discussion!!!! Aint nobody can’t stop Rondo except himself yes even the mumbo jumbo Kombo. Makes me laugh how he’s supposed to be a shooting guard but don’t and can’t guard Ray Allen. Get serious Fakers fans, do you really think we’re gonna lose at home? All those blocks by the Celtics in game two were all clean and somehow it was mostly free points for the Fakers! Seriously, them refs needs to stop helping the Lakers!!!! It’s about to be physical up in here so please refs let them so we could all see how soft the Fakers really is…… You can have your steak bcus up in Boston we have Jesus!!!!
