NBA Announces All-Defensive Teams

Rajon Rondo and Gerald Wallace make their First Team debut (this is actually Wallace’s first All-Defensive Team selection). Disappointing vote total for Kobe, who finished second just last season. KB’s First Team votes dropped by 11, and eight coaches didn’t find him worthy of even a Second Team honor. (As always, two points were awarded for a First Team vote and one point was awarded for a Second Team vote.)

’09-10 NBA ALL-DEFENSIVE FIRST TEAM
Player First Second Points
Dwight Howard 28 1 57
Rajon Rondo 23 4 50
LeBron James 20 5 45
Kobe Bryant 13 8 34
Gerald Wallace 11 8 30
’09-10 NBA ALL-DEFENSIVE SECOND TEAM
Tim Duncan 8 5 21
Dwyane Wade 8 4 20
Josh Smith 6 8 20
Anderson Varejao 2 11 15
Thabo Sefolosha 3 8 14
Other notables, with point totals (First Team votes in parentheses): Jason Kidd, 12 (4); Marcus Camby, 12 (1); Ron Artest, 11 (3); Deron Williams, 10, (2); Kirk Hinrich, 9 (1); Andrew Bogut, 8; Luc Mbah a Moute, 8 (1)

You people talk crap, most specially the regular douche bag who comment’s here.

Try defending wing players and perimeter guards if you have two broken fingers and a bum knee..

you talk a lot of s**t and a lot of confidence making the assumptions as if you experience defending professional b-ball player.

They deserved to be there, as much as I hate Varejao to be on that list. But he deserved it.
The coaches are smarter and get a closer look on every player playing on the court every game so they know more as much as we do.

    So shut the f**k up!!!

^ “Try defending wing players and perimeter guards if you have two broken fingers and a bum knee..”
If a player is injured and can’t defend as well as another player on his team, he shouldn’t be on the freaking list!

    @Myles: kirk hinrich

varejao deserves to be in that place. though Bron and josh smith must switch up.

Just wondering how do Josh Smith finish second in dpoy but he makes the second team..just curious to know

I’m a big Spurs fan and I really don’t think Timmy should be all-defense this year. He’s on the list by reputation.

  • Spetsnaz

Having Kobe on that list is a joke, u might as well put Ben Wallace in the 1st team as well. Also I don’t know how Wade is there considering he defends no one to save his energy. Q-Rich is always given the tougher defensive assignment

I think this team should be called the All Star All Defensive Team

Thabo made 2nd Team? But wait, how? Euros are soft, right? Gummi bear soft. Take that!!! Thabo is the 1st Swiss basketballer to be named all NBA anything. A fantastic achievement. Meilleures salutations, Monsieur Sefolosha.

Hey omni, i take issue with being insulted because i have an opinion, say your piece, omit the generalization, or go swear around on youtube (where the real douche nozzles roam).

  • Cmac

Varejao? what the hell? there are so many better defenders… wheres bogut at?

    WHERE’S ANDREW BOGUT!!!!

  • Flash

When is Kobe going to die so dwade can be on the first team?

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

@Myles – Trevor Ariza, Kyle Lowry (yes Lowry at 6’1 plays the 2 with AB at 1)
Ariza should be on that list. So should Chuck Hayes. So should Shane Battier.
    What a fu*king joke of a list.
Good to see Rondo and Wallace make that list, but jeezus, it’s overall awful.

The ghost of Ben Wallace played better D than LeBron and Kobe this year…

  • Elias

Ron Artest and Josh Smith sould replace Kobe and Lebron. This just shows you that NBA sucks up the big superstars. Nice to see Gerald Wallace get some love.

Regardless of opinion, fact is Kobe made the first team. This selection is his 8th first team selection, which is tied for the second most behind 9 for MJ and GP respectively (TD, Pip, Bobby Jones and KG also have 8). It is also his tenth overall selection, which is tied for 3rd most ever, behind TD and Cap and tied with KG and Pip. This is the type of thing that will get figured into his legacy when all is said and done and SLAM and other magazines are trying to figure where to put him in the top 10 ever.

Hursy: so you want 4 players for team that’s ranked 21st in points allowed (102 a game!) and 23rd in opponents’ fg% on the all-nba defensive teams? Lemme guess… you’re from Houston? / There’s a reason Cleveland and LA are on top of every defensive category and it’s not just because of Artest and Varejao.

Switch Wade and Josh Smith for Kobe and LeBron.

  • Jacob (from Australia)

I’d go 1st team – Dwight, Josh Smith, Battier, Thabo and Rondo. 2nd team – Bogut, Wallace, Bron, Wade and Kidd.

no votes for Kendrick Perkins? also, Battier should’ve been on there. he probably didn’t get votes because his team didn’t make the playoffs, but I’d still say he’s the best perimeter defender in the league.

  • mems

lebron is such an overrated defender. easy to be a “great” defender when you never get called for fouls or goal tending. smh nba

  • mems

    kobe shouldn’t be there either

  • mems

how does battier get overlooked by this every year? and id have chuck hayes on there waaay before varejao. not to be a rockets homer but at least give spots to those who deserve it. not just superstar players. thats lame
