Paul Pierce: ‘There’s Nothing Wrong With Me’

Though Celtics fans may disagree, Pierce insists that he’s doing just fine in the Cavs series. If Boston is to pull off the upset, even he has to know that he’ll need to do a lot more offensively. From the Boston Herald: “Paul Pierce’s struggles in the Eastern Conference semifinals have been so prolonged and pronounced that it’s natural to wonder if anything is ailing the Celtics [team stats] captain. But Pierce yesterday reported that he is healthy. ‘There’s nothing wrong with me,’ Pierce said. ‘The key for me is just being focused, being ready and giving my team what it needs to win.’ Pierce is averaging just 11.8 points on 32 percent field-goal shooting against the Cavs. Much of that can be attributed to the defense of LeBron James, who has used superior size, strength and quickness to neutralize Pierce. James’ influence on the other end has played an equal role in disrupting Pierce’s game. ‘I’ve been troubled by foul trouble,’ Pierce said. ‘It’s been really kind of throwing me off. I’ve been getting two quick fouls pretty much every game in the first quarter, so hopefully I can clean that up and I can be more consistent.”’

I do think it’s all about his defense on LBJ. He gets seemingly get everything called against him on D and can’t seem to get calls on offense. Guarding Lebron is a thankless task.

P double has also been troubled by that spare tire he carries around on his belly.

  • 2Dope Posted: May.11 at 12:45 pm
Spare Tire? I dont think his conditioning is the reason. As an avid Celts fan I can see that he simply doesnt have it anymore, at least not on a cosistent basis. He can’t guard Lebron (99% of the league cant), he’s taking bad shots, forcing dribble penetration, taking bad fouls, turning over the ball, and looks a step slow. It happens – he’s getting old, but I dont see the effort and killer instict this year. He needs to get the ball to Rondo, get out of his way and pick his spots, of which he’ll get plenty if Bron switches on D.

So… Who is the 1% who can guard Lebron…?

  • Dma Posted: May.11 at 2:49 pm
Can lebron guard lebron? My money is no.

  • barnabusb Posted: May.11 at 3:33 pm
A young MJ couldn’t guard LeBron. Oh snap, I said it!

  • IndyB Posted: May.11 at 4:37 pm
Not with the calls LeBron gets.

  • Chris Posted: May.11 at 5:17 pm
No one can guard Lebron one on one. Paul Pierce has done as good of a job as anyone can expect…. So far, Lebron, in the games they lost has been turnover prone and his hapless teammates (despite their skills) have no idea what to do when Lebron isn’t going off with a triple double. I blame Brown on that one. He is one horrific coach that never gave Lebron a role. If Lebron is supposed to be a scorer, then let him do that. If he is supposed to be a facilitator, then let him do that. Just don’t expect everything from him and nothing from anyone else. It is unfair to him, and, frankly, disrespectful to an amazingly talented team of basketball players.

The only thing wrong is LeBron having better D then Quentin Richardson

I think Pierce is ok folks. lol..Oh and guess what….Cleveland is going to choke. Again.

And guess what..Cleveland did choke, again!

Who used the word craft for P Double? That was a perfect description. He was aggressive last night and I think that was the difference in his game plus he didn’t get whistled for silly early fouls. @Chris, You can not pigeon hole a player like LBJ and say “ok you are just a scorer so go score or you are just a passer so go pass, etc etc.” Then everyone would say that Brown is limiting him and not using the vast talents he has. The problem stems from when one player dominates the ball in certain games to the point of his teammates having no clue when they are going to get it and be expected to produce. (they should always be ready though). When you have the #1b player in the L you are supposed to rely on him to be The Man and being the man means doing it when it really counts and when you are down. I say #1b b/c in order to be the man you have to dethrone the man. whooooooo!! This series is NOT over folks!

Grant hill can guard LeBron lol but the Suns are going to the finals and the Cavs are going to choke again!

  • rafael Posted: May.12 at 11:04 am
P Double is fine, he might be getting old but he still get his. He’s doing one hell of a job trying to contain LBJ. That’s what I love about P Double he aint afraid of a challenge unlike any other superstar. Last night was a perfect example!!!! Oh yeah we’re taking the Eastern Conference and win that championship back in Beantown.@ bamabushb- MJ can’t guard LBJ what? Asked yourself this, can LBJ guard MJ? You need Kobe and LBJ to stop HIS AIRNESS period. Charles Barkley would put LBJ to shame, Pippen would have no problem guarding him, Rodman would just drive him nuts.
