Phoenix Suns ‘Welcome’ Disrespect vs. Lakers

Most media members have already penciled the Lakers into the NBA Finals, something that some Suns say they welcome. For instance, Jason Richardson, speaking to the Arizona Republic: “The latest jab came from Bill Plaschke, a Los Angeles Times columnist and ESPN personality who wrote Monday after the Lakers swept Utah that ‘the Phoenix Suns have no chance.’ Ouch. ‘We love comments like that,’ Suns guard Jason Richardson said. ‘We invite comments like that.’ … ‘It’s Stoudemire and Frye … is it Frye?’ (Ron) Artest asked. ‘It’s all good,’ Frye said. ‘I don’t care what anybody says ever. If it was up to everybody, we wouldn’t even be in the playoffs. They can say whatever they want. They still got to play us and he’s gonna know my name by the end of the series.’ … ‘People were saying the same thing going into the San Antonio series,’ Grant Hill said. ‘Some were even saying the same thing going into Portland. I think we kind of like it. We kind of like the fact that we’re underdogs. That kind of motivates us.’”

I would love for Grant Hill to go out with a ‘Chip.

i’m just glad he finally made it out the first round. let’s not get greedy.

Grant Hill and Steve Nash need a ‘chip. The odds are slim to none, but man, I’d love to see it.

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

Getting pretty tired of the broken record that is the Lakers manifest destiny. If they get to the Finals its not going to be a cake walk.

May I direct the Phoenix Suns to SLAMOnline, the place where commenters suckle on the ballbag of the Lakers 24/7!!!!!

don’t sleep on the 2010 suns. they make 3′s like layups

EBOY – quote of the 2010 playoffs.

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

Well, Eboy, commenters would suckle on LeBron’s ballbag but he apparently had it removed before the game the other night.

    Hahaha ^
The things people would debate over on the internet. There both amazing to watch and its always ruined by “who is better” arguments.

I don’t understand how you can be (ring-less) and find more room for motivation when you’re playing for the opportunity to win a championship…

  • riggs

    why is ring-less in parenthesis?

  • Playa

Sorry, Dacre. Brad – quote of the 2010 playoffs. Whether it the Suns or the Lakers headed to the NBA Finals, the Champ is gonna come from the East. Did I just say that?

@Brad Long – well played. Also the “disrespect” angle is so played out. If you’re looking for people to underestimate you, you will find it, guaranteed. And who cares what the media says. I know the Lakers have not disrepected the Suns in the media. Ron Artest? You know he didn’t mean anything by that comment. Instead, go read about what Kobe, Fisher, and Pau are saying. It’s all respect for the Suns.

  • vtrobot

yeah, channing! STMFU! nash and hill definitely need rings. dudley, please do as much damage as possible. lakers, j rich can be dangerous in the playoffs, ‘specially when he’s alongside steve.

  • J-Bird

For Suns fans just being here is kind of a shocker, so anything that happens now is just a pleasant surprise.

  • anti-crust

Yes it will be tough to for the Western Champion to go against any of the 3 tough East possible….Orlando, because they’re young, they probably learned something (can teach a YOUNG dog new tricks), Boston, because they play dirty and rough and the Lakers are still soft especially if Bynum’s base (his knee) is not 100%, and Cav’s because it’s Sterns league and he writes the script. He’ll want his star player to succeed so that whatever choice he makes will be ok. Actually, Phoenix in the finals may stand a better chance, because with their style, I think they would stand as good a chance as the Lakers, however, I think they won’t get past the Lakers, it’s a 7 game series and if the schedule is tight, since it’s been so long since both teams ended their last series…it’ll be who’s gonna adjust and recuperate better as it seems it’ll only be 2-3 days between each game.

  • topo

i like pheonix but lets be realistic , they are going to get pounded…people just hate the lakers so much that they overlook the quality of the team

the lakers are taking this series against the suns, with the help of the refs of course.just like that series happened in 2002 with the kings…

  • Robb

I absolutely love Nash and Grant Hill, but they have no chance of winning a championship. Barkley, Ewing, Payton, Malone and Stockton deserved one too but MJ didn’t allow it. Now Kobe is on a mission and he’s not quitting. This is the age of the Black Mamba. Sorry Suns you’re going down.

  • J-Bird

Mamba hasnt had much success against the suns in the playoffs.

What about all those pundits who disrespected the Lakers by not predicting a sweep of the Jazz?

  • LA Huey

    Good question. Diagnosis: Brain fart

  • jay jay bgoose

disrespected by not predicting a sweep? the lakers were given the series by everyone and their mother. the sweep was just a bonus.

  • BostonBaller

@anti-crust, why is it that Boston is dirty? Rondo has been put down a couple of times each game in this series and none of use are complaining about it. Suns Celtics…that sounds too weird. lol

  • Shem

Suns outrebounded the Spurs, they scored points against a really good defensive Portland team and they’ve had the best record in the NBA since January. After last year, I thought I wouldn’t say this for atleast another 3 years but the Lakers bench is outmatched. Lakers in 6 but the Suns definetly have a chance

  • Robb

@J-Bird and that’s exactly why the Suns have zero chance this time.

  • http://www.youtube.com/ The Promise

Suns in 7. And for saying that, I know I will get verbally assaulted by bandwagon Laker fans that rub Kobe’s scrotum, but oh well, it could always be worse…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Todd Spehr

Bill Plaschke’s opinion matters now? When did that happen?

  • Dapeach

It will be what it will be, but I can tell you the Suns are at least a two game winner. This team has not met the Lakers. 4 of the Lakers last 8 playoff wins were decided by a total of 10 points, two of those 1 point lucky misses by their opponents. They have not been dominant. It will be itneresting to see how the extremely well shooting, deep bench Suns play with this Laker team. The idea that Steve Nash isn’t on as much of a mission as Kobe is another underestimation of the Two time MVP and his team. Amare has been called by all of the commentators and experts, “The best player since the Allstar Break”, how is it a lock the Suns are out if the Lakes had to fight like dogs to get past the young inexperienced Thunder, and the severely depleted Jazz? Bring on the series and all of the Laker lore and stop your bragging, it will only make your fall harder. The Suns have nothing to lose and everything to gain, and they have played with more heart than any team in the playoffs.

  • Mark J

The Lakers are in for a surprise. This is not the same team they faced early in the year. They are faster, stronger and deeper. They have a phenomenal bench which is almost as good as there starters, for the lakers to win they will need Kobe and Gasol playing all the time—they won’t be able to rest their starters and phoenix bench will clobber the Lakers bench. The Lakers are a great team but Phoenix is on a mission and are playing both great defence and offence.

    lebumm’s chicks are celebrating tonight!

“Boston will win only one game if they are lucky” – chuckster

  • buppie

LOS SUNS need only fear the officiating in the WCF. That, and Sheriff Joke Arpaio rounding up Nash and Barbosa UND DEMANDING ZIE PAPERS!

    from Phoenix,
    Go Suns!
    Boycott AZ

  • Jorge

Wow, Now that Lebron is gone, Kobe is looking real good in his seat. Since he didn’t get the MVP, somebody is going to become his toy to show that he deserved it, it might as well be Los Soles.

  • http://psp2423@yahoo.com 323 356 9658

Why the hell do people think the suns will win? You have to be F***ing stupid to think this! Kobe is on a mission and he wont stop at nothing until he gets the ring!Sorry suns but the laker length and determination to win is just unstoppable by any western team notice i said western not all. Kobe will, will triumph. Its funny that evrybody thinks the suns are good just cause they beat the blazers and spurs.

  • Dapeach

No, we think the Suns are good because they have been Dominant since the Allstar Break and the way in which they beat both of their playoff opponents. Also, by the way the Lakers were NOT dominant since the Allstar break or in their first two series. They can be beaten and are vulnerable. You’re just one of that mass Laker fanbase who are in denial about their limitations. This Boston team with Garnett back can take them, so can Orlando. The Suns and the loyal relish the Laker braggadocio. It will make victories that much more savory.

    LAKER HATER (EST. 1996)

  • One Eyed Rambler

This should be a good series. Suns will play tough to the end. We know what the Lakers can do..more question marks concerning the suns. As a Suns fan, I fear that the Lakers will try and shut down J.Rich, like they did in the regular season. The Suns starters need to play nearly even with the Lakers starters and the Suns bench needs to outplay the the Lakers bench for the Suns to have a chance.

  • Speedy

I have been sitting back reading all these postings and getting a real laugh at them. The suns fans say the Lakers are not a dominant team, but never paid much attention to the games they played. If you had, you would have noticed they kept pulling their key players out and playing the bench. And HELLO, they swept the Jazz! You can keep looking at the points spread all you want, but again the Jazz would be up by 10 to 15 points in the beginning and still lose! Not a dominant team…Lakers were just playing a game of cat and mouse!

Last of all, did you see the weather report for California? It is supposed to be gorgeous tonight when the suns go down! LOL
