Allen Iverson Returning in ’10-11?

For better or for worse, AI’s pushing for another season in the League: “Allen Iverson is working on a comeback. Gary Moore, Iverson’s personal manager, said that Iverson is planning a return to the NBA next season. Iverson returned to the Philadelphia 76ers in December and took a leave of absence in March because of family issues. ‘Allen is working out and he’s getting himself prepared to make his return,’ Moore said by phone Friday. ‘He absolutely will try and play next year.’”

let’s see, where can he start… charlotte if they don’t re-sign felton… philly… maybe he could take the minimum and gravy train in miami… memphis is out… am i missing anything?

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

Honestly…who would pay this guy to start and drag thier team down?

  • Hussman25

Nope @ chiqo: Those are the only 3 viable options and Id say Philly is #1. This was a direct call or statement to Doug Collins letting him know he’s available. If and I mean IF he’s in shape, committed, and prepared to do a full 82; he would be great in Philly as a 6th or 7th man, playing 20-25 per w/ most of his minutes coming in the 4th. He’s a closer and if the Sixers deal Iggy and or Lou Williams they will need a scorers punch. I dont want to see him in any other Jersey other than a Sixers Jersey ever again… Just doesnt look right

  • Hussman25

But in all honesty I wish he would retire, but what would he do for the rest of his life??? TV: Naw… Coaching: Pass… Front office: Funny…

  • Jay

SWEET!!!! I hope he comes back n proves to everyone why he still THE ANSWER!!

  • jumpman3224

Iverson may come back, but the Answer is not walking through that door.

  • Sam

Iverson, “waaaaaa! i’m just making up lies because i’m not playing good anymore so i’m making excuses!!!” he’s done, after detroit, he’s done.

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling chiqo

if iverson would just come off the bench, he could go a number of places and be of value to a team that would at least be in playoff contention.

  • barnabusb

Iverson and T-Mac, all stars in 2011!

  • LD

Cleveland should give him a max contract if LeBron leaves.

  • cp3fan

I just want AI to play a full season and do it the right way so that he can retire with a good name. Going out the way he had to last season is not how he wants to end his career.

  • Brian

That wasn’t him playing the 2 for LA last night?

  • Chris

There is a good chance he may go to the Knicks. They need a strong experienced point guard, and if he is willing to be paid the veterans minimum the Knicks can go over the cap to get him, should they sign Lebron and Bosh.

I’m not sure if he would fit well in with that group, but right now he may be the best out there for the Knicks, without accounting for any sign and trades.

I still hope the Knicks can somehow finagle CP3 or Collison for the Hornets, but AI may be a viable option for them. If he doesn’t work out, then sit him on the bench like they did to poor Nate the great.

  • Arek

He should come to the Lakers, take the veteran minimum and play garbage minutes for us.. he’ll get himself a ring finally

  • John Starks

I loved watchin Iverson growin up..so much heart

  • robert stewart

Wonder if he’ll still have a signature shoe? Is it really possible he could play next year? I love AI but who really wants/needs a slow, aged, underweight, gunner that plays no defense?

  • Aaron

    Someone change the record already.

  • johnny c

why does he gotta come off the bench? of all the hall of fame players out there, how many of them were ever forced to come off the bench late in their careers? playing reduced minutes, i can understand that, but being benched? F*** THAT!

  • J-RO

he could back up Farmar for the Lakers if Fisher is done. Or he should join lebron in the Clippers

  • Aaron

He’s not a HOFer. I think he’ll get votes, but he likely won’t get in.

  • Exiled Zebra

All in all, hes a great guy. I hope his family issues are better

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Cosign Wayno…and Chiqo… I hope he does return, but he needs to accept a role, not expect to be given the keys and driver seat.. He could still be a starter, but I wouldnt make him my #1 or 2 option.. Maybe Spurs,or 3rd free agent to knicks.

this is what i wrote without knowing that you are here my little one:
SUCH A PERFECT DAY !!!! After LAKERS winning and CELTICS losing,…after Artest giving a performance for the ages (especially after the game) and Gasol making me look like a prophet,…after Kobe getting to 5 (enough on this)and after the U.S. made a great comeback and the most overatted football nations in the world being humilated, after all this, JUST when you thought that it doesn’t get any better,…AT THIS EXACT MOMENT Associated Press goes on and gives us this (unintentional) comic statement of epic proportions from Anna’s personal manager: “Allen wants to come and help a team win a championship, which he’s completely capable of doing,” Gary Moore said. Come on SLAM, give us the story, make our day, one more year of the true KING and we are spending our time on loosy topics like kobe and NBA champions. Let’s get back to serious topics again, let’s talk shoe (and magazine) sales, let’s talk about ‘ANNA’ !!!!

He won’t ask for anything more then the veterans minimum, he wants 35 mpg because if Nash can be effective with that much athletics ability then Iverson for sure can. Iverson as a Knick is the best option playing the point for Bron and Bosh, whatever team LeBron goes to Iverson should go to he would have no problem being a 2nd or 3rd option if the 2 guys are actually better then him. Bench aint a option he would retire. Sixers I doubt(sad I wanted it to end in Philly).

  • http://www.slamonline.com Chris O’Leary

Thanks, Iverson, for making your career as awkward as the British version of The Office.

  • cp3fan

    @ Aaron
He’s hands down a Hall of Famer. If he doesn’t get in, there is something seriously wrong with the voters.

  • S_kemp

Being in the same draft class as
Kobe, he must be thinking about alot of missed opportunities and bad decisions, dont get me wrong I love the guy but its gotta hurt to see Kobe like this…

  • Russ M

I’d have to guess that he’ll probably spend more time training and preparing for this upcoming season then any other previous summer. It’ll be interesting to see what the results are.

  • Groves

Do the smart thing. sign for the minimum with miami, win a championship with wade, bosh, haslem, arroyo, beasley and then you can also rebuild your legacy by coming off the bench and being a supporter of the team concept

  • http://soulbanger.tumblr.com tapion786

@Aaron you’re on crack… he’s a sure fire first ballot hall of famer

  • robert stewart

That doesn’t sound/look like a championship team at all. More like a 2nd round exit. That team would lose to Orlando, Boston, and the Cavs if they keep Bron

  • rich

A.I. changed the game back in the day wilt and russel forced goaltending, earl the pearl mastered the spinoff, pistol pete made flashy plays, and A.i gave us the art of shakin dudes of the dribble. imagine D-will, cp3 and Dwade if Ai never touched a ball

  • Cool Dude

AI should team up with LBJ so they can both talk about practice.

@Aaron. that is perhaps the most ridiculous thing i have ever read..

  • Groves

@robert. Your forgetting that after bosh and AI are signed there would still be cap room for an excellent role player

  • Groves

@robert. they would still have more cap room and a first round draftee. they could become a great core

  • hoodsnake

Iverson? Working out? As in practice?????

  • http://www.euroleague.net/competition/all-decade/main-page/i/64902/4259/euroleague-all-decade-selection-theodoros-papaloukas?lang=en&itemid=64902&mid=4259&tabid=1143&itemname=EUROLEAGU PAPALOUKAS (click on my name)

@Aaron….:of course he is not. But that doesn’t mean he will not be elected.

  • http://Www.lkz.ch Darksaber

@Chris O’ Leary: i don’t expect North Americans to get british humour but the English version of The Office (which is the original btw, not that copy by Steve et al) with Ricky G. is, for lack of a a better word, DA SH*T. Too funny. As for A.I. Stop peddling Ipads on your Twitter!

  • pennydunk_1

He’s gonna sign with a contender to come off the bench, play some big games during the playoffs and get a ring. nothing bad with that

  • OneStep

    Dear Mr. Iverson,
Please enjoy your self-imposed retirement. Thankyou for your colourful contributions to the history of the NBA. The NBA has now moved on.
    Yours sincerely,
    Every sane NBA fan.

  • http://www.threadsandkicks.com.au Eduardo

I think he’s humbled now and knows that he’s not the player he once was. I think at this point in his career he wouldn’t mind coming off the bench particularly since it’s rumored that LA are looking to recruit Steve Blake, Earl Watson and Luke Ridnour. AI will be more than willing to change his game to win a championship as he’s in his twilight years of 35+.

I’d prefer if he was with the Cav’s though as I’d like to see someone else win for a change.

  • http://haymarket george

personally i think iverson has a lot of prove and knowing how hard working he could be the results are potentially good….his best fit at the moment looks like charlotte..a chance to play under brown sounds good but as a new jersey fan i think he should us a suitable suite but at the end of the day u cant count him out…we will see how good he is in 3 months

  • M

ALLEN IVERSON is a future Hall Of Famer, the most entertaining player to watch in the NBA, he’s small, yet so fearless, energetic, creative and he gives 100% in every game.Looking forward to his return!Philly needs him, but could do without Iggy controling the team and destroying the chemistry.

  • b

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just seeing him come back will be an ABSOLUTE dream come true!!! i didn’t watch the playoffs at all last season bc he wasn’t in it, didn’t care for basketball..i lost my passion for it bc this man wasn’t in it..but now, the spark is back on baby!!!!

  • BUGGN_413BK

  • rsamra

Allen is legend, but hes a lightweight and hes getting older. His best option is to go to Miami and play with Wade and the the dream team and coast to a championship. Whether he’s coming off the bench or starting, he needs to suck it up and do whatever it takes to win that ring. I can see Iverson being the fourth option in Miami, lets see Iverson go out with some class, Like Glen Rice.
