Chris Paul Open to Getting Traded

CP3 tells ESPN that he’d welcome a trade if the Hornets aren’t committed to winning a championship. Cue up the Cavs rumors again!: “With trade speculation swirling around him, Chris Paul said Wednesday that he’s open to a trade if the New Orleans Hornets aren’t committed to winning championships.
‘My first choice is to be in New Orleans,’ Paul said in a telephone interview from London. ‘I just want to make sure we’re committed to winning. If we’re not committed to winning and trying to get better so we can contend with the Lakers, the Celtics and all these other top teams, then I’m open to being traded.’ Reports that clubs have been making offers for Paul surfaced earlier this week. Hornets general manager Jeff Bower denied that the club was shopping its three-time All-Star point guard, but admitted to having dialogue with other teams concerning ‘all of our players.’ New Hornets coach Monty Williams said he expects Paul to remain in New Orleans. But around the league, speculation remains that the Hornets may move Paul. With owner George Shinn’s proposed sale to Gary Chouest being delayed for financial reasons, opposing executives believe New Orleans may have to trade Paul and the $50 million owed to him over the next three seasons.”

First. It would be interesting to see him with another superstar, I don’t think any team will be willing to make the kind of deal that the Hornets would want. I think you will have to give them a really good, maybe not great player, and a couple first round picks. I don’t think any team in the league will do that.

    get him cavs.

  • LA Huey

Yes! Get him out of there. Outside some ridiculously fortunate draft pick, New Orleans would be lucky to reach the 2nd round again. Paul is too good a player and too fun to watch for him not to be on a perinnial contender.

who would the cavs give up to get cp3?? i dont understand it.

  • larrylegend

    trade him for shaq!

  • underdog

I don’t see why the Hornets want to trade him. I mean it’s really difficult to get anything better than CP3.

  • LD

I like how differently Chris Paul and Kobe are treated when they ask for trades.

  • LD

I take that back. I just noticed Jordan Farmar wants out of LA. Make this trade for CP3 happen! LOL

  • T-Money

LD: touché. When Jax wants to get traded he’s a greedy mofo who should be lucky to make millions to play a game (like NBA players aren’t the REASON why the league makes millions in the first players). When it’s Kobe and CP3, well, they’re just competitors. Don’t get me wrong, I side with the players on this. Just saying, there’s more lee-way when you’re a “good” guy.

Jordan Farmar wants out of L.A. seriously? Why??

Nevermind, I just read the Farmar post, so I’ll discontinue this little conversation with myself. :)

  • kobesBESTfriend

who wants this injury prone loser…especially when his back up is just as good as him…ship his as$ out asap for a shooting guard or center

  • Double J

kobesBESTfriend you are now my bestfriend, saying it like it is. CP3 has had some moments, but damn New Orleans wasn’t effected at all when he got hurt.

  • LA Huey

To you kids talking ish about Paul’s impact: Hornets are sub-.500 w/o him (14-23) and, while not good enough to make the playoffs in the West, they’re better with him (23-22) in uniform.

Yall musta forgot bout CP3 after all these pg’s put their names up during the playoffs (Derrick rose, deron ,and rondo).

  • kobesBESTfriend

he’s 1 more injury away from being the next Gilbert Arenas

  • b

He’s not demanding a trade and not crying about it like kobe did… He just said he would be open to it and how quick people forget about this guy jus because he was hurt with a sorry team in a super competitive western conference.

With the ownership situation, this seems likely

I think Darren Collisons play would make it easier to part with him if they can get something in return. That kid proved over a pretty long stretch, with pretty big shoes to fill, that he is a starting PG in this league. He’s only going to get better.

  • don

cp3 must be hating darren collison now.

  • penny

should have seen it coming when they drafted darren collison

  • Noel

Cosign jaco; seems like a lot of people have forgotten cp3 is THE best pg in the league (apologies to DWill)

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

JACO they just mention the cavs because its been going on for a couple of years now that it seems that the cavs are interested in every superstar linked to being traded. lol.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

collison may be great but he’s no equal to cp3.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Im calling it, hes going to orlando. New dynasty

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

^nope. Ofcourse its the cavs. LOL

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

local news here (Portland) has Aldridge and 22nd pick possibly headed to N.O. for Paul.. Hope it happens…

  • L

They are not to be winning in the next couple of years with this group. They should trade CP3 for a couple of first round picks and on good player and give the PG duties to Collison. L

  • JoeMaMa

No one expected Collison (or thornton, for that matter) to be as good as he was. He was drafted to play spot minutes behind CP3, a big minutes guy. That was, in my opinion, dumb luck. Be that as it may, now they have a young, cheap (key word here) backcourt, a good PF in West, but no wing to speak of. I think that if they can get a top wing for CP3, they’ll do it and be a year away from a 4, 5, or 6 seed.
It’s really not about the talent; CP3 is the second best PG next to DWill. It’s about money with ownership.

    Free CP3… :D
