Is Worldwide Wes Pitching a Chris Paul Trade?

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

Chris Paul is recovering slowly from injuries, but his name continues to swirl in trade rumors.

And like everything else this summer, it somehow all centers around LeBron James.

According to Yahoo!, William Wesley — the NBA’s ultimate power broker — is telling teams that the way to LeBron’s free agent heart, is through CP3:

As the July 1 start of free agency pushes closer, powerbroker William Wesley has been working multiple angles to NBA front offices about possible trades and signings. Here’s his latest: World Wide Wes has been pitching teams with salary-cap space that trading for New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul will dramatically increase their chances of signing LeBron James, multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports.

New Orleans general manager Jeff Bower has no intention of trading Paul, but multiple league executives believe that until owner George Shinn closes on the team’s sale with billionaire oilman Gary Chouest, there is a price with which Paul could be pried away.

“He can be had with Shinn in there, but once the new guy takes over, he’s off the market,” one senior front-office executive told Y! Sports. Can Wesley deliver Paul? Extremely doubtful, but that hasn’t stopped his sales pitch to teams, league sources said. First of all, Paul hasn’t requested a trade out of New Orleans, so the franchise isn’t under pressure to move him. He has two years and $31.3 million left on his contract until he can opt out before the 2012-13 season.

As the report points out, trading Chris Paul isn’t likely to happen, and would be even harder to explain to the fan base in New Orleans. And the front-office continues to insist that Paul isn’t a movable asset.

The rumor may not have much legs to it, but Chris Paul and LeBron James’ close friendship will continue to stroke the fire of what is sure to be a wild summer.

If Byron Scott becomes the Laker coach. will CP3 follow him?

ok, LBJ will not go to the nets because that will really jack up his career, the Knicks do have some nice pieces like Derek Lee and a few other decent players, what the Knicks need to do since they are one of the few teams that can do this is lure D-wade away from Miami and get LBJ as well, or Joe Johnson, if 2 of those three go to NY, then they are instantly a playoff team

It’s funny that a guy like Wes who doesn’t even work for a team is the most powerful man in basketball. Sorry to say something about that *other* magazine, but there are numerous examples of his power in ESPN the Mag.

Every1 here is failin 2 realize that the hornets CAN’T get lbj because their BROKE. That’s why dumping CP3 makes sense. They do not have money.

Worldwide Wes obviously has some pull, just watched ESPN, Sportscenter feature on him. He sounds arrogant, saying if you want Lebron talk to me. Why can’t Lebron just talk for himself. I believe Lebron will mess this process up and alienate some of his so called friends. Dwade wants his crown and I feel Dwade feels disrepected always having to talk about Lebron in free agency. Dwade will have a better career than Lebron and then Lebron can LeCry on this LeWes lap and LeLose year after year, and have LeQuitta apologizes say year after year he is best in league but team is crap. But didn’t Lebron get to the 2007 Finals with a sorry team, so the teams that won back 2 back 60 wins better than his 2007 team YES!! Who cares Paul cannot play with James, because Paul has Zeke tendencies and would get mad with Lebron quick once he quits or can’t hit a jumpshot. BOOK IT!!!

BS, LBJ with a ball demanding point guard, great idea!!! i think, LBJ is at best when HE plays Point guard/forward. mhn, but playing with a wack pg didn’t work out, so maybe try this….or establish team #31, Le LeBrons, i don’t know, or try to learn to take just 2 steps, or…man, bring the 80ies/90ies back!!!

  • dsleepy

yomamma…you are high if you think that trade will go through.
