Is Worldwide Wes Pitching a Chris Paul Trade?

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

Chris Paul is recovering slowly from injuries, but his name continues to swirl in trade rumors.

And like everything else this summer, it somehow all centers around LeBron James.

According to Yahoo!, William Wesley — the NBA’s ultimate power broker — is telling teams that the way to LeBron’s free agent heart, is through CP3:

As the July 1 start of free agency pushes closer, powerbroker William Wesley has been working multiple angles to NBA front offices about possible trades and signings. Here’s his latest: World Wide Wes has been pitching teams with salary-cap space that trading for New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul will dramatically increase their chances of signing LeBron James, multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports.

New Orleans general manager Jeff Bower has no intention of trading Paul, but multiple league executives believe that until owner George Shinn closes on the team’s sale with billionaire oilman Gary Chouest, there is a price with which Paul could be pried away.

“He can be had with Shinn in there, but once the new guy takes over, he’s off the market,” one senior front-office executive told Y! Sports. Can Wesley deliver Paul? Extremely doubtful, but that hasn’t stopped his sales pitch to teams, league sources said. First of all, Paul hasn’t requested a trade out of New Orleans, so the franchise isn’t under pressure to move him. He has two years and $31.3 million left on his contract until he can opt out before the 2012-13 season.

As the report points out, trading Chris Paul isn’t likely to happen, and would be even harder to explain to the fan base in New Orleans. And the front-office continues to insist that Paul isn’t a movable asset.

The rumor may not have much legs to it, but Chris Paul and LeBron James’ close friendship will continue to stroke the fire of what is sure to be a wild summer.

Worldwide Wes seems like the King Cobra of snakes. Do AAU coaches and street agents suckle at his teat?

    too many playmakers

  • YoMomma

Cp3 is going to the Blazers for Rudy Fernandez, Martell Webster, Dante Cunningham and some money. They will be the best backcourt in the NBA (B Roy & CP3).

IF having CP3 means you get a big chance to land LeBron, then why are we not hearing about the Hornets doing something with the huge expiring contracts to get LeBron?

  • Clay

Wes can’t pitch anything. He can make up rumors, just like anyone on this website can.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/category/blogs/farmer-jones/ Ryan Jones

If LeBron could pick a teammate, Chris would almost certainly be the one. These guys are tight.

  • Mcfly

Is anybody else tired of hearing of this Wes guys? They make him sound like a basketball god.

  • dino

What if the Cavs tradte for both CP3 and Bosh now thats a team!

  • jumpman3224

    1. Does anyone really believe that LBJ is willing to play off of the ball, run off of screens and post-up for 82 – 100 games? That’s what he would have to do if paired with CP3 (or Rose, Wade, etc.).
    2. If I’m the Hornets, I’m looking to move him or Collison. Since they are both starting caliber 1′s, they should try to get another player who would start (2 or 5) in a different spot in return.

  • AT33

The only way you will see LeBron wear the same uniform as Chris Paul is if he wears a Hornets jersey (or a Team USA hehe) And I highly doubt LeBron will sign with New Orleans as a free agent even if they could make room for him. It’s what they call it at the GM level “wishful thinking” to sign LeBron and CP3 on the same team, you don’t need a self proclaimed “Worldwide” Wes to tell you that. A team can only get CP3 if they have a CP3 caliber player that means a first team ALL-NBA to trade for, and we all know very well the 5 ALL-NBA first team players so nah this is all baloney.

LeBron has a really hard decision to make because one he should play in NY, the biggest and most important city in North America but the Knicks are in such bad shape that going there might jack up his career, he really would need CP3 there if he decides to go. The Nets I think are in better shape, they will be in NY soon, they got a good coach and a rich owner, they got Lopez there who could very well be a top center next year, room for Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire and with LeBron in the equation could make them a championchip team.
I think he has no other choice but the Nets really, unless the Knicks can get dramatically better and maybe somehow land a top point guard and either Chris Bosh or Stoudemire there is no way he’ll go there.

CP3 paired wit LBJ? That’s like putting drake and lil wayne on a track together…..perfect! Match made in heavan!

I’m sick of hearing about Wes. It seems there are more rumors of his power than actual examples.

    Who is Wes?

  • AL29

I can’t see LBJ playing with another playmaker… but I’m excited about seeing CP3 being liberated from the Hornets. Injuries and playing for a generally bad team have kept this guy out of the spotlight, but in 2008, he was almost MVP.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

co-sign LeoneL. I was thinking the same thing. If Lebron wants to play with CP3 why not just go to him.

  • Omar

AL29, in 2008, he was MVP, he just didn’t get the award.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Man, Yahoo is killing it with these rumours.

  • Kap

Lebron will have a chance to be on same team with Bosh, Wade, Joe Johnson, and Paul in the all-star game or the next Olympics. Sick of hearing bout he wants to play wit this guy one week and another guy the next week.

  • T-Money

Kap: notice how 99.9% of articles about LeBron never have a quote from the man himself?

  • JoeMaMa

Lang, you’re deep the game and likely know him, but in case you’re not speaking in sarcastic undertones, this should help:

Would hurt to see CP3 leave, that dude did a lot for the Hornets; Damn i cant WAIT til’ next season….or better yet, July 1st

    GO BULLSSSSSS

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

Co-sign Myles. and about cp3, man, if i were the hornets, i wouldnt trade paul, unless its lebron or wade in return. Collison is no CP3!

  • http://gmail dirty frank

Lebron’s guards need to be spot up 3 point shooters above all else and, as some of you mentioned, will be playing off the ball most of the time.

  • smooth operator

    trade paul to the cavs

  • http://www.twitter.com/dfrance21 dfrance

Why wouldn’t lebron try playing off the ball a little more. Lebron as primary playmaker has gotten him where again?

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

DJ + Henderson + Tyrus + 2 future 1st round picks for CP3? He’d get to play back in his home state and with Tyson again. DO IT MJ!

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

I like the idea of LBJ and CP3 on the same team, I just don’t see it happening. I’m sure the Cavs would love to have CP3 and try to work out a deal where they give up Mo and Andy or JJ. Mo would make a nice back-up for Collison and Telfair would be a nice back-up to CP3. But the hornets would need Andy or JJ added to the deal to even begin to consider it seriously. Obviously the Cavs would be paying even more luxury tax – but it would be worth it for them to keep LBJ. All of this is fantasy & speculation I know, but a CP3/LBJ combo is appealing to me, more than LBJ/Rose or LBJ/Wade.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

I’m with Myles Brown on this one. Allegedly he doesn’t work for a team or even specific players, so what kind of power does he really have? What we know, as fans, is really shady.

  • http://dsfrjklfl.com JukaI

Doesn’t seem like he’s doing anything too shady over here. From what I’ve read, the only shady sh*t he does is convince newer players to use his friends as agents, and not some other guys, and uses his friendship with high-level NBA players as backing. Boohoo. That’s wimpy stuff compared to what some NCAA teams do.

  • http://www.shawnkemp.com JACO

    i can’t see it happen

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

Chris Paul is the centerpiece for the Hornet’s franchise, he’s not going anywhere. If Lebron wants to play with him, he should stop thinking about money and take less cash to play with him.

  • T-Money

Great players and I mean TRULY great players can always find a way to worrk with each other.

  • http://dsfrjklfl.com JukaI

T-Money: You forgot to add “… for three years”

  • Clay

LeBron would be better off with a great coach than a great second option. He would benefit from learning all the aspects of how an offense should be ran. It would be good for him to play off the ball like a Chris Paul would allow him to do, but he needs the coach to incorporate the system to do so.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Darren Collison did everything CP3 did while he was out. So CP3 is tradeable for the right deal. Also DWade is the real pick of this free agent list. If Dwade can get Amare or Bosh. Lebron who. Wade will dominate the league in the east. And Wade has had the better career so far to me than Lebron. Like the dudes on ESPN said, to much hype for Lebron, not enough substance. THANY YOU ESPN!!!

  • http://kb24.com DreXnaW21

LeBron and CP3 should go to Lakers to make a 3 peat.

  • baldy

world wide should get a real life, what does this guy do? he is a “street agent’ who sucks up to guys like lebron and USES THEM !another name for him is the term “FLESH PEDDLER” HE IS AS SLEAZY AS THE DAY IS LONG.

  • http://stilesy23@aol.com Stilesy23

World Wide Wes, Lebron, Illuminati…..CP3 will go where he is told to go!
Its all rigged, they will all eventually end up with Jordan in Charlotte repackaged as the BronCats and MJ will go for 7.

  • thisgirlsballin

no way this will happen .

  • cc413

you guys are retarded lebron n cp3 will never play on the same team.. each player controls the ball 85% of their teams possessions so there is no way these two would even consider playing.. same situation wit dwyane wade it will not work.. neither player is willing to give up their statistical glory.. the best big name free agent fit to play with bron is chris bosh who does not require complete ball control to be extremely efficent.. bron will likey go where he can play with bosh

  • http://stilesy23@aol.com Stilesy23

Yeah Jaco, you tingling baby.. LeMom James, Bricky Rubio, RuPaul(Snoop Doggy Bosh), D Wade and Money gonna be starting.. the Beatles, Kris Kross and Ryan Seacrest ridin pine for the 2011 finals matchup with the Jackson 5(Lakers)….word is bond, ratings will go through the roof and Tim Donaghy will control the zebras…get ready for the russian revolution in Jersey too with the New Jersey Niets..they shootin…..

If Byron Scott becomes the Laker coach. will CP3 follow him?

  • nathan

ok, LBJ will not go to the nets because that will really jack up his career, the Knicks do have some nice pieces like Derek Lee and a few other decent players, what the Knicks need to do since they are one of the few teams that can do this is lure D-wade away from Miami and get LBJ as well, or Joe Johnson, if 2 of those three go to NY, then they are instantly a playoff team

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Silly rabbits, Maestro Fresh Wes isn’t a basketball guy, he’s a RAPPER.

  • Exiled Zebra

Nathan, who is derek lee? Philosopher is a lebron nuts camper

  • http://www.yougotdunkedon.com LilKDub503

It’s funny that a guy like Wes who doesn’t even work for a team is the most powerful man in basketball. Sorry to say something about that *other* magazine, but there are numerous examples of his power in ESPN the Mag.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

co-sign clay about the coach, but still he needs that real superstar with him. And i agree who’s this world wide who? does this guy make you a champ?

  • turk

Every1 here is failin 2 realize that the hornets CAN’T get lbj because their BROKE. That’s why dumping CP3 makes sense. They do not have money.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Worldwide Wes obviously has some pull, just watched ESPN, Sportscenter feature on him. He sounds arrogant, saying if you want Lebron talk to me. Why can’t Lebron just talk for himself. I believe Lebron will mess this process up and alienate some of his so called friends. Dwade wants his crown and I feel Dwade feels disrepected always having to talk about Lebron in free agency. Dwade will have a better career than Lebron and then Lebron can LeCry on this LeWes lap and LeLose year after year, and have LeQuitta apologizes say year after year he is best in league but team is crap. But didn’t Lebron get to the 2007 Finals with a sorry team, so the teams that won back 2 back 60 wins better than his 2007 team YES!! Who cares Paul cannot play with James, because Paul has Zeke tendencies and would get mad with Lebron quick once he quits or can’t hit a jumpshot. BOOK IT!!!

  • larrylegend

BS, LBJ with a ball demanding point guard, great idea!!! i think, LBJ is at best when HE plays Point guard/forward. mhn, but playing with a wack pg didn’t work out, so maybe try this….or establish team #31, Le LeBrons, i don’t know, or try to learn to take just 2 steps, or…man, bring the 80ies/90ies back!!!

  • dsleepy

yomamma…you are high if you think that trade will go through.
