John Wall Expects to Be an Elite PG Within a Year

The top pick in this year’s Draft certainly does not lack for self-confidence, reports the Washington Post: “Wall understands that with the hype comes considerable expectations, but he is looking forward to the challenge. ‘My biggest concern? Going there and being a bum,’ Wall said. ‘You don’t want to be a draft pick that should have did something but never did nothing. For me, it’s about working hard and getting better. I got the will to win. I’ve got good character. I’m a winner off the court. I’ll do anything I can for the team and in the community.’ … Wall was asked where he already ranks among the elite point guards in the league. ‘Right now, I wouldn’t put myself in no top because I haven’t established myself on that level. I feel like I have a chance to be one of those top 10, top three guys,’ he said. ‘Until I prove myself on the NBA level, I can’t put myself in no category.’ How soon does he expect that to happen? ‘A year,’ Wall said. ‘It’s going to have to take a lot of hard work, dedication and study how teams are going to play you. Basically working on my game.”‘

Cool…he’s the type of pg that the NBA loves. Big, long, athletic of the Rajon Rondo/Derrick Rose type. I hope he does well and makes the NBA more exciting than it is already.

  • deano

work on that jumper and learn the half-court offense and nothing is stopping this kid

  • jay

hmmmm but can he slam dunk?

I like how he fears becoming a draft bust.Their last number one pick,Kwame seemed as if he wanted to be a bum

  • kudos

Always been a winner?? I don’t think so. That’s what loser’s tell themselves to feel better. *LEBRON*

  • Kendrick is God

hes a Reke/Rondo/Rose hybrid, no way he won’t be elite

Can John Wall slam dunk? That is a silly question. And Wall has always been a winner. He only lost 1 game his high school career and 3 in college. That’s a winner in my book.

He had a great supporting cast in college that took a lot of pressure off of him. He has the potential to be elite but he’ll have to do it with teams really focusing on him and without a great supporting cast. That’s a very different and difficult situation to come into your first year. Rondo had some time to develop somewhat under the radar, D. Rose didn’t have quite as much attention his rookie year either. I don’t think he’ll be ‘elite’ year one, but we’ll see. I hope that’s confidence he has and not cockiness.

@kudos – haterade tastes good huh? john wall willmake a big splash in the NBA. he’s an allen iverson that knows how to pass, or an LBJ without the big body though.

@jay – can he slam dunk? hahahaha! well if you watching the NBA for slams then better switch on watching slam ball. but seriously, he got mad hops… not only would he slam one in your favorite player’s grill, he’d posterize ‘em and have them as a free poster for slam magazine!

JOHN WALL is definitely a winner!

It’s hilarious that no one caught jay’s sarcasm questioning whether John Wall can dunk or not.

john wall will have a strong rookie season.. i see him having a brandon jennings season with the consistancy of derrick rose.. and like rose if he can develop into a 3 point shooter he will very hard to guard.. he will have to carry his leadership skills over to the nba as the wizards will be a team on the rise with many new faces from last year.. he should blend well with hinrich (who is used to this role by now) arenas, josh howard, blathe and co.. i expect him to average around 16 n 6 much like derrick rose

  • cc413

derrick roses rookie season i mean

He will be like rose rondo reke deron kidd baron nash paul curry billups westbrook felton calderon. Is that enough? Since all we do is throw out names and say he will be just like this, jebus

Also, this is the biggest non story ever. He expects himself to do well? O snap! We need to do a broadcast message and interrupt every show like its a presidential address, BIG FU(KING NEWS!!! Now, a story would be a freshly drafted player saying something like this “i know they took me with a high draft pick but I dont care, im not gonna work hard. I plan to loaf around and give 30, maybe 40 % effort. Im gettin paid, thats all I care about. That, and bangin as many broads as possible in all 30 cities. I have no respect for the game, coaches, the team, or the league, eff em all, I do me” now, THAT would be a story.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

And the above player would conclude the statement with, “also, now that im paid, I will concentrate mostly on building my own rap label, featuring me, I will release an album a year, and they will all debut no 1 and go quadruple platinum, because I spit hot fiya”

@JW11: John Wall lost a LOT more games than 1 in just his senior season. Stop d**k riding, even with your name. In fact, Wall won exactly 0 state titles, and didn’t go to the Final Four in college. Even though this all sounds like hate, let’s not forget how ill he is.
