Martell Webster Traded to Minnesota

The Blazers were busy last night, firing their GM, and unloading Martell Webster off to the Wolves. The Oregonian fills us in: “The Trail Blazers have traded Martell Webster to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Ryan Gomes and the draft rights to Luke Babbitt, a source told the The Oregonian. In Babbitt, a sophomore from Nevada, the Blazers will fulfill their stated desire to add perimeter shooting. Babbitt averaged 21.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game last season and shot 50 percent from the field — including 41.6 percent from three-point range. The 6-foot-9 small forward, who has a 6-11 wingspan, also shot 91.7 percent from the free-throw line, which ranked third in the NCAA … The trade ends Webster’s five-year run with the Blazers, who drafted him No. 6 overall in the 2005 draft. The small forward, who batted inconsistency throughout his career, averaged 9.4 points and 3.3 rebounds last season.”

i think the starting lineup of Flynn, Webster, Johnson, Love, Jefferson (or Z-Bo) could be fun to watch.

Ugh… we got Gomes and Babbit I’m so mad

    Ryan Gomes > Martell Webster

wow blazers just downgraded their SF position. and for minnesota, corey brewer > martell webster, so they just got a bench player. i guess it makes sense since it helps with their scoring.

If Martell Webster can stay healthy he’s pretty good. He can shoot and he’s athletic.

I feel like this is a steal for Portland. Luke Babbit is a spectacular player and Ryan Gomes played better than Webster last season. I’d be happy if I was a Portland fan.

Definitely a steal for Portland, just as Memphis got a steal with OJ Mayo. And just as Portland got a steal with Brandon Roy. And just as Denver got a steal in Ty Lawson…Minni has made some pretty dumb trades during draft days…

david kahn sucks hard on draft day. i’m just waiting for them to resign all their players to max contracts next summer.

Webster plays the two more than the three. And they can start Flynn/Sessions, Webster/Johnson, Brewer, Love and Jefferson.

i imagine the starting line up will be flynn, webster, johnson, love, and jefferson that is if they decide to move jeff to the 5.. the timberwolves have always craved a tall line up for some odd reason n look to be building their way to it.. good trade on portlands part.. getting rid of a non valuable to player to get one who fits nicely in the system as babbit does

@JL : we might have downgraded our SF BENCH position cause our starter is NIC BATUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!who we Blazers fans love and managemet also (they refused pick 4 for him apparently)

Great move for the Wolves. Webster is an incredible shooter, and his athleticism is pretty underrated. He definitely has huge upside; the only impediment to his development was that he was playing back-up to Brandon Roy.

    pritch slapped

    soooooo hard

webster has spent the last 6(?) seasons proving he is no better than babbit or gomes.

wolves came in with 5 picks (3) in 1st round n came away wit 3 23 year old sfs. kahn has to go.

  • Lazarus

btw kahn got absolutely hammer fisted by a guy that had been fired iono.

also the best player next year is a sf. which wolves will be in the hunt for.

    wolves r a joke!

I think David Kahn pulls out a roulette wheel every summer with all the positions labeled on it. Then, whatever position he hits, he drafts or trades for only that position…
