Ray Allen’s Last Games as a Celtic?

There are reports coming out of Boston that Ray Allen’s time in Boston may be coming to an end. According to the New York Daily News:

The latest buzz has Ray Allen looking to bolt the Celtics when he becomes free on July 1 to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami…

Sources close to the Celtics’ veteran shooting guard say that he’s not exactly thrilled that Rajon Rondo is playing a more prominent role in the offense, and is looking at Miami as a potential destination. Bosh has long been rumored to be leaving Toronto to go to the Heat, which intends to re-sign Wade and has enough cap space to land Bosh with a maximum-salary deal.

From the Celtics’ standpoint, they’d like to keep Allen, although he’s looked every bit his age (he’ll be 35 in July) during the Finals. When asked about Boston’s “window of opportunity” closing for good in this title run, Rivers said, “I don’t think it is. I think Kevin (Garnett) is going to be better next year, a year away from surgery. Hopefully, we sign Ray back – I think I can say that. If not, I just got fined.”

Allen has struggled mightily since his record breaking performance in Game 2, but if he breaks out of his funk in time to secure another title for the Celtic faithful, it will be hard to imagine him in another uniform next season.

This doesn’t make a lot of sense.

First, Hope he stays, and the Celtics keep adding more pieces to stay competive next year..

This is bullsh*t. “He’s not exactly thrilled that Rajon Rondo is playing a more prominent role in the offense”? They wouldn’t be in the Finals without a selfless mentality. Ray isn’t a guy who gets his feathers ruffled over his personal stats. As usual the media is cooking stuff up. It’s disgusting.

If Ray leaves, Tracy McGrady would be a solid option.

“looking to bolt”? everything else I’ve heard has said that he’d love to stay in Boston. so confusing. guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Jun.13 at 4:56 pm
I can not imagine that Ray Allen would be angry with Rajon Rondo’s role within the team. Maybe I’m naive, but can’t imagine it happening.

  • letsmotor Posted: Jun.13 at 5:11 pm
I’m with Gerard. all of a sudden, Ray’s a me first player? They’re probably just talking about that game where Ray was telling Rondo to get him some more shots. All Ray was doing then was making a point about ball movement, which was that if Ray’s getting shots, that means they’re moving the ball well. It was never anything personal or ego-related, but of course the media had to blow it out of proportion. I’d be shocked if he really wanted to leave, and I’m hesitant to believe a New York paper over the Boston newspapers that say he wants to stay, and have actual quotes of him saying as much.

Go to Miami and Join Wade and Bosh? thats kinda being too specific aint it? doesnt seem believable. and ray ray aint even a selfish type like letsmotor said.

I agree with Gerard, I don’t think anybody on that team is a prima-donna, they all want to win. Now when it comes to whether he stays or leaves, it will probably all depend upon if they win this title. If they lose, I say he goes to Miami. But since I think they gonna pull it out, I say he finishes his career in Boston. But we will wait and see.

the series is tied 2/2.. why would it be his last game as a celtic? Will he join the heat before game 6?

  • BossTerry Posted: Jun.13 at 7:35 pm
oops, I mis read.. it says- last gameS, not game. My bad, He got game. =)

  • [...] Hopefully you’ve already read Ben’s little Game 5 preview. So, what am I expecting from tonight’s crucial game 5? A hell of an effing game, for one thing. The fans are riled up already and will only get louder, fueled by a day off from work that surely allowed for pregaming and the fact that this is their last chance to see their beloved Celtics in person this season (save for a parade, they hope). I presume they may save the loudest cheers for Ray Allen, the game 2 savior who may be playing his last game in the green and white. [...]

I wonder if an LA writer penned this?? Attempt to disrupt the harmony… It wouldn’t work, but just a thought.

  • flash Posted: Jun.13 at 11:37 pm
we wouldn’t want him in Miami anyway. he’s too old for a team that’s rebuilding

  • jaywalker Posted: Jun.14 at 1:32 am
another media created controversy..with the way celtics have been playing i dont think anybody is complaining about no. of minutes..like it says on the tees they sell WE not me…!! Go Celtics..One more win!!!

Wouldn’t make sense for him to leave. Besides, aside from his offensive outburt in game 2 and his night off on offense in game 3, Ray’s been a solid 12 ppg for the Finals and he’s played Kobe Bryant about as well as anybody can. Kind of funny how Paul Pierce’s offensive struggles against Cleveland get excused because he was guarding Lebron but when Ray Allen is guarding Kobe and not averaging over 20ppg then it’s him being non-existent in the Finals.

What about all the stories over the past 3 years that Ray and Rondo were good friends, that Ray had taken Rondo under his wing since day one, that Rondo had picked up a bunch of Ray’s compulsive training habits? Illogical. Why would Ray mentor Rondo for the past 3 years and now, at the culmination of all that effort, suddenly be unhappy about Rondo’s expanding role? If Ray Allen was being me-first about things he would still be dropping 25 a night on an under-the-radar team as an aging lone gunner.

Clearly this is bullsh!t, and I’m not the only one who smells it. D@mn, this bull’s sh!t stinks! Like that pun? It was almost as bad as that idiotic story I just read. Yeah, f*ck off NY Daily News.

    FIRST…

  • riggs Posted: Jun.14 at 8:28 am
um this is BS since ray is rondo’s mentor…

  • diego Posted: Jun.14 at 8:33 am
    What is this????
“they’d like to keep Allen, although he’s looked every bit his age” The media has to create new stars and kill the old ones, hes isn showing no sign of age. he still being athletic remember the dunk over howard. still being the best shooter in the league

    another pathetic media attempt
