Shannon Brown Opting Out of Contract

Brown’s agent tells the LA Times that his client is in search of a new deal: “The 6-4 reserve guard will opt out of the final year of his two-year, $4.139-million contract by the June 30 deadline, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Sunday. ‘My guess is he’s probably going to become a free agent,’ Bartelstein said. Brown signed the two-year, ‘biannual exception’ last year with the Lakers. He made $1.990 million last season and was due to make $2.149 million next season. The Lakers own his ‘early bird’ rights and could sign him for up to five years and as high as the mid-level exception; the current mid-level exception pays $5.8 million in the first year.”

    what does this mean…? He opted out of actually putting any dunks up in the dunk comp last year. A scrub who won’t contribute to any other team in any worthwhile fashion….he has a worse attitude than farmar.

    First Jordan Farmar now Shannon Brown… Lakers better start looking for some back-up pieces… shouldn’t be a problem for them, who wouldn’t want the most reasonable chance at winning a ring…

    King’s to Anton. And the key word in this article is ‘could’ as in LA ‘could’ offer him $5.8 mil. Another key word, though missing, is ‘won’t’.

    He might not even be expecting significantly more money than he’s making now, but just wants to opt out so he can sign a long-term contract. I’d give him 2.5 or maybe even 3 a year for 3-4 years.

    S. Brown has a bad attitude… Really???? You must have S.B. mistaken for Farmar. You’re probably a band wagon Laker fan anyway, you don’t no any better. It’s gonna be hard, but peace S.B. Farmar… You’ll always be a career backup. This addition by subtraction: minus S. Brown, Famar, Morrision, Congo Cash, & J.P. Plus: Steve Blake, T-Mac, Raja Bell, & an experienced big man. We can get all this guys for half of the mid-level contacts.

    Shannon Brown is dunk highlight film, except in the actual NBA Slam contest. He is a serviceable backup guard, but I would take Nate Robinson as a backup over Brown. There is nothing wrong with testing the market, NBA careers are short…

    Shannon = momentum any team would love to have this guy. I could see him fitting in well with an athletic squad like the Hawks. Hey man, he’s looking out for him…in the end thats what matters

    Shannon has bounced around the league, but he’s improved considerably during his stay in LA. He’s got a reliable jumpshot now, and I’m sure he’d be able to prove himself a capable ball-handler in the right situation. A team like Atlanta, who looks to be shipping out Joe Johnson, could use an athletic boost at the 2 guard off the bench.

    There’s no way T-Mac is going to the Lakers,he has a strong dislike for Kobe.It’s the same thing with Raja Bell too.Also,just because Shannon Brown opted out of the last year of his contract it doesn’t mean that he is leaving L.A. He just wants a new contract.If he thinks there is a chance he can squeeze a million or two more out of the Lakers there is no point in taking less money.At the least he just signs a longer contract worth the same amount of money.Oh and Hambone,last I heard Miner was in Orlando.

    I heard Ron Artest is convincing T-Mac to come to the Lakers, I have a feeling T-Mac is going to replace Shannon Brown like Ron Artest replaced Trevor Ariza, my predicted Laker’s roster next year:

    i don’t get this Luke Ridnour Laker crush. The Lakers don’t need a traditional point guard. They need a guy who can feed the post, shoot the 3, and most of all, PLAY DEFENSE. Ridnour will not be out-rebounding any guards in the West f outta here with that nonsense. that’s a bad move up and down.

    They might keep caracter because of his big body and he will be cheap on the contract.I am not sure about Tmac, but raja bell may be a fit because of defense.

    I read all of the negative comments on Farmar and Brown, guys its business, and w/the collective bargin
    contract up, the players have to try and get as much as they can, did you see how Lamar had to take a major pay cut, and ONCE YOU GOT 2 RINGS TRY AND MAX. YOUR MONEY, and se if you can land a starters role, INDY, needs a point guard and I dont see farmar or brown being mentioned as 1 of their targets, so IF I were them, I would do the same. its business.

    dude got some bad advice. if the lake show wants to win 3 more in a row, they need to trade for hinrich at pg and bosh at pf. if the raptors are still dumb enough to want bynum they could do a sign and trade and get it done fairly easily.

    Kadavour – have you WATCHED any Luke Ridnour games the last 2 years? Since he’s been with Skiles as coach, he’s become a solid/good defender. He was already a good ball handler, all around shooter. And if a PG can’t feed the post in HS or NCAA, they get found out pretty quick.
    He’d be a good fit.
