Technical Foul Trouble Mounting for Celtics

Both ‘Sheed and Kendrick Perkins need to keep their mouths shut and emotions under control if they expect to play the rest of the NBA Finals. From the Globe: “Rasheed Wallace now finds himself in the same danger zone as Kendrick Perkins. Wallace was one of the catalysts in the fourth-quarter charge that helped the Celtics tie the NBA Finals at 2-2 with a 96-89 win over the Lakers  last night, but he walked away from the win with his sixth technical foul of the playoffs, leaving him one shy of an automatic one-game suspension. He picked up the technical with 7:25 to go in the fourth, exaggeratedly shocked at being called for a foul on Kobe Bryant under the basket. There have been times in the Finals when Wallace was so shocked by calls that his face lit up in equal parts surprise and outrage, high-stepping and dancing away from both the play and the officials. After being called for the foul on Bryant by Scott Foster, Wallace did the same dance from the basket almost to halfcourt, but this time the officials had apparently had enough, leading to the technical. The Celtics came into the series having to deal with Perkins on the technical foul bubble after having one technical from the Eastern Conference finals against Orlando rescinded. Now, they’ll have another one of their big men walking on eggshells. ‘I hope they rescind that one because I thought he did a dance but he ran away,’ said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. ‘I didn’t think he said anything. The dance was funny, and so I could see it, but I don’t know. I just wish they hadn’t given it to him. It is a concern.’”

I thought it was way too over the top. There’s a time and place for contesting calls, but Sheed made it into a gong show. Try to show a bit of restraint and maturity while you play for the NBA championship.

Rasheed has LONG annoyed the hell out of me with his way over-exaggerated reactions to foul calls. He’s like what, 35? And he still reacts like a 13-year old girl who’s just been ordered by her parents to give up her cell phone for a week whenever he gets a foul called on him.

I like how the NBA is slow about suspending players NOW. Where was this attitude in 2007 when they suspended Amare and Boris.

  • Sparker

yeah, but if you saw the replay, he DIDN’T FOUL ANYONE on three of the damn calls (the three that he danced to). the refs are biting the weenie in this series, big time

could spell trouble for the c’s, but I think they’ll be OK. perk’s been on his best behavior, and all they have to do is go games 5 and 6 without a tech. I like what phil said at the press conference today. someone asked if they planned to try and provoke sheed and/or perkins so that they’d get t’d up and then suspended. phil responded by saying that he doesn’t believe in playing that way and that that’s not the right way to play. classy on his part.

If the NBA finals were handled like this, by both the refs and players, during the regular season, I’d stick purely to college ball. It’s just getting so annoying.

Cosign Sparker…the calls in game 4 that Sheed was mad about were not fouls. Do not punish a player for being mad at your bad call. The refs take things too personal, it’s like they have all turned into Joey Crawford.

Maybe the refs should get suspended for all the bad calls they’ve been making this whole finals.

The worst one was the 3 second violation when the shot clock was only down to 20.

    Ridiculous.

if it was a bad call and he calmly tells the refs about it, you might get a makeup call if they agree. if you run away like a spider bit a buffoon in it’s ass, then you’re getting a T instead. be smart about it.

Sometimes the C’s embarrass their fans. C’mon, fellas. Classy, not trashy…

  • LD

I know it wasn’t a foul on Sheed, but I can see why it might look like one. See how Kobe reacted after the non-charge call? He just sat there. Next play, got 3 free throws.

  • LD

I wonder if Sheed was some kind of spoiled brat growing up as a kid. Cry everytime he doesn’t get his way.

  • Ronald

Yeah, ‘Sheed and Nate deserved their techs. ‘Sheed proceeded to run around like an idiot and went around to cussed out each ref individually.

  • riggs

after the bullshat foul they called on sheed after gasol only slipped he needs to start punching refs too

  • Jelte

Wallace is the most irritating player ever. And KG should stop screaming and complaining and start playing basketball. Please guys, show some maturity and elegance…

  • unrel

bad call or not.. the whistle blew.. who the hell would run around screaming like that?.. think about it.. even if he reacted half of what he did.. during a pick up game at the park.. what would we call him?.. a b?.. soft?.. cry baby?.. whiner?..

  • Brian

You mean if I fell down on my own during a run and called a foul we’d be calling you soft if you argued?

  • kudos

Dang, Sheed fouled the hell outta kobe before running in circles. I guess he thought that because he got ball with his hand, the fact that he also slapped kobe across the chest didn’t matter.
