Antawn Jamison’s New, Depressing Reality

With the Cavs’ biggest star ever having bolted town, Jamison is left picking up the pieces in Cleveland. He doesn’t sound too sure about how to go about doing that. From the Charlotte Observer: “The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Antawn Jamison in mid-February. They wanted a wingman to complement LeBron James. After 12 NBA seasons, almost all of them as the star on a bad or mediocre team, Jamison wanted a championship. But the Cavaliers crashed and burned in the Eastern Conference semifinals against Boston and crashed and burned again two weeks ago when LeBron giddily announced he was leaving Cleveland for the Miami Heat. ‘I was disappointed,’ Jamison says Thursday at his basketball camp at Carolina Courts in Indian Trail. ‘I only got to play with him two months.’ Are the Cavaliers your team now? ‘If I’m there, yeah,’ Jamison says. He laughs. ‘They might want to go young, or in a different direction,’ he says. Jamison has two years remaining on a $28 million contract.”

    poor guy, stupid bron!

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

he’s the guy i feel sorry for the most in my cavs.. reality is were not the team he could win one..

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

Cavs could be in worse shape. Jamison is a proven scorer and was a beast when he was the only option in Washington.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

reading through his comments though, i guess he wants to be traded to a contender..

  • CSP8

He should feel bad since he was the one that let KG score at will… And when he was the only option here the Wiz still loss.

2 more years at $28mil? Oh boy.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Translation: Get me the hell out of Cleveland, please.

    ^^^^^this.
And you can’t blame him either.

  • AL29

I can’t feel bad for someone who’s making that much money. That said, he’s always been a hard worker, but been screwed over by circumstances around him.

Tough situation, Cleveland doesn’t really want him and B. Scott pretty much said Jamison will be coming off the bench as the 6th man (possibly 7th). Not the way he wants to ‘fininsh’ his career and 37. As good as he is, the new Cavs system does not fit him (neither did the last) and with that kind of contract it will be really tough to trade him. If he wants a ring he’ll either do it as a 38 year old- or try to get a buy-out from the Cavs and take 1-2 year mid-level deal on a contender. Not sure if the paycut would be worth it for a better chance at a ring, but it’s possible.

I believe that the same will happen next season as did the most recent one. He will get dealt to a contender at the deadline and everyone will think the deal swung everything in favor of his new team. CLE does not want to pay him on this team and there will be some contending team that will think he is a major upgrade for a year and a half.

    Run for the hills man!

  • the downtown brown clown

oh mayne, poor antawn… LBJ should’ve sticked ‘coz B.Scott got something instore for him. Cavs could still make the playoffs, but they need to make moves. and they’d be able to attain that by first, trading mo’ freakin’ williams for a young talent, 2nd trade boobie… then they can pick it up from there. :D they can work with hickson, and become brad daugherty 2010. woohoo! hahahaha! then get kapono from the raptors, mark price 2010. and sign byron russell hahahaha! ehlo 2000! hahahahaha!

    U having fun, downtown brown?

  • http://www.slamonline.com JL

@The Nupe-why would bscott want him to be the 7th man? he’s the best player on the team now. where did you get that from?

  • KB

if he can get outta there houston would b a good fit since they struck out on bosh

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

@ The Nupe.. i think he’s gonna be a good fit. the new system actually involves princeton offense. Yes the same with what antawn had in washington. i think he became an all star in it. Also we’re gonna run, the same with what antawn had as a 6th man in dallas winning him the 6th man of the year award. I dont expect him to be that good again but i think he will “fit” right in the new system..

  • Drew

The Cavs should do him a favor and offer to try and help trade him to a contender. They need to rebuild anyways so there’s no sense in keeping him.

  • T-Money

“i hope, err.. they might want to go young” / i don’t really feel bad for him because truth is he has never performed well in the playoffs (even for dc) and got eaten alive by kg.

  • The D Train

Lebron’s old depressing reality was that Jamison was one of his top 2-3 teammates ever, while in Cleveland. Talk about depressing.

  • Shem

I think Jamison would be a great fit with Orlando, slide Lewis at the SF. Pietrus and Redick off the bench for the wings and Bass and Gortat as the bigs. They’d be a nice team. Dwight’s defense would really compliment Jamison’s fundamentals and skill. But his contract is just too much.. 14 mill is ridiculous for Antawn.

  • JTaylor21

Thats funny DTrain. Whats also must be depressing for bron is that the cavs also choose to go after nothing but old a** dinousaurs. Dude was a young man that hasn’t even reached his prime and they kept on chasing the old guys. Makes no sense.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

@JL & J: In a summer league interview B.Scott was asked about Jamison and said that JJ will start and he hopes that Jamison will except his role as 6th man. The Cavs are running a new ‘up-temp’ offense where Scott wants to really run and push the ball on every posesion and doesn’t know if Jamison fits his scheme but will ‘find’ a way to utilize him.

  • Yesse

I feel bad for everybody who expected to get a ring with the help of LeBron.

  • David

I’m guessing it’s a typo, Nupe, but I can’t help but laugh at the idea that their game plan is “up-temp” with no ‘o’ for no offense.

  • LD

He didn’t do a good job of “winning a ring for the king.”

  • Brickshooting J

14 million US dollars per year for Antawn Jamison!? Get outtta here!

  • bill breedley

the “king” is supposed to win his own ring… not relying on superstars or former allstars to win it for him. poor tawn, you were better of with Zero

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Teddy – why the F would Houston want Jamison? He doesn’t fit with the team structure at ALL.

  • http://None Deesy

I love my ‘Twan. I was happy for him that he was traded to a contender. But, I couldn’t believe that Mike Brown didn’t seem to know Antwan was on the team. He did a diservice to the Caveliers AND to Antwan. I watched the Cavs in the playoffs to cheer on Antwan and kept waiting for him to come off the bench. Any coach worthy of the position would have created a strategy and develop plays that used his talents to support LaBron and the Cavs. I agree that Antwan didn’t show his talents during the playoffs, but he’s a guy that was on the court for over 3 quarters; putting him in for bits and spurts here and there it doesn’t surprise me that he didn’t know what he was supposed to do? Just throwing him in to rest another player? The Cavs could have won it all if Brown had used this hardworking all star in the way that could have shown his talents. Mike Brown should have been fired after a month of Antwan’s arrival….when it was apparent Brown didn’t know how to best use Antwan’s talent. Brown let down his team and the fans….He failed; not the team, not LaBron and not Antwan.

  • Will Lee

he should be happy he’s making 14 mil. Arenas helped him to get his contract and both of them f-ed up after. I feel sorry for Wizards though

  • http://www.hufsf.com Waylonakolipse

At this point the NBA is a 4 team race between LA, BOS, MIA, ORL. If Antwan can’t get on those teams he’ll retire without a title.
