Anthony Randolph Stunned By Trade to Knicks

Don Nelson and the Warriors finally got rid of Anthony Randolph (in exchange for David Lee), who had trouble believing it happened. Believe it, kid. From the San Jose Mercury News: “When LeBron James announced his decision to play for the Miami Heat early Thursday night, one side effect was that it cleared the way for the Warriors to make forward Anthony Randolph the centerpiece of a sign-and-trade deal that is sending him to New York for All-Star forward David Lee. The trade won’t be finalized until today, and Randolph was hesitant to talk until it became official. But the stunned looked on his face, moments after getting word of the deal, said it all. He was an ex-Warrior. ‘I don’t what to say,’ he said quietly. ‘It’s so crazy. I can’t gather my thoughts right now. My job is just to play basketball. I’ve always taken the position of whatever happens, happens. Still, it can be a shock when it happens.’ Randolph was in Las Vegas to practice with the Warriors summer league team, but now he’s headed to a new club. ‘It’s just so bittersweet,’ Warriors guard Stephen Curry added. ‘I thought we had a young core that could grow together. I saw real potential in our group. But that’s the business. You can’t pick who you play with. You just have to make the best of situations.”‘

Kid has so much potential, should be fun for him with D’Antoni. Randolph, Gallo, Amar’e…not a bad start for NY

  • roebro

they already have Amer’e, so why get another power forward? oh, and first!

  • http://www.myspace.com/royaltyoftommorow Tommy

Good for New York. Clearly They plan to play amare at center. In that system with amare and gallo, randolph just walked into a great situation.

  • vuk

because amare can play center as well

  • Jack

Curry: “You can’t pick who you play with.” Has he not been paying attention?

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

@Jack Haha, no joke. Hopefully this works out for both players. I like them both. Randolph should be able to run in D’Antoni’s system which is 10% more refined that Nellie’s run and gun.

  • WangChung

Not hating on the Knickerbockers, but it’s not exactly a team known for bringing the best out of its players (Lee aside). This move is potentially devastating to a kid widely regarded as “all-star potential”.

  • Groves

wouldn’t curry prefer to play with a player that is twice as productive and proven to come up big when needed???

@roebro anthony can play a shift forward role and if used to his total compacity even a kind of lamar kind of thing…if he can somehow transfer his summer play to the season he will be a great pick up for ny..and he can shoot a 15 footer under d-antoni system he will be shooting. 3s in 2 weeks!

Isn’t David Lee just Andris Biedrins with a jump shot? And isn’t Randolph like a proto-Amare? Why trade for a redundancy?

Please, Randolph hated playing for Nellie. I’m sure he’ll be much happier with a change of scenery, and playing for the Knicks under Coach D’Antoni.

  • a_whiteman

I’m sorry david lee>>>>>andris biedrins all century!

I think Anthony Randolph will flourish in Mike D’Antoni’s system. He was held back in Golden Stat by Nellie. We know from his Summer League sessions what he can do. I say this is a win for NY

  • chingy

Steph Curry: don’t sleep on David Lee.

  • Drew

People are really going to be surprised how good Randolph will be in NY. He’s going to be Lamar Odom 2.0 tapping full potential.

  • rainman10

I think its funny that people keep talking about Anthony Randolph and his summer league dominance. Why not trade for Adam Morrison too, he averaged over 20 a game last yr in summer league.

  • WangChung

LOL at rainman10…don’t forget Morrison has veteran Championship experience with the hardware to show for it.

pg Douglas, sg Chandler? (i guess), sf Gallo, pf Randolph, and I guess Amare is playing C. In the east…..thats gonna be tough to get in the playoffs now, i see the knicks having to battle the last 2 weeks like the bulls did this season just to get in…thats just me saying with what they have now….will be entertaining

  • loqui

The Knicks will be a lot of fun this season. I expect us to sign a point guard pretty soon. Man, a frontline of Amar’e, Randolph and Gallo is going to give teams fits! I can’t wait!

Really like this move for the Knicks. I bet Randolph ends up playing more C than Amare. AR is like 7’1″ and even though he’s a bit thin and not really a banger at all. Dantoni doesnt care. As long as he’ll rebound and run, he’ll get time and he’ll do his thing. I honestly think NYC is just a PG away from having a really nice young nucleus. I mean, Gallo, Amare, Randolph is a pretty dope frontcourt, Willy Chandler is a versatile SG/SF and I suppose Toney Douglas is actually a decent fit with hig defensive grit and 3pt shooting. NY coulddefinitely land a 7th or 8th seed if they put it together quickly.

  • ConeyIslander

I enjoyed having DLee on the squad but we got some value for him atleast. Best wishes David Lee, he’ll kill out there.

  • pace

yo, Randolph and Amare is gonna be every bit of drama as it sounds…i think the young fella minght swing on Stat before the seaon is over

  • http://www.hufsf.com Waylonakolipse

I’m bay area and I’ve watched Randolph play a bunch. He’s super athletic but has little skill. 6’10 with no go to move in the post. Weak at PF, too short at C, unskilled for SF. Warriors came up real good with this trade. Brandon Wright/Udoh at PF, Lee/Biedrins at C with Tolliver and Gadzuric on the 3rd string. Warriors got size to go with scoring now….this almost makes up for them fucking up the We Believe team.

I’m bay area and I’ve watched Randolph for 2 years. The Warriors came up the winners of this deal. Randolph is weak at PF, too short for C, and unskilled at SF. 6’10 and he doesnt have a low post move. Brandon Wright and Ekpe Udoh are better fits at PF…with Lee and Biedrins at C the warriors now have size to go with scoring. This almost makes up for them messing up the We Believe team.

  • Chris

Amare is 6’11. But the front court should be fun. Wilson just needs to work on a J. Toney needs to learn how to control the pace of the game. Great defender. This team is like a 7/8 in the league. They still need a legit center, tho.

I really hope they resign Earl Barron. I loved that guy.

  • Bruno

what was curry thinking when he said that
I prefer David Lee he’s way better than randolph

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

@Waylonakolipse- NOTHING will make up for them breaking up the We Believe team.

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

didnt hear about them re-upping tolliver?

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

funny to me, cause anthony ALWAYS has a sad face on/looks like he’s gonna cry. anyway, i like this trade, but sucks we had to lose bookie. you knick fans are SLEEPING on bookie. one thing for sure is, if lee and biedrins (healthy version) start together, get ready for fastbreak city cause those 2 will be terrorize the boards

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

Biedrins and Lee both got those crazy board number by playing on teams where they were literally the ONLY GUY going after defensive glass on their respective teams. Trust D Lee will keep putting up numbers and doing his thing, but I’ll be surprised if Biedrins is able to do anything besides block shots, board a little and piss Nellie off because he can’t shoot.

  • John Starks

Why is John Starks’ email showing???

“Curry: “You can’t pick who you play with.” Has he not been paying attention?” -Jack
    That was funny.
Still everyone is talking about what could be. I’m thinking ahead and if the Knicks want to land Carmelo and CP3 sooner rather than later Gallo, Wilson, Douglas and maybe even Randolph will have to follow David Lee out of town.

  • KnicksFan

Centerpiece of a trade to the Knicks and the centerpiece of this article. Randolph sounds like hot stuff:

  • Leif

Interview with Randolph up on NBA website. They ask him whether or not he’s going to live up to people’s expectations as a new great and he’s a little taken aback. lol
