Business is Booming for the Miami Heat

As you might’ve expected, the Heat (and businesses in Miami) are cashing in on their new reality. The AP reports: “When Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade made simultaneous announcements on July 7 that they would be teammates in Miami, followed by LeBron James’ decision that lured 10 million television viewers and worldwide attention one night later, Heatmania became an instant phenomenon in the sports business world. The waiting list for Miami season tickets is growing rapidly, fans willing to pay a nonrefundable $100 fee to join. The NBA says the Heat are tops in merchandise sales, with James, Wade and Bosh having three of the five best-selling jerseys. Businesses all over South Florida are trying to cash in on the act, with everything from a LeBron Burger to a ‘Heat Suite’ replete with a Ferrari rental now available. To think, the season is still more than three months away … Indeed, the impact — social and financial, on-court and off-court — James, Wade and Bosh may end up having together in their newly formed supertrio is already becoming apparent. Some estimate their collective financial impact on South Florida could exceed $1 billion, not even taking into account the $329 million in playing contracts they have with Miami through 2016.”

I’m actually pretty proud to say I haven’t bought anything new Heat related because of Chris and Lebron’s arrival. I’m also not sure where they are serving the Lebron burger, but I wonder if there is an hour wait that goes along with it when ordered. #1 in merchandise sales? Already? That can’t be right. The Lakers just won the title right? And Lebron is universally hated? Yeah, either the sports reporting world is full of sh*t about the Heat hate or this is going to be a LONGGGGGGGG 5 years for everyone else in the NBA universe.

I kinda want a Bosh jersey because I know no one else here will have them.

  • LDR4 Posted: Jul.22 at 11:49 am
This is easily the biggest “no sh*t” story ever ran on Slam.

Funny, I went to the gym and everybody made fun of me because I had a red shirt and some black shorts.
They were screaming I was a Heat fan….I felt so bad and embarrased. Hopefully, that is the sentiment in the rest of the nation!!!

  • T-Money Posted: Jul.22 at 12:12 pm
LDR4: Actually, this is far from a “no sh-t” story. Didn’t you know that LeBron damaged his brand? I heard it somewhere recently.

For real Allen P, that’s the main reason dan gilbert threw a PMS fit. Dude is going to be in the exact opposite of what’s going on in south florida. the cavs are going back to the dreadful unis they had before bron and back to less than half empty areans. the city of cleveland, is back to where they love and cherish so much. THE DUMP

You can order the Lebron burger, but it doesn’t actually go to you — it goes to the guy with the slicked back hair who ordered 2 other burgers.

  • Eboy Posted: Jul.22 at 1:44 pm
javy, for your sake I hope you aren’t a fan of the Bulls or the Blazers then.

Business should be booming…the rich get richer scenario here while poor Cleveland dries up….That team is stacked and I’m not just talking the 3 AmiBros..they are signing/resigning quality players too. where is all this cash coming from? Man it must be nice to be loaded. lol

  • Allenp Posted: Jul.22 at 1:54 pm
    That was funny M Cho.

  • Conoro Posted: Jul.22 at 3:59 pm
HaHaHa, the regular season will be even more worthless than this past season! NBA blackout until next June’s Miami/Los Angeles Finals. Lakers in 6 or 7, imo.

  • by3by3 Posted: Jul.22 at 4:58 pm
The only way the heat loses if a team can match up with the triplets with defense and having them to work on defense other than that there will be no way they lose only the lakers hv that posibility but ron artest doesn’t make u work on defense like he used to

  • slamfan4life Posted: Jul.22 at 6:21 pm
All the fairweather fans!!! woo hooo

  • Rusty Posted: Jul.22 at 6:37 pm
That would piss me off bigtime, all of these fairweather fans if i was a someone who had supported the heat through the good and the bad, such as Eboy.

  • wilz Posted: Jul.22 at 9:32 pm
i thought bosh’s only fans were in toronto and his fam in texas. shows the frugality of it all

  • Will Lee Posted: Jul.22 at 9:49 pm

  • Coney Islander Posted: Jul.23 at 9:17 am
Dan Gilbert just crapped and egg.

  • Jordan Zimmerman Posted: Jul.26 at 3:50 pm
I agree, LeBron is big news, especially financially for Miami and the Heat. I wrote in my blog http://bit.ly/cHRl88 on his decisions and the impact it will likely have on all of us here in south Florida.
