Dallas Mavs Want Udonis Haslem

Mark Cuban isn’t going to make life easy for Pat Riley and co. down in Miami (shocker!). Yahoo! has the details: “The Dallas Mavericks are determined to make it difficult for free agent Udonis Haslem to easily return to the Miami Heat. The Mavs have offered a contract believed to be a minimum of three years and $20 million, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Mavericks have offered Haslem their full mid-level exception starting at $5.85 million this season, a league source said. The Heat are trying to re-sign Haslem to play with Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh, but salary cap restraints could leave them with as little as $4.3 million a year to pay him. And that’s assuming the Heat signs free agent Mike Miller(notes) starting at $4.9 million.”

Backing up Dirk? Do what you want UD, you know where your home is when your time is up in any other city. If Shaq goes to the Mavs too, either their front line becomes actually hardened and tough, or undersized and old. Not sure how the Shaq/Dirk dynamic would work.

    I love Cuban…

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

We’ll miss him, but he deserves this deal.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

This is not going to hurt the Heat though.

Mark Cuban is being a d*ckhead as usual. Still mad that Miami beat Dallas in the Finals. Or, should I say Dirk and company choked, as usual.

Did anyone say anything when he signed half the effing Eastern Conference? Udonis Haslem will remain with Miami simply due to the fact that he is wanted in Miami – there is no amount of money that can buy the feeling of being wanted.

That’s what Cuban cannot seem to understand.

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

I don’t know about that, Don. Money talks. You know the rest of that saying.

Eboy that is funny. You now have 2 2nd round picks behind Bosh. Rookies make mistakes. This doesnt matter in the regular season, but when it comes to the playoffs you will miss Haslem. Get off your high horse already. Sure you got ‘the biggest 3 evaaar’ but you dont have any real depth. Unless you plan on playing Wade, Lebron, and Bosh 40+ minutes a game the entire season you wont be able to mask that.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

BET, you do realize that there will be other veteran players filling spots on the roster right, and not paying UD frees up even more money they were planning on paying HIM? Don’t get excited bro, the Cats may still make the playoffs and you know I like your boys. The real depth needs to be in place by October 1st. Don’t be stupid like the rest of the haters. I know you aren’t.

Behind the ‘new big three’, Miami have to have THE worst supporting cast out there. This Heat team will struggle to win a championship.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

HEY EBOY…sorry champ….I’m warming to the idea of being a hater. ^_^
    ___
I guess I like the idea of seeing if Kobe can beat these THREE guys at one time. THAT would be interesting wouldn’t it? Certainly would do something about HIS legacy…
    ___
It’s not so much about hating… just…. well. Can you fathom how much everyone wants to HUNT down the heat????????

  • AL29

You could add Wade, Lebron and Bosh to Dallas and they still wouldn’t win a championship.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

So eboy, for having a contrary opinion i am a stupid hater? I think you guys have the greatest core in modern day basketball (post Jordan era) but i just want to see a finished product. How are you going to tell me to judge based off of what could happen? Lebron could be traded. Bosh could commit suicide. Wade could retire. Every single free agent on the makert could ‘volunteer’ to play for free for the Heat. But that is all hypothetical. Im talking about right now, and right now this move made you guys a worse team.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Your still my dude though. Just make sure lil’ eboy doesnt end up like those self righteous New England brats from watching too many victory parades.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

“Im talking about right now, and right now this move made you guys a worse team”. No BET, THIS sentence has made you appear to be a stupid hater to the 100th degree.

  • riggs

eh BETCATS has a point, even though i know Udonis is going to stay with the heat (the dude is loyal to the core), it would make the heat worse. the stupid hater to the 100th degree award should be given to AL29′s comment right above BET’s…seriously.

Tell us Eboy, how is losing Haslem making the Heat better? They will of course fill spots with savvy veterans, but Haslem is hard-nosed and the perfect complement for stars.

Betcats is not hating on anyone, he’s just pointing something obvious, just like losing Fisher will hurt the Lakers.

What kinda money would it take the Heat to sign Big Z, UD, Mike Miller, Quentin Richardson, and Joel Anthony????

I really wanna see these guys in Miami. It could turn this team into an EXCELLENT group. And I am an always was/will be a Heat fan first and foremost.
I think the Heat should, if possible, make Joel Anthony the starting center because of what he gives defensively, and then Big Z would give so much to the bench. Mike Miller as the back up 2/3, Q-Rich as the back-up 2/3, UD backing up Bosh, and then if the Heat get Fisher, he can back up Chalmers, or get Arroyo back and he can start or back up Mario.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Eboy, you get more money to spend i get it. It doesnt change the fact that RIGHT NOW losing Haslem makes your team worse. He is not part of the main core, but he is an important part of the team. If he is gone then they need to find someone to fill the void. They will have no problem doing that. If telling the truth makes me a hater then so be it. I just didnt expect between you, a grown man/lawyer and me a highschool student/cashier i would be the more mature one who isnt calling another “internet personality” names.

  • Jose

Damnit! Haslem Ur like my favorite player on that team after dwyane even w/ LBJ and bosh there. I really hope u stay. If not then Good luck in Big D.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Fine BET, the Heat suck terribly if Haslem leaves. I agree with you.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Too far Eboy, too far. They dont suck but they took 1 step back which they will eventually use to take 3 steps forward. But right now they are still on the 1 step back phase. Get it?

  • http://www.shawnkemp.com JACO

If UD leaves i’ll be sad because along with dwyane he has been the constant on this team. I will wish him luck in dallas, they are getting a player that will leave it all on the floor for his team.

  • http://slamonline.com Jon W.

won’t someone answer my earlier question???

  • D12FSU

simply put, the 12 man team the heat will have by october, will not be able to match up to the 12 men one of the other (lets say 4) true contenders have….now if we were playing 3-3, the heat will win, 5-5, miami will still be the favorite…but to repeat what im sure everyone has said, its an 82 game season with a minimum 16 games of playoffs to win the title. Miami CURRENTLY does not have the DEPTH to sustain the level of excellence required……….(Lakers Magic, 2011 NBA finals)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

The Lakers have won two titles by playing 7 players (Luke Waltons’s token minutes and Farmar/Brown’s combined minutes are included with LO’s). Josh Powell, Mbenga and Sasha are not contributors, don’t even try to pawn that bullsh*t off on anyone. Let’s not talk stupidly (well that’s not possible around here but….)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Hey, BET, UD just re-signed with the Heat, does this news make them 3% better or 10 %? I’ll wait.

  • http://dsjkflf.com Jukai

Eboy: Dude, you gotta take a step back. Haslem IS sort of a big deal. Does it guarantee a championship for the heat? Doubtful. But Haslem was the BEST BENCH PLAYER YOU COULD HAVE IN THIS FREE AGENCY who could come and give 15 great minutes behind Bosh. Who ELSE was there to do the job Haslem could? Literally no one this year.
I know you’re acting all nonchalant about Haslem resigning to back up what you said earlier, but I’m sure you’re actually jumping for f’ing joy right now.

  • http://dsjkflf.com Jukai

Oh… they had to give Haslem four million… eesh… looks like Fisher wont be coming to the Heat… time to go after Barnes.

  • http://dsjkflf.com Jukai

Hey, like clockwork, Fisher went back to the Lakers

  • kudos

Haslem stays with heat for less money. Good, because his d is overrated. Haslem’s d is overrated.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

    3.10% better
