Darko Milicic, Wolves Reach Agreement

This deal makes the Drew Gooden one look like bargain. As reported by Chad Ford: “The Minnesota Timberwolves have made a verbal agreement with free agent Darko Milicic on a four year, $20 million deal sources close to the process told ESPN.com’s Chad Ford. Free agents can’t formally sign contracts until July 8. The fourth year of the contract is only partially guaranteed, sources said. The deal for Milicic is extraordinary considering that in February he wasn’t playing and said he was giving up on the NBA and returning to Europe…The deal is the second for the Wolves in the first 24 hours of free agency. Earlier this morning the team agreed to a four year, $13 million deal with their 2008 second round-pick, Nikola Pekovic. With the two moves, the Wolves just spent $33 million to shore up their middle.”

    Goddamnit.

  • YOMOMMA Posted: Jul.1 at 1:43 pm
Amazing how such a worthless guy keeps getting contracts and 5M a year?!.. while good and young players can’t even get a 1 year for 100,000 contract.

Myles, where does Pek and Darko rank in the hierarchy of Wolves center greats?

  • JACO Posted: Jul.1 at 1:59 pm
cosign YOMOMMA, couldnt have said it better.

Khan may go down as the worst GM in NBA history. I can’t wait to see who he gets in return for Al Jefferson…

  • dsleepy Posted: Jul.1 at 2:10 pm
what? seriously…what? went from too many pg’s to too many bigs? are they trading al jeff or not?

  • LD Posted: Jul.1 at 2:10 pm
Good idea to bring some championship experience nto minisota.

  • Hussman25 Posted: Jul.1 at 2:21 pm
Im pulling for Darko! He can be productive if given time… which means he must be going into the season as Starting Center… Love is not going anywhere… So long Al!

  • rainman10 Posted: Jul.1 at 2:24 pm
Al Jeff can be traded now. They already have a border line all-star PF in Kevin Love. Both Love and Milicic are great for the triangle offense, and their styles compliment each other. Good move by Minnesota. Darko showed good stuff as a starter, about 10 and 6 a game with some blocks, just what you need from a center playing next to a guy like Love.

wow kahn is really out to show that he sucks at this job.

  • nicko Posted: Jul.1 at 3:15 pm
Kahn is just trying to add guys to his wolfpack.

  • Ian Posted: Jul.1 at 3:16 pm
cant say i agree with this move…@rainman…so you’re saying the Wolves can compete with their 2 bigs averaging 10-5 and 15-10…not with a starting backcourt of Flynn, Brewer and Martell, or anyone else they could throw in there

  • rainman10 Posted: Jul.1 at 3:50 pm
@ Ian, Love averaged 14 and 11 last yr in less than 30 minutes a game. If Jefferson leaves I see Love gettin 18 and 12. Jefferson could get moved for some talent on the wing. Don’t underestimate Flynn’s development and the new guys Webster and Johnson on the wings. It will be a lot of these guys 2nd season with the triangle offense. But this still all depends on if Jefferson gets moved and for who. The old rumored Jefferson for Granger deal would have been nice.

  • cp3fan Posted: Jul.1 at 3:59 pm
Bad move. Don’t see why they need to trade an all-star caliber center and sign a garbage player to a long term deal.

  • Scottie Pimpin Posted: Jul.1 at 4:18 pm
hold up, they want to trade Jefferson, but they quickly sign up this scrub ? what the #@!$ ?

  • WADE Posted: Jul.1 at 4:54 pm
The Wrath of Kahn strikes again. Good for Darko, not his fault. I’d take the money too if my train wreck of a GM offered this. I pray Flynn and Johnson get out of there soon.

  • ccantrell Posted: Jul.1 at 5:23 pm
darko is a somewhat misunderstood player.. he had so much hype coming into the L and has pretty much let everyone down but was playing good solid basketball for the twolves toward the end of last season.. it sure didnt hurt them

  • Overtime Posted: Jul.1 at 6:54 pm
Darko’s servicable, he can be a cog in a team, but worth 20 mill he is not. Love is a great player who can make an impact, but this would make him the primary inside option (something he probably can do, but not immdiately straight away, seeing as he hasnt been having starting minutes yet)
    Kahn…oh my.

  • DonWong Posted: Jul.1 at 7:46 pm
I’m willing to bet $5 that if Kahn offered Darko half as much money, he still would of signed the contract. What a good way to unnecessarily spend $10 mill

  • Dacre Posted: Jul.1 at 8:43 pm
    *Darko
*Earvin Johnson (and not the ‘magic’ one either)
    *Luc Longely
    *the ‘kandiman’, Michael Olowakandi
    *Stacey Williams
    these team KNOWS centres….
    :/

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Jul.1 at 8:56 pm
Darko has some talent, decently mobile for a 7footer, decent range too. And he can block some shots. This might be the chance he needs. If given mins, he can do 14 10 2.

Wolves front office smokes a large amount of crack before making any executive decisions

  • Dma Posted: Jul.1 at 10:07 pm
Somewhere kwame brown is not pleased.

  • Hursty Posted: Jul.1 at 10:08 pm
    lol wut. That’s terrible.

  • logues Posted: Jul.1 at 10:11 pm
this is shocking. how can someone, esp a nba GM, be so dumb?

  • BETCATS Posted: Jul.1 at 10:36 pm
David Kahn just does these things to show people he is in a position with enough power to do them. To quote Kanye “no one man should have all that power”. No one man named David Kahn.

  • Lazarus Posted: Jul.2 at 12:02 am
    ^rofl

  • Clippers4life Posted: Jul.2 at 2:12 am

  • Yesse Posted: Jul.2 at 7:54 am
    Hahahahaha. What was Minnesota thinking.

  • Jeremy O Posted: Jul.2 at 2:57 pm
HAHAAAAAA!!!!! The incompetence in the NBA offices is actually entertaining. 20 mil to Darko!?!!? HA!!
