Kobe Bryant Recruiting Raja Bell

This would certainly make Laker practices a tad more interesting next season: “Kobe Bryant apparently will hit the recruiting trail again today. He has scheduled a face-to-face meeting with free agent guard Raja Bell, who could be the final piece of the puzzle in the Lakers’ backcourt. A meeting between Bryant and Bell, two formerly bitter rivals, was reported Tuesday by ESPN.com, which cited an unnamed source close to the situation. Bell is traveling to Los Angeles to attend the ESPYs and will meet with Bryant today.”

Whatever it takes to 3-peat, KB24 knows this.

  • JoeMaMa

Adding Bell, after having added Blake, would make this team even more dangerous. See, this is how you build a team. Over time, with the right pieces. Not to take away from Miami, because they’re right there right away, but the chemistry of the Lakers will be deadly. Bell is a true competitor, and between him, Kobe, and Artest, the opposing wings are locked DOWN. The Lakers will win a 3rd straight with D.

Raja should sign their just so he can closeline Kobe in practice.

  • http://palehour.com Pale

Don’t do it Raja! Come back to Phoenix. I think they want you. At least they should…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

While I would have liked to have seen him in Miami, it would be cool to see him back in Phoenix. He’d be nice in LA too.

  • LA Huey

I hope this is all part of a ridiculous plan by Raja and Ron-Ron where they pull some WWE ish on Kobe in the locker room.

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

I wonder who is more convincing, Kobe Byrant or Gordon Gekko…err, I mean Pat Riley. Bell backing up Artest would be a nice addition. As I commented yesterday, the Lakers have $1.8 million left of their MLE with which to offer Bell.

  • Ronald

Hmm, Lakers building a team in the “right way”? Didn’t Pau Gasol land on their laps?

  • Ronald

I mean, yeah, Raja Bell is a nice piece. But let’s not get confused here. The Lakers aren’t the Spurs. At least the Spurs had the gall to tank a season to get TD and took risks.

  • Ken

    Co-sign LA Huey.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

@Ronald: The Lakers can thank Jerry West for that sweetheart deal. I still can’t get over how the Lakers didn’t swallow Brian Cardinal’s bad contract, or have to give up Lamar Odom. Let’s face it, the Lakers raped Memphis for a player of Pau Gasol’s caliber. That trade was huge for Kobe and his legacy.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

I can see both Ron and Raja double teaming Kobe in practises…

  • Lawrence

that’s the right way to build a team…BOSTON AND MIAMI suck!!-acquiring superstars isn’t evrything!!and by the way, Lebron will never get a championship trophy as long as Kobe is still in the league and hasn’t pass on the throne…AMEN.

  • http://slamonline.com Anjoe Intal

That’s how you re-bulid the lakers bench.

  • LA Huey

Laker fans talking about how you build a team aren’t making sense. What’s the problem free-agency? That’s how you got Shaq, Artest, and re-acquired Fisher. Or are you salty because a team went from a 1st Round KO to a potential threat? It’s not like Miami tanked their season to get a lottery pick. And they’re actually under the cap, unlike The Lake Show. Quit hatin’.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

@Ronald, The Lakers gave the Grizzlies a heck of a package for Pau Gasol. A well respected ex-scout once said Marc Gasol has much more upside than the softer Pau. So no, Jerry West didn’t just help give away Pau Gasol to the Lakers. In the end, there’s a “chance” the Grizzlies might come out the real trade winners. lol

  • kh

    I like, A LOT!

  • Yesse

Wow, Kobe is certainly doing his job. He is even doing more than the GM. He got Fisher back and now Raja?

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

this RIDICOULOS LAKESHOW fans saying whats the right way to build a team…GO FU(K YOURSELVES, seriously, thats what yall should do..YOU FU(KIN STOLE PAU GASOL away from Memphis while other teams had better offers…without him theres NO TRHEE PEAT CHASE CAUSE THERES NOT EVEN ONE FUKIN TITLE! oh and Raja´s a nice adition but the Spurs will give him momoney!

  • dsleepy

@IAMORANGE4EVER: but besides marc, can you really point to anything that materialized from that trade? kwame brown? late first round picks? so in essence, it became a pau for marc swap. i think i’ll take pau

  • http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090624&sportCat=nba Drew

Co-sign IAMORANGE4EVER – Marc Gasol last season is already averaging 14.6PPG, 9.4RPG, 2.4APG, with a PER +21.14. Compared to Pau’s averages of 19.6PPG, 11.10RPG, 3.5APG, and PER +26.96. Marc is also close to 5 years younger than Pau.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sesa.opas Sesa

@Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers you can hate anyone. It’s a free world but why the caps? :)

  • http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090624&sportCat=nba Drew

The Grizzlies were planning on rebuilding anyways, so they have the patience to wait for Marc to get closer to him prime. It wasn’t that big of a lopsided trade.

  • riggs

co-sign LA Huey, wtf are you laker fans talking about? i swear some of the dumbest fans in sports history…

  • unrel

memphis was dumping all their large contracts.. it wasn’t a trade for players.. it was getting guys back that they didn’t need.. because the franchise.. as a business.. was going under..

  • c_cantrell

    ^riggs
    ^LA Huey
ha you guys are right lol lakers fans can get kinda radically stupid sometimes

  • unrel

but that was a pau gasol hi-jack.. for sure.. but it’s no different than today’s housing market.. great for buyers.. horrid for sellers..

  • c_cantrell

^that being said, bell would be an absolutely amazing, brilliant pick up for the lakers

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Is Raja Bell a replacement for Derek Fisher?

  • unrel

you guys are getting upset because a few fans said 2 words (“right way”)?.. you folks are too emotionally driven.. technically.. for the lakers.. it is the right way.. they have enough stars and the first 7 guys can start anywhere else in the league.. so adding a big time role player IS the right way.. just as miami’s work this off season was the right way to get d.wade some help.. so be easy when talking about fans because it makes you guys look foolish being upset about 2-3 words..

  • unrel

@joel.. no.. fish resigned the other day.. he’s more like a replacement for shannon brown

  • John Starks

    If he signs 3peat secured

  • http://dsjkflf.com Jukai

As a Phoenix Suns fan, Raja Bell is one of my favorite players EVER to play the game. He’s tough as nails on the court but is a class act off it, and he knows his role on a team. He is a pure blue collar, dirty work player.
That being said, if anyone thinks Raja Bell is the ‘key’ to their team, they are fuc}(ing bats@#t crazy

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

Nice. This will be good for LA.
Recruiting solid *supporting” players = good move
    NOTE: Supporting
    Keyword: Supporting
PS. Raja Bell is a supporting player
    PPS. Wade/Bosh are not.

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

Very reason why I’d like him in Miami. He played his colledge ball here and I believe lives here during the offseason. I wish him well wherever he ends up. Have always liked the guy.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

tealish: what’s your point? Isn’t recruiting a star player much better for a team than recruiting a ‘supporting’ player? Recruiting any needed element is good but just like when the lakers going after Pau or Artest (both more stars than supporting) would you suggest those were not as good of moves than now going after Raja. Seems like you are trying to make some point – I’m just not sure what it is. I’d rather recruit Wade/Bron than Raja anyday and you say this is a good move but somehow dilute it.

  • JTaylor21

Lockdown what opposing wings joemama? artest is not the same defender he was, he doesn’t have the same foot speed he used to posses, bryant has never been a great perimeter defender as witnessed by gil giving him 60. That should automatically disqualify him from any great defender talk but his name keeps on coming up. I dont know why. raja bell is a good defender but if u think that he will be able to stay in front of the likes of wade/rondo/roy your badly misinformed. The only reason the lakers are a good defensive team is becasue of their size.

  • http://Www.dimemag.com Royal

J-Taylor- loving the hate! Lol!!!! Guy is 1st team all-D every year! He was never a good defender huh? Saying $hit like that should just bar you from commenting.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

This is going to be crazy

  • peanuts?

Of course the Lakers got the better end of the deal when they sent Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton and the rights to Marc Gasol to Memphis but I think Memphis did okay for themselves. Marc Gasol has put up nice numbers his first two years in the league. Marc averaged 14.6 ppg and 9.3 rpg last year, these are comparable numbers to Kevin Garnett and I don’t ever remember anyone complaining about KG and his ability to play the game even at this stage in his career. Don’t tell me Memphis didn’t get anything for Pau, that is ridiculous. Marc will probably never be as good as Pau but who really is? The trade has benefited Memphis in that they have been allowed to let guys like Javaris and Kwame go so they can sign the likes of better players like Rudy Gay. Memphis didn’t trade to ruin their franchise, no team does that.

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Kobe also wants Reggie Miller to come off the bench cussing his ass out to motivate him

  • Gym Rat

For all that is holy…DON’T DO IT RAJA!!

  • JTaylor21

Peanuts La got to go 3 straight finals and win 2 while got kwame and watched it at home. enough said.

  • peanuts?

    @JTaylor21

By the way you write you obviously aren’t very bright so naturally you don’t get it as you are missing the point.

  • stang15

To all the Laker haters out there…just accept the fact that the Lake show will win again this coming season. It does not matter who we add, we’ll get the 3peat and laugh again at all you haters.

  • hobbes

Hahaha reading Lakers fan’s post n couple haters always cheer me up and make me laugh~ it’s 3peat season, and u can take it to the bank this time.

  • http://www.hufsf.com Waylonakolipse

Raja Bell is washed up. He won’t be a deciding factor on who wins the title in 2011. Either way, LA or MIA. It’s going to be decided by a Big 3 from LA, BOS, or MIA.

  • Trevor

@ the comment about supporting vs star.

For certain teams ala Lakers, supporting players right now are more valuable than stars. Too many cooks in the kitchen syndrome. You need to weigh in the triangle system when looking at the need for strong supporting roles. The triangle offense does not have room for multiple big ego players. It is definitely a fragile though deadly system Phil is running and I think when you look at these free agents the Lakers are going after you see that conscious effort to keep the triangle balanced.

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

He just signed with the Jazz.

  • http://dsjfklf.com Jukai

Wow. I did not see THAT one coming.
