Nets Going All-Or-Nothing for LeBron

Players like Joe Johnson, Rudy Gay and Amar’e Stoudemire are nearly-signed with other teams, but the Nets are staying patient. From Newsday: “One by one, the players on the Nets’ “B” list are being signed and courted by the competition. Rudy Gay has decided to go back to the Memphis Grizzlies. And Amar’e Stoudemire is in serious talks with the Knicks. The Nets, however, had nothing scheduled over the weekend. Nada Saturday. Nada Sunday. And that lack of activity is a lack of activity with a purpose. The Nets have put all their chips in the middle of the table – and that table is in Cleveland. The team brass isn’t going anywhere or talking to anyone until LeBron James tells the world where he wants to be next season.”

not a good move by nets if lbj signs elsewhere all other free agents could be signed by then

  • LDR4 Posted: Jul.4 at 10:26 am
So would not getting him feel as bad or worse than losing 70 games last season?

  • Hambone Posted: Jul.4 at 10:44 am
    that`l be nothing then

  • Royal Posted: Jul.4 at 10:44 am
Lebron to me is the only player that they really have a
legit chance at getting.Rudy would have helped but he already resigned with the griz.I assume d-Wade and jj would help but they have shown no interest. And there is really no point in signing a power forward that would stunt the growth of Derrick Favors.

Seems like a dumb move…like they’re ultra-confident they’ll get him and the rest will follow?
What happens if it takes another two weeks for Lebron to decide…and everyone else has vanished

  • BostonBaller Posted: Jul.4 at 11:09 am
This could be a smart/shrewd move by the Nets. No other 1 player could be their center piece and if they don’t get lbj they don’t lose much b/c they are already at the bottom..lottery time again. Plus they seem to be using the college recruiting style to make him feel as though he is their 1 and only…….

    Co-sign BostonBaller.
Glad to see you’re having a safe vacation.

I have an idea if they can’t get lebron why don’t they just tank like they did last year and try to get harrison barnes or perry jones thats the old fashion way of getting a good player

  • J Posted: Jul.4 at 12:02 pm
i dont think they would go bottom like last year, 1. because avery wont allow that and so as russian dude, 2. Even if they dont get top flight FA’s they will surround themselves with more better talents to be mediocre at least.. And if that happens, i think they’ll target some hometown boy in denver next year w/c is not impossible.,

co-sign The Philosopher. That team is prepped for a superstar SG or SF. Wade and LBJ are the only ones that fit that profile and Pookie aint interested. What else can they do? They probably still have that deal w/ Utah to swing favors for Boozer.

  • rainman10 Posted: Jul.4 at 1:00 pm
Favors for Boozer would be bad. For the Nets.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Jul.4 at 1:23 pm
J is right. Also: even with out current roster we’ll have a better record than last year. The last 1,5 month of the season Terrence Williams played great, and he’ll be another year older. So IF nothing would happen (which I doubt) the starting 5 would be Harris, Lee, Williams, Favors and Lopez. And as a fan that won’t make desperate. You have to look at it like this: the Nets don’t want to overpay on players they don’t really want. So you could go for the “B” free agents, making some panick moves, but that’s not the way they want to do business. Spending money for the sake of spending money is not part of the plan, and I like that.

If I were Lebron I’m looking at the Nets. They are the only team that improved coming into this free-agency. The others gutted their team just to get into 2 max fa territory. Nets: added #3 pick Favors and #24 pick D. James
got a real head coach in Avery Johnson
got rid of locker room cancer – CDR
got rid of soft injury prone big man – Yi Bulls: lost Hinrich, Miller, Tyrus Thomas, John Salmons, #17 pick Knicks and Heat: have no roster Cleveland: lost Shaq, no room for improvement

  • giogolo Posted: Jul.4 at 2:40 pm
    gerard and J seems logical

  • notblack Posted: Jul.4 at 3:50 pm
Why would lebron want to end up here dident he say a milli times he wants a wring not a high paying joke go to NYC, CLV, not the chi it dosent work for 2 high caliber leaders that need posesion ALOT [not that they dont deserve it] it would screw over the rest of the franchise.

  • g-paul Posted: Jul.4 at 3:52 pm
isnt melo from baltimore ? j why you calling him hometown boy , or are you from baltimore?

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.4 at 4:03 pm
@ g-paul: JR Smith is a Jersey baby.

  • Chris Posted: Jul.4 at 7:21 pm
Its a bad move… They may have taken themselves out of the running now that Wade and Bosh are colluding to make a home in Chicago. LBJ, if he wants to compete, will need to go to a team with another big free agent. I don’t think Brook Lopez will get that done, and who knows how Cousins will turn out… 12 games is not a very enticing reason to join a team.

  • Ddub Posted: Jul.4 at 9:26 pm
This a smart move, why over react and start and start to panic if lbj doesnt sing? You are a young team with the two most important positions covered if he doesnt sign and there will be other dominoes to fall
which will allow a young team to start to build for the future, they arent in as bad a shape as some of the other teams that has moved out of desparation.

  • nastynas Posted: Jul.4 at 10:13 pm
melo was born in brooklyn, thats what he was sayin’

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.5 at 12:26 am
    ^ Oh yeah… That too…

  • deano Posted: Jul.5 at 12:57 am
    Lebron is staying in Cleveland

  • JOE! Posted: Jul.5 at 1:29 am
I guess they feel that they can’t do worse than they did last season so why not wait?

  • JoeMaMa Posted: Jul.5 at 9:24 am
I’m thinking LeBron will stay in Cleveland, which makes me actually think even less of this whole dog and pony show. He didn’t resign, which led to a year of everyone speculating, wondering, theorizing, etc. Now, after all this, he signs with Cleveland? Did he do all this just for attention? Notoriety? And now we’ll have to endure this for another year after 2 more seasons? Ugh. I hope the leading sports sites boycott it next time and we can talk about the important stuff, like why Steve Nash’s youtube clips are two thumbs way up.

  • Dacre Posted: Jul.5 at 9:57 am
Nyets championship hopes sparkle with the LeBron or Bust sweepstakes.

  • George Posted: Jul.5 at 1:19 pm
If Lebron won’t come they can go after Melo next year

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Jul.5 at 10:58 pm
Very smart not to go get boozer for too much money. Nets have options if lebronze doesnt sign
