Nuggets to Sign Al Harrington

Denver was able to convince Harrington to join their squad instead of the Dallas Mavs, reports ESPN: “The Denver Nuggets reached an agreement in principle Tuesday night on a five-year, $34 million contract with free-agent forward Al Harrington, according to sources with knowledge of deal. The Nuggets had to outbid the Dallas Mavericks to secure Harrington’s signature after Dallas followed up its trade acquisition of Tyson Chandler earlier Tuesday with a hard push for Harrington, which included an in-person recruiting pitch at the NBA’s annual summer league in Las Vegas from Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. But Denver would appear to have a greater need for Harrington than Dallas, given that the Nuggets expect to start the season with Kenyon Martin and Chris Andersen unavailable after both recently underwent surgical procedures. That enabled Harrington’s agent, Dan Fegan, to land a deal starting at the full $5.8 mid-level exception from the Nuggets which extends for the maximum allowed five years.”

That’s a solid pickup for Denver.

  • JoeMaMa

5 years and $34 mil? Who to they think he is, Amir Johnson? He’s trade bait in 2/3 years.

Ok, I liked the pick up until I read that Kmart and Birdaman are gonna be out ! He’s great off your bench but I don like him as a starter.

Everybody keeps under cutting the Mavs.

  • riggs

    birdman to south beach! lol

  • martey

This guy is more than a bench player. HE WAS THE BEST PLAYER ON THE COURT FOR THE KNICKS. D’antoni wanted to his boy Gallo to start so he benched Harrington, at the detriment of the Knicks, since they played the same position. He can play D, if he plays for a defensive minded coach, and has an outside jumper for a man his size. Denver will love this kid

Getting Al Harrington was a solid off-season move by the Nuggets. Melo’s last season in Denver should be a masterpiece.

  • LA Huey

@martey, he’s a bench player on a contender. Best player for the ’09-10 Knicks isn’t exactly something ma-dukes is going to post on the fridge.

Hell yea, this is exactly what they needed, screw the mavs, they made jordan change his mind about the trade. The raps would have been decent

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

I like him but have to cosign JoeMaMa…he had like a 45 point game in Denver last season I think, and the thuggets will be back to NO DEFENSE WHATSOEVER, wild shots, etc…hope Melo flees to the Knicks…Blazers can not guard that dude and were competing for da division.

  • martey

@la huey. yea you right my dude. lol

  • c_cantrell

solid pick up by the nuggets

  • unrel

good pick up.. but nothing to scream about.. anyone see JR Smith in summer league?.. he should be fine-tuning his game a bit.. shot selection.. patience.. etc.. instead he played And-1 style out there.. good luck nuggets..

  • http://slamonline.com BackInBlack

He dazzled the shit out of them, it seemed like he was playing grade schoolers out there.

  • LA Huey

@unrel, JR is in the summer league? There aren’t restrictions on who can play like they do for the D-League? I’m afraid he’ll never “get it”

  • unrel

anyone can play.. for example.. oj mayo is playing.. so he can fine tune the PG position.. cause he might play more of it.. here’s last night’s nugget highlights.. http://www.nba.com/summerleague/games/20100713/DENCHI/gameinfo.html .. and no.. he’ll never get it..

  • http://slamonline.com/ Ryne Nelson

@unrel: Anyone can play.. as long as you’ve been in the L for less than three full seasons. I think there are exceptions, though.

  • unrel

@Ryne.. thanks.. i wonder what those exceptions are.. not sure what JR’s would be though..

  • JTaylor21

@riggs birdman is already in south beach
