Shaq Unlikely To End Up With Spurs

Marc Stein weighs in on where Shaq may, and may not, end up next year: “The notion that Shaq is going to wind up in San Antonio, though, continues to be overstated. It would obviously be fascinating theatre to see Shaq backing up Tim Duncan, playing for Gregg Popovich and returning to the city where he dominated high school ball after all those years at the forefront of a rivalry that has often prompted Pop to liken the Lakers to the Soviet Union. However … This isn’t merely a long shot because the Spurs aren’t exactly known for chemistry experiments. The reality is that San Antonio has devoted all its energies (and available free-agent cash) to finally bringing Tiago Splitter over from Europe and re-signing Matt Bonner. And it’s safe to say that Shaq isn’t looking to sign anywhere on a low-dollar leftovers with a team short of minutes, too…ut the prospect of Shaq winding up in black and silver, tantalizing as that sounds as a sidebar to everything happening in Miami, realistically can’t happen. P.S.: I’m not buying Shaq as a Heat target, either. Not a likely chemistry experiment on Pat Riley’s radar.”

Hmmm. Retirement looming? Unless “The Big Splinter” can get used to the idea of coming off the bench I think so.

What are the chance of Shaq to Boston? Doc has a knack for managing the minutes of his injured lingering players well as has been seen with the past few seasons.

Does Atlanta still have any interest in him? Do they even have the cap space? Hell, maybe he’ll have to become the Big Europa next year.

Shaq would he be a great addition to the oklahoma city thunder?

    Boston already have an O’neal
there, Jermain O’neal that is LOL

The Big Diesel to the Big Apple for min? You never know, it could happen. Shaq LOVES New York.

I can only see Shaq signing with a contender, and I’m sure one will have him. The only thing New York will be in contention for next year is the lottery.

Shaq still has something in the tank, it is just a matter of a team finding a way to get it out of him without having to alienate the rest of their team. It can be done though.

This is such a BS article. Purely based on conjecture. You guys are quoting the article as if it’s news despite it being an opinion by Marc Stein who doesn’t put any evidence of knowing any insider info. Yeah, it’s true Spurs are known for character guys but they are also known for taking calculated risks and outcasts. Stephen Jackson ring any bells? And, if you guys knew anything you guys would understand how winning is extremely good for any short term “chemistry” problems. Chemistry issues and grumbling only arise during long periods of times, especially with Shaq.

And, I only see Shaq being accepted to a team with established veterans and stars. Imagine if you’re a GM with bunch of impressionable kids and upcomers, are u sure you want a guy who is famous for ugly divorces and questionable work ethic in the locker room?

  • oddball

The celts would be the best fit in my opinion…

  • rainman10

    The Bulls

  • BackInBlack

Shaq would be a great fit for the thunder

  • Yesse

I think it seems ridicilous, that Shaq is still asking for money. He played good in Suns when other keys were out, but his last seasons numbers were not so high. I agree with BackInBlack’s comment. They miss a big man and with Shaq they might succeed against many match up problems. Would be difficult to see Shaq with Tim Duncan anyway, lol. I’m sure many teams could use Shaq and he is still a great player, but he still can’t expect the same salary.

Splitter will finally make his NBA debut. This has been long overdue, good for him.

  • cash

The BIG BANDWAGON is going back to MIAMI!!!!

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Realisticly, I only see Shaq signing with a REAL contender, which is about 3 or 4 teams..

  • manny

why was this article even written? its pure conjecture. spurs will sign splitter on monday, after his physical and their offseason will be over. shaq should sign with a team like OKC maybe?

  • JD

Doesnt matter anyway, i’d prefer Splitter to Shaq
