Trade: Diaw, Chandler to Toronto; Calderon to Charlotte

The news out of Toronto and Charlotte is that the deal — which is part of the Turkoglu/Barbosa trade as well –  is all but complete: “The Charlotte Bobcats are close to sending Boris Diaw and possibly Tyson Chandler to the Toronto Raptors in a three-way deal including the Phoenix Suns that would acquire point guard Jose Calderon and at least one other player, a source from one of the three teams involved confirmed … The financial gains are significant. Barbosa has two years and $14.7 million left on his current contract; Diaw has two years and $18 million remaining and Chandler will be paid $13.1 million this coming season. Turkoglu still had four years and about $40 million left on his deal and Calderon has three years and almost $30 million left to go.”

Boy, for BET’s sake, I hope they get SOMEBODY in return. Calderon and a lesser player would be a complete fail.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

I dont want anybody Eboy. I want that TPE so we can bring in Al Jefferson. Their have been rumors we are trying to get Al, so trading Diaw and Tyson for a starting caliber point guard and a TPE is an extraordinarily good move.

Not really, Calderon can’t defend for his life. Toronto would clearly be the team that won in this trade.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Al Jefferson-Tyrus Thomas-Gerald Wallace-Stephen Jackson-Jose Calderon with DJ, Henderson, Nazr, Derrick Brown, Dominic McGuire, and hopefully either Flip Murray, Stephen Graham, or Larry Hughes off the bench. Plus Ajinca is finnaly ready for 15 minutes a game. We are going to be a 5th-6th seed this year.

  • MTLien

Toronto came out ahead in this deal.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

BackinBlack, the Bobcats were the best defensive team in the league last year (statistically). We need somebody who can provide pure offense. Felton wasnt capable of doing that, Jose can. The rest of the team can mask his defensive lackings. Im excited about this trade.

  • JBP

According to Raptors beat writer Doug Smith, Raps don’t touch the TPE in this trade.

Than in that case it was good for the bobcats. besides his terrible defensive skills he is an amazing set up artist, he can also hit treys. You needed a 1 man and calderon was definitely a better choice than any FA’s. I just think that the bobcats gave up too much for him.

  • wilz

BC doesnt slack off when it comes to shedding baggage. at least we can always count on him to be active whether or not it turns out. if this goes through it totally changes toronto’s flava…for the better

  • vmcb

Not a fan of these moves by BC. Barbosa will take minutes away from DeRozan, and Diaw will take minutes away from Ed Davis and the rest of the young bigs.

As I mentioned in the Hedo post, as long as Chandler MAKES Bargnani play PF then I’m all up for that. And anything else, let’s tank the season and get Harrison Barnes!

  • olddirtyphil

The bobcats needed another point now that felton is gone, unless they wanted dj to be their only guy and i like diaw alittle but this gives me time to thomas and youth.

finally a decent move by the raps!

  • riggs

BET what do you think felton brings to the table for the knicks now that he left your team?

  • http://slamonline.com JL

great for bobcats… they have Tyrus Thomas at PF now so they dont’ need Diaw (feels unstable tho), and now they have a better PG (felton was just an OK PG, not great at anything). Calderon is great at setting the table and shoots a great pct from the floor. Defense sucks but oh well or else he’s a max player. really it helps both teams.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Wow, Raptors actually got an American-born player…Its a new day…

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I like this move by M.J.
Diaw had no heart, Chandler was injury prone and his game was in decline. Plus, he was way more of a liability on the Bobcats surrounded by several other non-scorers and a point guard who couldn’t spoon feed him.
Calderon will get Wallace and Stack Jax easy looks, and run the offense. No, he can’t defend at all, but he can run a team fairly well if he’s not asked to be the second best player, which is what was happening in Toronto. And, if the Bobcats do get Al Jefferson, which would be shocking in a way, then they are straight for real.

  • Aaron

This deal is foggy for both teams, but seems to be a good decision by the Raps front office.

  • Buschfire

looks like in the end Turkoglue for Barbosa, then Jose Calderon and Reggie Evans to Bobcats for Diaw & Tyson Chandler, no TPE involved… looks like the Raptors came out on top because they just shedded huge long term contracts! I’m excited… and for the Raptors I really don’t think Diaw or Barbosa are going to take playing time from Weems, Demar or Ed Davis, we need depth at those positions… the new look raptors get a chance to develop a young team, shed salary and get some close to expiring contracts, plus the draft picks next year, things are looking good for Toronto so far… and we signed Linas Kleiza, Bargnani hopefully will have a break out year BC is making this a fun off season.

I’ll be p!ssed if CHA gets no TPE back. I like Jose but him and Reggie Evans for Diaw and TC is not a good move for the Bobcats. This trade is confusing as hell.

  • T-Money

I love this move for the Raps solely because it’ll enable Bargs to play the 4. Let’s see if he’s more Dirk or more Rik Smits.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Another great trade by Toronto, Jack deserves the keys to run the offense as sole QB.

  • Buschfire

    Jared Jack is the man.

  • iLL wiLL

    YESSSSSSSSSSSS (no Marv Albert)
Jarrett Jack finally gets to run the show!

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

I think this will signal the changes of the high octane offense in PHX this year. Barbosa was one of the guys that made that thing work.

  • King10

Im not really sure how these trades will look for the raptors, esp if Denver doesnt match for linas Kleiza. We get totally loaded (in players) in the frontcourt. Id like to see use get collison though, a proven guy who can play point and in a few years be Nash-like

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Trade fell through because Al Jefferson is off the market/the Bobcats lost interest in the TPE. At least for now.

  • JoeMaMa

@Teddy: a great trade indeed. We have athleticism, big time! It’s going to be rough at times, but we’ll have games when we run the other team off the court. I love Calderon; the guy puts his heart into the game, and BETCATS, treat him well. But Barbosa, Diaw creating…Kleiza, EDavis, Derozan, Weems running the lanes… and Bargs trailing for 3s? I’ll take it.

Hedo Turkoglu is balls. This only moves unwanted players to mediocre teams.

  • c_cantrell

this trade is dead.. chandler is going to dallas and now the bobcats get the amazing all star athlete dampier.. good move cats.. must be the same dude that drafted kwame #1
