Zydrunas Ilgauskas Taking Talents to South Beach

The Heat are stockpiling assets rather quickly. Reports Brian Windhorst: “The Cavs had an offer for Z on the table. Agent Herb Rudoy says Ilgauskas has chosen to sign with Heat. Z hopes to return & be part of Cavs organization when his career is over.”

All the slashing guards and fowards in the league are partying right now. Its a CELEBRATION, BIT**ES. Also see cleveland is getting exactly what they deserve, no one whats to play for a cuckoo owner and rabids infested fans.

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling Kap

Yea they are stockpiling a bunch of old garbage outside of big 3, Miller, and Haslem. If any of big 3 go down with an injury this team is screwed bc of its lack of quality depth and young legs.

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

Yes! UD, Howard, Big Z can hold it down alongside Bosh.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Wow, I thought he would play his entire career with the Cavs.. He must see some potiental in Bron that us fans have yet to see..

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling Kap

@ LA Huey…You do know that front line would be massacred against LA, Orlando, and Boston?

  • http://slamonline.com JL

just a tall stiff (he is now) that they can stick next to Bosh. At least he can hit a jumper and is a savvy vet.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Now all they need is a point guard… but then again, Wade and/or Lebron could always just take up that spot…

  • JTaylor21

BossTerry put down your haterade and take off your stevie wonder shades. You shall see the light.

The heat are making pretty good moves ….big Z is a quality player on the offensive end.

    Well done on the headline.

  • AL29

Z was devastated when the Cavs traded him to Washington mid-Season, even though he knew they were bringing him back. Now he walks? I guess he just didn’t want to play for a bad team.

  • Stillballin

Another letter to the Cleveland fan should be coming out soon..

  • neaorin

Hopefully the big fella can get a ring, although he is a 20 minutes a night guy at this point.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

Cavs fans will miss Z and will cheer for him when he returns in a Heat uni. LeBron’s reception won’t be as warm

  • LA Huey

@Kap, I didn’t say “book it”, but they did well with the options available? Orlando will be a problem but Miami can counter with their perimeter advantage. They’d have to count on Boston and Bynum getting unlucky with their health but I wasn’t expecting a chip this year.

If the Cavs owner doesn’t go on a tirade about this, it just proves he’s the racist Jesse Jackson siad he was.

Crunch time lineup of Bron, Wade, Miller, Bosh and Haslem.
    I like that a lot.
So, they are supposed to add Joel Anthony and they already have Mario Chalmers.
    so the team is:
Bron, Wade, Bosh, Miller, Haslem, Anthony, Chalmers, Z and Juwan Howard.
If they add a few more decent perimeter players, they should be straight.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

In other news, the Heat have signed David Stern.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Allen, don’t give it away….the Heat have NO ONE outside of the 3 major no-talents on their roster. Haven’t you been listening to every moron with a pen, blog, microphone and keyboard since Thursday night?

  • Vandellish

All you naysayers are gonna feel really stupid when the Heat start to run through teams like hot piss through snowfall. We will all be the new generation of witnesses.

  • LA Huey

Also, people forget how dangerous of help defenders and rebounders Wade and Bron are. Haters are selling this team short.

  • The Philosopher

Another common sense move. For BOTH sides.

  • http://Yahoo Shanoooooooo

I like this alot…. FOR THE LAKERS !!! Big Z is done. What the Heat needed to do was sign Shaq Deiz. Dwight Howard killed Big Z two years ago. Mike Miller is done too !

  • Kid Dynamite

Z is on point, he really needs a tan. With one or two more shooters and their draft picks-I think the Heat should “win a few games”…..

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

@j.taylor…. Its hard to show sarcasim in text… We all know what Bron is capable of.. (for more sarcasim, check-out the Chandler to mavs post) ;)

@ Allenp A crunch time line up of Wade, Bron, Miller, Bosh and Haslem will get it done ??? By no means against any of the elite teams. Joel Anthony will get most of the mins if he returns, Not Big Z.

  • The D Train

Dwight Howard, Gass-hole and Bynum are going to have a hell of a time getting anything done against the low-post D of Haslem and Bosh.

  • downtownbrownclown

other news, charles barkley would come out of retirement just to play with the new big three.. hahahaha! Miami’s the place where sir charles can get back in shape. hehehehe! and get a ring for that matter… ;P

    So Shaq is next?

  • 919BW1LL

What a suprise!!! Z is not stupid, he knew to follow Bron. I mean he is….aight (C- maybe D+)But they do need more help.

Big Z needs to take a good, long look at his w.w.d.c.d. bracelett… (what would Drew Carry do?)

  • O

It’ll be funny if Wade and Bosh go down for the season and LeBron is left carrying the load with a bunch of role players that are subpar compared to what he had in Cleveland.

  • Scottie Pimpin

i used to have respects for the big Z, now i dont know.

Wait a minute, ppl are talking about how Miami is going to deal with an 18 ppg scorer (Dwight)? How is Orlando going to deal with 3 of the top 10 scorers in the league?!?! Cmon now.

    Miami needs joel anthony

  • T-Money

and so… is big z showing cowardly betrayal? do we really want to raise our kids so they become big z? when are we casting a spell on big z? so many questions… — interesting article in the plain dealer: akron is actually not mad at all at bron, theyre sticking behind their homegrown hero. and blacks in cleveland are largely supportive of bron. im just sayin.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Shanooooo
So, which team wants to see a crunch time lineup of Bron, Bosh, Wade, Miller and Haslem.
    Let’s break that down.
Bron plays the one, we know he’s a beast at seeing the floor, can stick open three pointers with ease and is ridiculous in the pick and roll.
Wade is your two, he’s great in isolation on the wing, I think can use screens fairly effectivly, knows how to dish when double teamed and can get his shot up quickly.
Bosh is your center. He out runs most bigs. Can hit open jumpers and score on the block. Rebounds at 10+ a game and has a very good motor.
Miller is a career 40 percent shooter from three. He understands spacing, understands rotations and can also put the ball on the floor a little bit at the three.
Haslem does the dirty work. Rebounds like a fiend, hits mid-range jumpers with ease and is willing to guard anybody in the league.
That team has no weak links offensively. Every player has a skill that is NBA caliber, and Miller and Haslem will be getting the best looks of their careers, while not being asked to step outside of their comfort zones.
Then you have Bron and Wade guarding your two best perimeter players, while you figure out where to hide your 6’3″ point guard because there is no way in hell he’s guarding Wade, Bron or Miller.
I’m trying to see the weakness here, somebody enlighten me?
Wade can guard just about any point guard in the league. Lebron can guard any 2/3 in the league and Miller can guard whoever is weaker swingman. Bosh can guard the current crop of centers for limited minutes and haslem can guard most 4s and some fives.
    Where is the problem?

  • The D Train

There is no problem. This Heat juggernaut will most likely rank among the greatest teams ever. Look at the big three’s combined 4 Finals games won in 21 combined years. There is, undoubtedly, no stopping them. I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I would advise my team to just lay down. Why even try to compete with such a well-balanced, and star-studded squad?

  • c_cantrell

    ^D Train.. like the humor

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

So you have a problem with my points but you couldn’t be bothered with formulating a well-thought response and instead resorted to sarcasm?
Where did I call them the greatest ever?
Where did I had them a championship?
I pointed out that a crunch time lineup of Bosh, Bron, Wade, Haslem and Miller is as solid as you’ll find in the league.
If you disagree, name a better one.
Kobe, Gasol, Fisher, Odom and Artest?
KG, Rondo, Pierce, Allen and Perkins?
Duncan, Manu, Tony, McDyess and whoever?
    Dirk, Kidd, Haywood and whoever
Durant, Westbrook, Green, Thabo and Collison?
Which game closing lineup makes Miami’s lineup look horrible? Who don’t they matchup well against, and in turn cause matchup problems for?
They still have to play the games, but if I was a coach or GM I would like that closing lineup.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

Allenp: I agree that they are going to be a tough team, maybe not a lot of depth but will have a great core that can compete with anybody and come out favorably. What they don’t have is a relable center who can defend Dwight, or a healthy Yao or Bynum for more than limited minutes. Not saying that this will lead to thier demise as a team and cost them a ring, just saying that it’s a current weak spot that will have to be accounted for. As of now the only team that I can slow the heat significantly are the Lakers who if they get Bell. Kobe/Bell/Artest combo can guard LBJ and Wade well. Pau/Bynum can slow Bosh. The Lakers won’t stop them, but will give them problems.

  • http://pardonthedopeness.blogspot.com DP

We will see how it goes down when the ball tips off this fall. Miami is going to be nice period with the three horsemen so it doesn’t matter who the other two starters are. Miller is a nice addition though because he can still splash threes in your mouth all day long. Big Z will just be a body to get rebounds and occasional tip ins.

  • LA Huey

@Nupe, unless Yao swings conferences, he’s not of Miami’s concern. Valid points with Bynum and Dwight though.

  • T-Money

Bynum’s impact is somewhat overrated. He never finishes games. Pau Gasol is the crunch time center for the Lakers and Odom is at the 4. Nodoby is stopping Pau anyways but I’ve seen him get bothered by Z’s height. Dwight will not kill you by himself, Cleveland’s mistake 2 years ago was double teaming him hard and leaving the shooters. Truth is Dwight can not score more than 30 constantly over a 7-game series, he’s not built like that. You have Z, Magloire, Anthony and Howard. Use all of your fouls on him like Boston did. Voilà.

  • jdn41

lebron can head south but his mom still riding west

Just kind of hit me here… who are the other teams going to double team?

Why hasn’t the Heat talking to Allen Iverson leaked? They are in serious discussions, Michael Beasley’s dad said on twitter yesterday and Aston Kucher had sources that the Heat are in talks with AI. Im guessing they don’t want it to leak because it would have a “NEGATIVE” influence on teh locker room.

  • hobbes

Z is just a back up center, they need a true center to check D12, Bynum and Gasol to win it all.

  • kudos

Haslem is short. And he’s the heat’s best defender. That’s saying right there, that they aren’t going to win many close games. Bron, Wade, and Bosh all help-defenders. None of them are good one on one guarding someone. They’re offense may be great, but their defense is going to be at the bottom of the league.

  • http://dsjkflf.com Jukai

hobbes: Why do they need one to win it all?
kudos: That’s dumb. Lebron is a good iso defender, as is Miller. Neither of them are liabilities. What Wade and Bosh lack in man-to-man skills will more than make up by everyone helping the weakside. The Spurs run like that to make up for Parker/others. Their defense will not be a big deal.
People are nitpicking. Yeah, who is going to guard Howard when they go up against the magic, but WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO GUARD LEBRON/WADE/BOSH?!?! Lebron was constantly double teamed in the crunch when he played against Orlando two years ago… you think that’s gonna work this time?
The Lakers are the only team I can see beating the Heat. These guys easily take the east.

  • The D Train

No use arguing against Miami’s soon-to-be dynasty. All the experts have spoken. Big men and defense don’t matter when you can outscore your opponent. Phoenix and GS have proved that over the years. Haslem and Bosh are sufficient enough on defense that Lebron and Wade’s offensive fireworks (not to mention Bosh’s deadly mid-range game and Miller’s 3pt shooting) will overcome any sort of defensive or rebounding deficiencies Miami MAY experience. If you voice any sort of concern about Miami running away with the East, then you are just bitter that Lebron didn’t sign with your team.

Bron at the 1 will be a match-up nightmare. Wade can guard the opposing point guard, and Bron can guard the opposing 2 guard, but the 2 guard will not be able to do sh!t to Bron, and the opposing 1 guard will get owned by Wade. Heat are insanely good at this point.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Dwight Howard is “owning” nothing by himself. Sorry guys, if you think Dwight is going to singelhandedly win games for the Magic, one-on-one… Are we talking about Dwight Howard or are we talking about Yao Ming here?!

  • JoeMaMa

Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Mike Miller. Apparently these guys are all-of-a-sudden hot tickets, despite the fact that to continue his ancient career, Ilgauskas lures and kills small Lithuanian children for their delicate foot bones, and Mike Miller’s current claim to fame is the fact that he once had a pet monkey. They’re role players. Decent ones. But a title will come from James, Wade, and Delusional Centrepiece. (but thanks for the memories, Chris!)

  • T-Money

E: I think Z still has 2-3 years left in him if he wants to. Let’s be real, is he really slower than he was 5 years ago? Is that even possible? He’s still tall, he can still stick a jumper, he can still get tip ins. If I were Miami, I would start him even if he doesn’t play more than 20-25 minutes. He’s clearly more comfortable in that role and never really adapted to coming off the bench, he’s a rythmn player.

  • hoodsnake

What talents are we talking about?

  • The Duke

    Hurray, it’s the Miami Cavaliers.

  • BostonBaller

@Kap: Old garbage? Haslam could start on most teams, Big Z is more than servicable and so is J Howard (Big Z gets the last laugh on Cavs for last yrs drama) This should be interesting

  • BostonBaller

@allenp’s closing breakdown: I agree with your breakdown and the only potential problem that could arise would be chemistry concerning who is the alpha male when it comes to game winning shot taking. I’m sure Wade will defer in the start of the season but he better not make a habit of it or LBJ might think it will be that way all the time. No, I’m not bashing LBJ so save the venom. You have to beware of Bosh’s mentality in crunch time also, he does think he is a top tier star on the same level as Wade & LBJ. The other lineups you mentioned are nice too and of course I’m sticking with my C’s to come out of the East and win chip #18. I’m hoping they fizzle like Shaq, Kobe, K. Malone & Payton did in the playoffs. … My only question is..where the heck is Miami getting all of this cash? Are they selling their soles? When will riley start to coach? Why didn’t they all sign with the Clippers in the west? Can Miami solve the oil spill problem? Who will they sign next????

  • underdog

No such thing as loyalty in the L nowadays. I’m not saying there should be, because I can’t think with the head of a star athlete, but it’s kind of sad. I know winning a championship is important, but will anybody think Z a a better player if he wins one? I doubt that. What I’m trying to say here is, after all those injury in his early career, he should have stick to the Cavs.

  • http://Yahoo Shanoooooooo

I know Lebron is one of the most skilled, if not the most skilled player in the NBA. And I know he has more than enough talent to play the point but people….. THIS IS NOT 2K10. Lebron can’t and will not defend point guards. DRose ate his lunch the little he tried to defend him and he didn’t even want any peice of Rondo….

  • Tariq

I think that’s an awesome starting 5 (on paper), and I fail to see any glaring weaknesses. My questions regarding Miami are: 1- Will they get anything from their bench? and 2- Will there be any chemistry problems? Other than that, they look downright scary.

  • LA Huey

@JoeMaMa, I did not know that about Z. I’ve now become an even bigger fan of his.
And I don’t understand everyone’s doubts about Z. Dude’s game for the last few years has just been, be tall, stick open jumpers. Only Dwight serves as a problem and BETCATS’ squad showed a way to limit him.

  • dsleepy

is it just me or does anyone else think miami needs a lock-down perimeter defender? i mean offensively they’re good to go at this point. but lebron is a weakside help defender, and you def. don’t want dwade having to guard the premier scorers every time b/c he’d get tired. if they add one defensive-minded guard, and one banger center then we may see a new dynasty

  • WangChung

@dsleepy: Matt Barnes. He just gotta take less money.

  • http://tommyisvishuz.ning.com Tommy V.

Actually Big Z, UD and Miller are all essential pick ups if miami wants to be competitive. The only 1 out of the big 3 who has that killer instinct is Wade. UD is the type of player you need on a team like this. Miller shot 40+ percent from beyond the arc and Big Z is exactly what he is, big. For some reason, the laker bigs had an issue scoring over big z when they played cleveland last season. Can mario chalmers get some love tho

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

So, nobody thinks Wade is a good defender now? Despite the insane way he played two years ago when locked in and focused for the season, and how he showed the same zeal last year when focused?
And Lebron can’t defend man on man? WTH. Somebody better tell Paul Pierce, because I distinctly remember him getting locked up by Lebron, but exploding against “defensive specialists” like Matt Barnes and Michael Pietrus. Hell, Pierce had more good games against Ron Artest than he had against Lebron.
Haslem is a very good defender at the 4. He gave Dirk problems in 2006, something nobody else had been able to do in the playoffs that year. Bosh is above-average, Miller is average.
That’s pretty much par for the course in the NBA where I cannot think of a single team, not even Boston, where they are filled top to bottom with lockdown defenders. The issue is what scheme will be used and whether the team will buy in. I expect them to buy in on defense, use that as their calling card, and try to run on offense to end games quickly. Besides, even if the don’t play Miller, and instead go with Chalmers, they get even better on defense because Chalmers is a good defender.
Everybody has to play the games next year, but if you look at Miami’s potentially closing lineup and don’t see one of the best in the league, if not the best, then you clearly have on blinders.
