Zydrunas Ilgauskas Taking Talents to South Beach

The Heat are stockpiling assets rather quickly. Reports Brian Windhorst: “The Cavs had an offer for Z on the table. Agent Herb Rudoy says Ilgauskas has chosen to sign with Heat. Z hopes to return & be part of Cavs organization when his career is over.”

So, nobody thinks Wade is a good defender now? Despite the insane way he played two years ago when locked in and focused for the season, and how he showed the same zeal last year when focused?
And Lebron can’t defend man on man? WTH. Somebody better tell Paul Pierce, because I distinctly remember him getting locked up by Lebron, but exploding against “defensive specialists” like Matt Barnes and Michael Pietrus. Hell, Pierce had more good games against Ron Artest than he had against Lebron.
Haslem is a very good defender at the 4. He gave Dirk problems in 2006, something nobody else had been able to do in the playoffs that year. Bosh is above-average, Miller is average.
That’s pretty much par for the course in the NBA where I cannot think of a single team, not even Boston, where they are filled top to bottom with lockdown defenders. The issue is what scheme will be used and whether the team will buy in. I expect them to buy in on defense, use that as their calling card, and try to run on offense to end games quickly. Besides, even if the don’t play Miller, and instead go with Chalmers, they get even better on defense because Chalmers is a good defender.
Everybody has to play the games next year, but if you look at Miami’s potentially closing lineup and don’t see one of the best in the league, if not the best, then you clearly have on blinders.

Where is Karl Malone when you need him?
