Ben Wallace Re-signs With Pistons

We reported it a month ago, but now it’s official. Freep’s on the story: “Ben Wallace and the Detroit Pistons this morning agreed to a two-year contract that will pay the veteran center a little more than $1.9 million per season.Wallace said before the end of last season that he wanted to rest his body and see how he felt. As the summer went on, it was evident that president of basketball operations Joe Dumars wanted Wallace back. Wallace also wanted to stay with the team with which he has enjoyed his greatest success. He’ll also be able to help rookie big man Greg Monroe. Wallace, 35, appeared in 69 games last season, starting 67. He averaged 5.5 points, a team-high 8.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and a team-leading 1.2 blocks in 28.6 minutes per game. The 14-year veteran became the 17th player in NBA history to record 2,000 career blocked shots Feb. 2 at New Jersey.”

His free throw airballs were epic. Also, very funny how in shootaround before games he would use a medicine ball, or a giant basketball. Didnt help

Wow. The Pistons bucked the trend this summer of spending way too much on role players. This sounds just right to me. Good for all involved.

  • Cam Jones

@ LA Huey- Yeah they bucked that trend by doing it last year instead (Ben Gordon and Charlie V. Those guys are trailblazers in that respect

@Cam Jones, I guess I should have emphasized the whole “THIS summer” part. =P

Hmmm will we see some revitalisation then? Essentially they hae Ben Wallace, Tayshaun Prince and Rip Hamilton together – It seems like an eternity ago these guys were relevant.

    8.7 RPG for a 35 year old who’s not even 6’9″.
A great many “big men” should be ashamed of themselves. Amazing what effort and conditioning will do.

As I grew sick of hearing players guarentee wins during the playoffs and then heard owners guarentying – (spelling??) – championships in the off-season I decided that there should be a public appology for every failed guarentee. I believed that Ben Wallace should conduct the interview.

I love Ben a humble big man who didn’t have to open his mouth a to be noticed in the public’s eye this guys numbers do the talking. He’s been good his entire career even though he’s been undersized the whole time! Great seeing finish out in Deeeee-troit!
