Charles Barkley on LeBron James’ ‘Punk Moves’

Sir Charles has been going in on LeBron all summer long. He’s now asking for the top spot on James’ so-called enemies list: “Charles Barkley weighed in Wednesday on a recent Twitter statement by LeBron James. Barkley, a TNT analyst and former NBA  All-Star, said he hopes James remembers Barkley’s critical comments and called a couple of James’ more significant actions this summer ‘punk’ moves. ‘I heard about LeBron’s little tweet today that he’s remembering everybody who said anything bad about him,’ Barkley said Thursday on ESPN Radio 103.3 FM in Dallas/Fort Worth. ‘And he said ‘everybody.’ Well, I want him to make sure that he puts my name on that (list). I thought that his little one-hour special was a punk move. I thought them dancing around on the stage was a punk move, and I thought he should’ve stayed in Cleveland. Him joining Dwyane Wade’s team was very disappointing to me … That one-hour special, them jumping around on stage like punks, that wasn’t cool to me. From a basketball standpoint, I wish he had stayed in Cleveland, and if he takes that as criticism, so be it. He knows where I’ll be, I don’t run. I’m on TV every week, I’m easy to find.’”

Please if I hear that imbecile Skip Gayfull’s name on this site, I’ll personally wear all blue and go to the Jungles. That fool said the other day that Scottie Pip does not deserve to be a named among TOP-50 greatest players, that MJ made PIP in every way possible, and that MJ won those 6 chips by himself. He’s like the senile grandfather of every moronic MJ fan.

The Nupe: Yer describing the 80s. Was things bad for the league in the 80s?

  • Coney Islander

With all this LeBron talk it reminded me of something. Let’s think back to a person and a place. Kevin Garnett, Minnesota. How many titles would KG have won if he had not stayed on a team that just couldn’t get over the hump for years? A smart man learns from his mistakes, a wise man learns from the mistakes of others…

  • luv2ball

Didn’t chuck force a trade from Philly because they weren’t putting enough talent around him? Didn’t he also go to Houston to ride Clyde Drexler and Hakeems coattails?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

    You tell him Charles.

  • JTaylor21

The Philosopher, your comment at 4:47 pm is one of many reasons I’ve a deep respect and admiration for you, bra. You are the light in a immense darkness aka Laker/Kobe fans, a beacon of hope in an otherwise depressing world, and a model for up and comin laker fans that you can still be a laker fan and still have love for Bron. There’s hope at last for an otherwise hopeless/asinine fanbase.

  • http://Www.dimemag.com Royal

JTaylor….. Why do you think that every Laker fan hates Lebron and the Heat with a passion. I was a Laker fan before I could even spell basketball and I can’t wait to watch the Lebron,D-Wade,Bosh trio go to work.

  • flash

liked spaceship jays 2:36 comment. i wanted dwade to get help but not lebron type of help. it’s unfair having the two time mvp as your running mate since u r already DWYANE WADE! i’ll miss the dwade vs lbj matchups, and i really wanted to see them battle it out in the playoffs when their season is at stake. i wonder how wud that turnout??? ( i bet dwade wins by a heart :) )

  • JTaylor21

@Royal, I’m sorry that I offended u and placed you in that section but u can’t tell me that “ALMOST” every laker/kobe fan hates bron and now the heat in an uncontrollably fashion. If I walk up to every laker fan and ask them what they think about bron, I bet that 99 out of 100 people will say something vulgar or profane about him, it’s a fact. They hate dude, so I hate them back. In the words of that chappelle player-haters ball skit; Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate

  • http://fsdkjlf.com Jukai

JTaylor21: it’s a fact? You’ve done the math? You have the statistics? You can say it’s a fact with 100% certainty?

  • http://www.slamonline.com JL

i don’t get why people just can’t come to grips that lebron is basically an egotistical punk. he was praised his whole life (and deserved it), so that’s how he’s going to be. you don’t change that. he didn’t have the right guidance growing up to tell him to be real humble and take responsibility. he’s the best basketball player and supremely talented, but that doesn’t mean he has a perfect personality too! Just let him be. he’s not a god or anything.

  • JTaylor21

@Jukai, I’ve met and known countless laker/kobe fans and there’s only one or two that have even said anything remotely good about bron. I don’t have the exact stats and but from my experiences it’s a very high percentage of anti-lebron laker fans.

  • Jordan

I think LeBron better stay quite about this one. The Round Mound of Rebound isn’t someone you wanna spar with.

  • http://Www.lku.hf Darksaber

Resolve this on the court, boys. Not a game mind you, Chuck and LBJ should re-enact the fullcourt sprint Charles had with that old Ref back in the day. Winner gets to slap the loser 4 times in the face. Hard! (Round Mound isn’t allowed to use rollerblades)

I hope there are many alternate universes where LeBron stayed in Cleveland, went to NYK, went to the Nets, the Bulls and so on… and in each of those he is equally criticised for his decision… Oh yeah he’s loyal, but he’s stupid, cleveland didn’t get any better, and they have no cap room or tradeable assets to get better. NYK? oh what a greedy bastard he just wants the attention that NY will give him, and so he doesn’t have to play D with D’antoni’s system. Nets? Oh he’s just doing it because he’s on Jay Z’s nuts, they’re too young to be a championship squad and still need to add a few players, he won’t win. The Bulls? Good fit, but now he’ll NEVER get out of Jordan’s shadow. You see it was a lose lose lose lose situation. Miami was the least of all evils, at least he’ll win.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2010/08/charles-barkley-on-lebron-james-punk-moves/ Adam NZ

I don’t hope he’s criticised for criticisms sake, just to justify his decision to go to Miami. In all places he’s hated by somebody for his decision, but at least he’ll be happy in Miami, and isn’t that the most important thing of all?

  • bill breedley

Barkley managed to win 2 games in the finals on his own. Sidekick couldn’t even win 1. CB with 2 wins =1/2 champ. LBJ with 0 wins = chump.

  • T-Money

Jukai, I have no stats but Bron/Kobe is really an either-or thing. I know VERY FEW people who roll with both amongst my friends or the media (Lang?). Thems the breaks.

  • Conoro

Mark Twain reminded us that there are:

    1. Lies
    2. Damn lies
    3. Statistics

    —-

@Eboy: Charles Barkley can’t hear you, sir.

    @JTaylor21: Stay classy, champ.

  • Dre

Bill Breedly… that was totally stupid… u r complaining about winning 2 games. Barkley is not nearly as good as Lebron was… please… grow up.

  • Dre

Hey Spaceship… he was not too old when he first got there. He would dunk on u in a sec and put up stupid numbers but he was not the same 76er Barkley. That being said, it doesn’t matter if Chuck feels that way he is still playing himself because he tried to do the same thing.

What do you mean by all KGish? lol

  • Bryan

LeBronna did make punk moves. I’m glad someone called them out for the whole dancing around on stage thing (watch Bosh during that whole thing and try not to laugh at what a douchebag he is), what better person to call a spade a spade than Charles

  • http://kb24.com DreXnaW21

LOL love the criticism from Charles Barkley!!!

  • TP

The TV special WAS a punk move. So was the dancing. But he had no real obligation to stay in Cleveland. Also, Boston is still going to the Finals in 2011.

  • TP

    I’m also 100% with bakers’ dozen (12-13):

“I think it’d be ironic if LeBron and Wade both got injured this season and Bosh carried them alone to the championship. I’d root for them, then. ”

    Indeed.

  • Ronald

The TV show wasn’t a punk move. The whole point was to celebrate the signing! It would’ve been a punk move if they came to the city, went on stage, ignored everyone and answered everyone question with “Ball” and “Both sides played hard.” Or, if the welcome party was held in Cleveland.

  • beyjee

Jukai: “Were people in the 80s upset that Magic and Kareem were pairing up? Were people pissed that Kobe and Shaq were on the same team? Why is there hate now?”

this reasoning just ticks me off, these guys were drafted, they started young and got paired with dominant bigs, they flourished together and dominated some more when the bigs left. same goes for Duncan, Pippen, and even Wade that one year.

again, it’s not that they teamed up, it’s how they did it and what part of their careers.

    > I know for a fact

No you don’t. Learn to argue.

  • CHIEF

EBOY posts way to much stuff, remember the Loudest man in the room is the weakest man in the room. Hmm maybe LeBron can take some notes from that, Chuck however gets paid to speak his mind. Not sell shotty nikes.
Why doesn’t Lebron donate all the money from the special to the kids who have to sew his goddamn nikes?! Do some real charity work there you overpaid, overrated, underachieving highlight reel promoted dunker.

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

LeBron’s ego: “Chuck called me out? Wonder if I can smile myself out of this one. Awwwww yeeeeeeahh.”

  • Reedan

Chuck, shut da f#@% up! You spit on a little girl, that was a punk move back then, you jumped on the Dream & the Glide’s bandwagon in Houston just to get a ring, wasn’t that a punk move too? You can’t f#@%ing dance, that’s the only reason you couldn’t pull that punk move lol
I love you for the player you were and the “analyst”/entertainer you are … But sometimes you still go too far running your mouth, and that my friend is a punk move too. Let the new school do their thing their way!

  • The Philosopher

    Shout out @JTaylor21.

  • JD

Yeah how will LeBron avenge thsi by droping 50 on Charles Barkley?

  • http://www.threadsandkicks.com.au Eduardo

Chucks the best. Said what everybody else feels besides the people from Akron who got a free bike and Miami.

  • http://fasho.com Kobe

Chuck is right bout this one…

____BOTTOM LINE IS____ THE KNICKS WILL BE BETTER THAN THE HEAT BECAUSE THEY’RE A LOCK TO GET AN ELITE POINT GUARD IN THE NEAR FUTURE… THE HEAT HAVE NO PAYROLL FOR SUCH A PLAYER SO THEY ARE STUCK WIT SUB-PAR PGs AND FUTURE DRAFT PICKS WHO ARENT GONNA BE THAT SOLID BECAUSE THE HEAT WILL HAVE OVER 50 WINS EVERY SEASON, SO THEY’LL ALWAYS DRAFT LIKE 28TH… NOT TO MENTION THE HEAT HAD TO GIVE UP 2 FIRST ROUNDERS AS WELL… SO WHILE ‘BRON WADE AND BOSH ARE GOOD MAYBE EVEN GREAT TOGETHER… THE CEILING FOR POTENTIAL GROWTH IN THE FUTURE I MUST SAY ISNT VERY HIGH OUTSIDE OF THERE PERSONAL TALENTS…

  • Jeffrey Jackson

Charles is right and wrong. He is right on how Lebron James handle his business as a professional. Lebron was given a opportunity to make millions. Letting your former employer know before telling the nation was incorrect. Dancing on stage was not because they were celebrating the beginning of a new era. Only time will say where Lebron James will be in the future. Just to note Charles did get with other Rockets at the end of his career and well after his prime. Lebron James at this point in his career admitted he can’t do it alone. That was obvious with the decline in playoff wins over the years in Cleveland. It was time to move on.

  • lawlaw

some charity benefited from the money as a result of the decision.so if u have heart for disadvantaged pple u would appreciate what lebron did…rather than what he didnt do.

  • http://slamonline.com Mars

    hahaha…it’s haters galore for LeBron.

  • ballin

barkley was lazy and performed well under pressure. lebron is a workaholic and performs well not under pressure.

barkley screwed around happy with a fat check while lebron is serious business going for what money cant buy (because he got an obese check).

  • http://www.razbet.com/ Raz

Charles is always critical about Lebron because “probably” there’s a little bit on envy involved …
Too bad Chuck you’re too old for this …

  • Ron

Sir Chuck is an entertainer, don’t be too serious on his views, while he’s probably not serious neither. Surely he knows what “The King” is capable of, but Chuck’s just doing his job to stir things up.

  • levi

Chuck is right. What he did to his hometown team was a punk move. That’s why D Rose didn’t want him there in Chicago. Man, reigning Mvp’s don’t join other folks teams. Lebron is a great player but something is lacking in the old ticker. but anyway, If the heat are going to win it, they better do it now, because Chicago and OKC are not going anywere soon.

  • Bosha

What makes you think he cares what you have published. Your comments have been valued in my book, but when you come to “punk” remarks about LBJ…I don’t like..Whatever he did, it is over. He knows it should have been done differently but too late, enough already. Look at what he has had to deal with since…could you stand that kind of pressure and still be an excellent athlete..Let everyone play the game and who plays the best, wins.

This is just petty hate from a guy who never exceeded his limitations as a player. If Lebron retires without a ring after 15 seasons
