  could not do it in Cleveland. The team he took to the finals (can you name the starting 5?) was of little support. Chicago was smart, drafted well by getting Scotty which gave them a nucleus from which to build on. They added Paxson, Grant, Hodges, Harper, Kukoc and others as role players with heart that could get the job done so Mike could get rest and come in fresh. Did LeBron ever get that?

  Both of y’all made good points about the playground argument. That’s how I saw it from the jump, and how I explained with when the news came out before even reading what Simmons wrote.
  But, then I reconsidered that while I thought it would be more competitive to go a different route, I undestood the benefits of doing it the other way as well. Plus, it’s not my life. What makes me happy, doesn’t make Lebron happy, and really shouldn’t have any bearing on how he makes life decisions. Unfortunately, that’s the dynamic that gets played up in sports. Fans are invested in teams and players and that’s going to create tension because any time you’re invested in someone you take their decisions personally. You feel that they should consider your feelings and well being, and honestly that’s not hte reality of the sports landscape. Fans have been sold a dream, and that’s why they’re angry.

On another note, I pray that there is somebody out there that’s even remotely involved with Lebron reading these posts… Lebron, FIRE YOUR TEAM. NOW. The amount of posts on this site alone that spoke to how this situation could have been handled better from start til’ now is ASTRONOMICAL. I can recall that the media had a lot of questions concerning Lebron’s decision to fire his agent for his friends to take over his PR/business matters way back when……………………….. WA’LA!   My problem with the whole situation is the blatant double standards. If Lebron would of stayed in Cleveland than the majority of people wouldn’t have called the “Decision” self promotion, but since he decided to leave Cleveland all of a sudden he’s a prima donna and no one takes into account that millions of people saw the telecast and the revenues from that telecast were donated. If Lebron would of gone to New York along with Amare and they would of had a celebration then it would of been viewed as the Knicks rejoicing at a well constructed plan going into fruition but since it happened in Miami everyone is frowning at it. The best comments on here are from people who call things for what they are. Yes, everyone can have an opinion but let that opinion be unbiased. I’m a Heat fan (so i’m trying to be as unbiased as I can) and I was ecstatic when Bosh said he was joining Wade and yes I rejoiced like a mothaf**** when I heard Lebron was coming as well but would I have gotten mad if he went to the Knicks, stayed in Cleveland or went on to play overseas? No, because he is a grown man and has the right to choose where he wants to play. At the end of the day i still love Charles Barkley because of his personality and what he brings to NBA commentating. People forget that Charles gets paid to comment on the NBA and it’s players so let him do his job he always manages to keep viewers entertained.

  I agree with Barkley that LeBron leaving Cleveland was disapointing. I also agree with his thoughts about the 1 hour special and how he jumped around on stage at the celebration (I would not use “punk move” to describe the latter, but I get his point). Part of what I like about Barkely is that he always speaks his mind and doesn’t try to find ‘soft’ ways of saying things. This is also what I don’t like about Barkley because this same ‘honest truth’ can make him sound bitter or just too critical. However, he is very consistent in his style regardless if he’s talking about himself, a superstar or a scrub player. This is why I respect his opinions and views (which I don’t always agree with). Having a ring or not doesn’t give him any more/less credibility than anybody else. I would bet that him, MJ and several others have talked about LeBron’s decision etc. and that they feel very similarly about it. The difference is Barkley doesn’t have a problem going on public record with his thoughts (again could be a good or bad trait). Regardless, it doesn’t make since for Eboy or anybody else to questions Barkleys motives or call him bitter, as he was like this as a player in his prime and has shown consistent – although sometimes disturbing – critiques of anybody at any level of the game.

  I’m hyped for the next season. It has the potential to be epic. I mean, Bron, Wade and Bosh pissed off and balling hard on both ends has the potential to be outstanding basketball. The general hate, and how Bron handles it, is great for seeing his true mental toughness.
  Then you have the sideplot of owners now contemplating changing the way free agency operates because players exercised their autonomy in a very powerful way, and well it’s compelling.
  I want to see what happens on the court next year since several contenders got stronger, and we have Miami as a possible superteam. I want to see if Wade and Bron turn into Scottie and MJ Part Deaux.
  I’m very excited for the season and it’s only August.

  The professional athlete of 2010 is in no way similar to those that played in the 50′s, 60′s, 70′s, 80′s and 90′s. This is what is lost in all of this…..these guys (probably close to 95%) of most modern athlete’s don’t have the same “makeup” the old school guys did. That applies to every sport, not just basketball. You ARE talking about BRANDS nowadays (whether, we, as fans) like that or not. It’s how it is. Guys like Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin, Joe Namath, Brian Bosworth, Magic Johnson, Reggie Jackson………. they were all self-promotion machines at their particular times in their prospective sports, but again, their’s were the slimmest minority, by no means the norm at those particular times.

  Chuck tried to justify his own attempts to “team up” later in life by saying he was old, and on the downside of his career when he joined up with Pippen and the Dream.
  The real problem was that when he was drafted and played with Dr. J and Moses Malone, he was too lazy and idiotic to make it work.
  Then he got traded to Phoenix with KJ, and couldn’t get over the hump.
  Finally he ran to Houston with the Dream but didn’t play the pick and roll properly and they lost on Stockton’s last second shot. And, he didn’t stay in shape and blew out his achilles and knee.
  And then considered jumping on Jordan’s nuts to come back in Washington.
  So, yeah, Charles doesn’t have much room to talk.

It would be like watching 3/5ths of the olympic team all over again. Remember how people used to wake up real early in the morning or stay until the sun came out at night just for a chance at seeing the redeem team play. That’s the same kind of passion and commitment I’ll show when the season starts; I’ll stop whatever I’m doing; whether it’s plowing a skeezer, watching my son, or even partying with the homies just to watch these guys play.   O.k., The Heat are NOT a lock to win it all next year – the Lakers match up pretty well. However I would not bet against the Heat either. It’s almost certain they will win in the next 1-3 years, and even once LeBron has a ring or two, his naysayers will be able to ‘prove’ their point that LeBron took the ‘easy way out’. As a fan, I’ll be watching the Heat every chance I get, beacuse it will be great, possiblty historic basketball. However having a few good teams in the League (compounded in CP3 and Melo go to NYC), is not necessarily good for the League. Yes, we’ll talk about the great teams more, but who’s going to be watching all the ‘other’ teams? Even if you contract the league by 2-4 teams, there still aren’t enough stars to go around to keep parity and/or interest across the league. If 3/4 of the teams lose money, how can the league be considered healthy? LBJ/Bosh/Wade and all the other FA excercised their right and chose. That’s a sign that times have changed. Not sure its a good change for the league, but it’s GREAT for the Heat and Heat fans. Just don’t know how long the league can sustain this, and in the long run may hurt the NBA and make things worse for NBA fans across the US and Canada.

  i don’t get why people just can’t come to grips that lebron is basically an egotistical punk. he was praised his whole life (and deserved it), so that’s how he’s going to be. you don’t change that. he didn’t have the right guidance growing up to tell him to be real humble and take responsibility. he’s the best basketball player and supremely talented, but that doesn’t mean he has a perfect personality too! Just let him be. he’s not a god or anything.

  @Jukai, I’ve met and known countless laker/kobe fans and there’s only one or two that have even said anything remotely good about bron. I don’t have the exact stats and but from my experiences it’s a very high percentage of anti-lebron laker fans.

  I hope there are many alternate universes where LeBron stayed in Cleveland, went to NYK, went to the Nets, the Bulls and so on… and in each of those he is equally criticised for his decision… Oh yeah he’s loyal, but he’s stupid, cleveland didn’t get any better, and they have no cap room or tradeable assets to get better. NYK? oh what a greedy bastard he just wants the attention that NY will give him, and so he doesn’t have to play D with D’antoni’s system. Nets? Oh he’s just doing it because he’s on Jay Z’s nuts, they’re too young to be a championship squad and still need to add a few players, he won’t win. The Bulls? Good fit, but now he’ll NEVER get out of Jordan’s shadow. You see it was a lose lose lose lose situation. Miami was the least of all evils, at least he’ll win.

Why is there hate now?” this reasoning just ticks me off, these guys were drafted, they started young and got paired with dominant bigs, they flourished together and dominated some more when the bigs left. same goes for Duncan, Pippen, and even Wade that one year. again, it’s not that they teamed up, it’s how they did it and what part of their careers.

  Charles is right and wrong. He is right on how Lebron James handle his business as a professional. Lebron was given a opportunity to make millions. Letting your former employer know before telling the nation was incorrect. Dancing on stage was not because they were celebrating the beginning of a new era. Only time will say where Lebron James will be in the future. Just to note Charles did get with other Rockets at the end of his career and well after his prime. Lebron James at this point in his career admitted he can’t do it alone. That was obvious with the decline in playoff wins over the years in Cleveland. It was time to move on.
