Knicks Offer Chandler For Fernandez

And still Blazers GM Rich Cho continues to hold out for more. From ESPN‘s Chris Sheridan: “The Knicks are among the teams trying to acquire the Spanish shooting guard, and they have offered Wilson Chandler. Other offers on the table include the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls each offering a No. 1 draft pick in 2011, a league source told ESPN.com. [...] New Portland general manager Rich Cho is simply trying to scour the league for the best offer he can find, and something more appealing than Chandler or a pick that’ll probably fall in the mid-20s could become available between now and the start of training camp. Since the Knicks did not have a first-round pick in 2010, they are prohibited under league rules from offering their 2011 pick (because teams are not allowed to go consecutive years without having a No. 1 pick, something known as the Ted Stepian rule).”

wow the knicks just get stupider and stupider

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I mean, is this supposed to be a good deal for the Knicks?
The Blazers don’t really need another swingman, so it doesn’t make sense for them to take Chandler. But, I can’t believe the Knicks really believe that Rudy is a better player than Chandler. Chandler’s biggest problem is consistency, but other than that, dude has talent.

Chandler for Rudy? sure! portland please do it!

  • The Philosopher

Well, I guess Rudy is worth more than a second round pick. lol.

  • Hursty

What?!? That’s insane by NY obviously.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Wow. If I was Portland I’d take Chandler in a heartbeat.

  • george w. buckets

Not sure why Portland would refuse this deal… adding chandler to their roster just makes this team a whole lot deeper, even though it would be interesting to see how the distribute the minutes. I’m thinking Portland might want another big instead of a wing.

  • tavoris

Portland needs to pull the trigger on this deal ASAP. Chandler is EXACTLY what they need at the 3. A MUCH BETTER FIT than the SF’s they’ve been pursuing the last 3 seasons.

    fjkdlsajf;ldkajsfkl;djas;lfdjsa;klfdjsalkfdjskla;lds…..DONNIE C’MON.

  • tavoris

The Knicks also think Gallinari is the best shooter in the world. Rudy would probably be happy in NY-until he has a bad game.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

i would seriously do that than get nothing at all since Rudy aint gonna play in Portland for sure.. Chandler doesnt need to start, he could be great from the bench. they might have a logjam of swingman, but they could certainly have another asset in future deals..

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

this might be good for Rudy too.. Fresh start, NY, D’antoni, run n gun, 3 pointers.. what’s not to like?

  • unrel

rudy might be okay in NY.. jack up 3s.. no d.. 7 seconds or less.. he doesn’t even have to cross the half court line on d.. and get within the 3pt line on offense..

  • funkdoc

I think this deal may be better for the Knicks than you think. I mean, they already have Azebuike,Gallinari, Randolph en Walker. Okay, Chandler is probably more talented than Rudy, but he is inconsistent and not the best shooter. With Amara drawing double teams the Knicks can be deadly with Gallinari en Fernandez at 3.

As far as the Knicks defense… :D

Expect the Knicks to make a lot of points but lose a lot of games next season.

  • Coney Islander

I’m not big on this trade as a Knick fan AT ALL!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Chandler is a better all-around player, Rudy is a better shooter. Rather, he was his rookie year. Last year he was straight trash.
Portland needs bigs, which is why the probably turned this down, or they are turned off by Chandler’s drug arrest and inconsistency.
Man, Gallo, Amare and Rudy on the floor at the same time would have rivaled the softness in Toronto’s starting five.

Maybe the Blazers should inquire trading someone like vujacic and a draft pick for Rudy, and then Fernandez while be the happiest spaniard in the US. (Since all his issues started when they traded away his buddy Sergio Rodriguez). If he were playing with Gasol I will guarantee you he’d stop complaining….

  • Mr. Robinson

    I’ll jab rudy.

  • http://www.backiron.com brian

why does everyone think this is a bad deal for the knicks? a scoring 2 is probably their major lineup deficiency at this point? plus the idea of rudy, unleashed, under d’antoni in ny…it would be something to see.

  • http://www.backiron.com brian

also, chandler can’t shoot like rudy can. just saying.

  • KnicksFan

@AllenP explain to me how in the hell Gallo is soft???? The kid asked to mark Melo and he is confident as they come. Don’t assume cause he is from Europe he cant play hard

  • 6marjons

this deal fell out of heaven

  • Ryan D

    WHYYYYYYYYYY

  • Kendo

Those of you saying that this is a good trade for the Knicks are forgetting that Rudy sucks.

  • dNYCe

    Agreed, Coney Islander!

  • chrisneww

Portland WTF why arent they doing this?? Chandler is perfect for portland and rudy would do great in NY

  • http://www.phonetobuy.com LeoneL

Make it happen! Being a Flip growing up watching “Daboy” starring on movies like Baby Ama and being a fan of the Knicks, I would so love to have Rudy Fernandez on MY team!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

WHAT THE F*CK. NO KNICKS!!! WHAT THE F*CK.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Chandler’s midrange game sh!ts on Rudy’s. Fernandez is alright but Chandler is one of the only unmovable pieces in New York. Or should be. Knicks management deserves a SMH moment.

  • KCremin14

I may be missing something here but is there not on obvious reason why the Knicks want Rudy? They were looking to trade for Ricky Rubios rights all throught ’09. Is this not possibly a way to get Ricky? Those two played together in Badalona and linked up all the time. And yeah im Irish, so i have actually watched Badalona play alot. Im not just going on Youtube highlights here. They were known for being a duo in Badalona. Thats just what i thought when i first read the headline.

  • cool j

Hey Allen- with Bosh gone Toronto Raps won’t be as soft any more…

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Knicksfan
He doesn’t like contact. I once watched him shoot more three pointers than two pointers in a game despite being 6’10′. And on defense, both he and Amare are softer than cotton.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    CoolJ
If Barganani and Calederon are starting, yes they will.
Last year though, they had those two, and Hedo, and Bosh. Softest starting five in the league, easy.

  • Nyfan11

Plus chandlers stat is inflAted under dantonis system. He is a good slasher/finisher and a decent shooter, but we need a good shooter for this system to work. Plus Rudy is a good slasher also and also faster

  • MusketeerX

Stupid Knicks. What the hella re you thinking…

  • hammer

    @c_cantrell 12:09 comment: uhhh..stupider is not a word u know. Just sayin…

  • Ryan Capel

Well the Knicks are gonna be bad anyway. So whichever way they go they will still be losers. Most likely Amare Stoudamire will require more surgery on his knees and Curry won’t be able to help.

I’d say they Bulls get Fernandez for next year’s number 1.

    Ryan Carpel

  • Ryan Capel

Oh year they Daniel Gallenari looks like a true baby out on the court that can’t dribble. He doesn’t even belong on the court for more than five minutes a game. I’d say trade his stiff self.

  • http://twitter.com/queerballs dma

LOL @ everybody thinking Rudy in NY/SSOL offense would be good. The same thing was said about Sergio Rodriguez and look at it now.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Knicks are stupid even offering this trade. Wilson Chandler is a better player, PERIOD. F*cking management still sucks.

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

The fu(k is this sh!t? They try and re-hire Isiah and stuff like this happens. The magic touch is magic.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

    lol @ Leonel

  • http://www.acb.com Alan

tired of this… he’s european and as usual he gets trashed just because of that IMO… Rudy is really good, and still young, he has leaded teams to titles in Spain, won’t say he can carry a team in the NBA, but dude should recieve more love from coach, and thus far he hasn’t… shame on mcmillan… he should be a starter, specially in a team like NY, and with just one whole season of confidence and good load of minutes, all of you people would be greatly surprised…. but this is like in the dunk contest, no way he had a chance vs the black, american and hiper-atletic dunkers the judges wanted in the final… this is just sad… LOL
