Stephenson Speaks On Allegations

While rocking a No. 6 Pacers jersey in Tarrytown, NY, while posing for photos that will appear on his rookie card, Lance Stephenson spoke briefly about his recent trouble. The AP has more: “Though he has not spoken to anyone from the Indiana Pacers, Lance Stephenson is well aware of Larry Bird’s disappointment with his arrest. Stephenson says he heard about Bird’s strongly worded statement that was critical of his actions and plans to speak to the Pacers president. ‘I’m just going to try to stay focused,’ Stephenson said Tuesday at the New York Knicks’ training facility, where he joined other rookies getting photographed for their Panini trading cards. ‘I’m going to talk to him, see how he feels about it and I’m going to move forward from it.’ Stephenson, 19, was arrested Sunday in New York on assault, menacing and harassment charges. Prosecutors said the Pacers’ draft pick pushed his girlfriend down a flight of stairs, then grabbed her and hit her head on the bottom step. On Monday, Bird called the arrest ‘very disappointing to the Pacers franchise and to me personally.’”

Somebody introduce this guy to Roger Huerta.

  • ConeyIslander

Arrested before playing 1 NBA game, this man is OFFICIALLY a PACER!

  • JoeMaMa

So he allegedly threw her down stairs, and then banged her head on a step. If it comes out well for him, then good. If not, this guy should never see the league. The league doesn’t want/need 2nd round rookies causing them negative PR. Non guilty: go Lance! Guilty: Lance, go to jail.

  • Fat Joe

    lance stephenson is officially FAT

  • Knowsitall

Lance will be working at Dr. Jays on 125th next year

  • Tupack Shakur

Pushed her down the stairs and THEN hit her head on a step? What kind of person isn’t horrified by the fact that they pushed someone down the stairs, in a moment of anger or not?

    ^some crazy crazies.

  • Ali

Damn shame…Where are these guys advisors, agents, protectors, family members. After the rape alegations we would all think this kids would put 100% into ballin’, walk on egg shells, and stear clear of the law. Some fools just belong in jail, no matter what their particular talent is. No excuse for his actions.

  • newzealanderinlondon

apparently his girlfriend dropped the N-bomb

  • Overtime

You’ve just got into the NBA, get your head on straight.
You have to feel for Larry sometimes, hes trying to get decent talent (which Lance undoubtedly is) but they go and screw up time nd time again

  • Ali

‘very disappointing to the Pacers franchise and to me personally.’” Coming from a new employer, that statement is not a good look. I could understand if this was his first offense, maybe people would cut him some slack and get all the facts first but after hearing about the rape thing for a few years back and now this, something aint right with this kid. Toss him in the clink for a little while!

  • Ali

Thank you Overtime. Let me or you do something like this. We’d be in the clink right now awaiting a date to appear before the judge. No Bail! Bird rip that $700K check up and cut his a**.

  • WangChung

Seems like when athletes don’t say anything relevant, they often fall back on the good ol’ “I’m trying to stay focused”. What the hell is that supposed to mean anyway?

  • vtrobot

“see how he feels about it”. let me save you the trouble, dude, larry’s not f*cking stoked. 2nd what Tupack Shakur said. pushing someone down a flight of stairs can do more damage than banging their head against the stairs (which can also do a lot). she dropped the N-bomb. dude’s ONLY 19. who f*cking cares? f*ck this kid. the league doesn’t need you. go do whatever ruben patterson is doing these days.

instead of telling the press that you’re going to talk to the organization, why don’t you pick up the phone and actually do it? guarantee that you calling them and talking about it is better than them getting all the info from the internet.

  • T-Money

Inexcusable, I don’t care what she said. Freaking moron, they should cut his -ss. No need to put up with this for a 2nd rounder.

  • NAS

@Ali @T-Money definetly in agreement; no need to put up with this shit; cut his ass and he can go play in the polish league and see how good he had it in the NBA

  • The Philosopher

    Better him than me.

Dude is young and apparently done somethig pretty horrific. He obviously has issues and needs help. Regardless of the outcome of the investigation and potential trial, I hope he gets some kind of long-term counseling. Not just a fine/suspension (which is very likely). I believe in innocent until proven guilty but he doesn’t help his case by just saying he’s going to stay focused. If I were being ‘falsely’ accused of something like this I’d be making sure to say “I’m innocent” or at the least the often-used “I’m looking forward to all the facts coming out…”. When all he has to say is that he’s going to talke to Bird to see how he feels about it etc, makes it seem like he’s guilty and basically just hoping the punishment isn’t too bad.

  • The Philosopher

He could have easily had a “body”.
    Just like that.

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling chiqo

the pacers were pissed at stephen jackson for shooting in the air after someone drove a car at him. something tells me they won’t care what she allegedly called him.

Actually, domestic battery charges don’t carry bonds that are that high, and I’ve seen cats bond out or just be released within a day after choking or cutting their girlfriends.
I don’t think Lance is getting special treatment because he’s out of jail. He posted bond, that’s what’s allowed under the law. In most states even if you get arrested for murder, you can get bond, at least if its second-degree murder. Hell, where I live, the bond for r**e is only $25,000.

The Philospher speaks the truth. Could have been much worse

  • Rusty

How is this muppet in the L?

  • Robb

    is his girlfriend from Detroit?

  • http://sfjdkldsfl.com Jukai

You know, I don’t often say this… but if this dude really did do what I read, I’d cut him. I really would. Isn’t Larry the guy who traded his entire team away to get some scrubs just cause that entire team were trouble makers? C’mon… get rid of this cat.
