Udonis Haslem Pulled Over, Arrested

It’s been a topsy-turvy summer for Udonis Haslem. On the “topsy” side, he’s re-upped with the Heat, and he’ll be contending for a championship this season. On the “turvy” side, his mother passed away, and, as of yesterday he’s been pulled over and found to have weed in his car, as the AP reports:

“Heat forward Udonis Haslem was arrested Sunday for possession of marijuana following a traffic stop in Miami-Dade County.

Haslem, 30, was stopped around 3:05 p.m. going eastbound on the Gratigny Parkway because of speeding, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky said. Haslem was also charged with illegal window tint, Wysocky said.

A passenger in Haslem’s 2008 Mercedes, Antwain Fleming, was also charged with possession. Both were being transported to Miami-Dade County Jail for processing. Corrections officials said neither had been added to the county system as of early Sunday evening.

‘During the traffic stop the trooper smelled an odor of marijuana from within the vehicle,’ Wysocky wrote in a press release. ‘After the subsequent search, Mr. Haslem and Mr. Fleming were placed under arrest.’

    UD….you fuc*ing dummy.

  • Overtime

This is a shame, Haslem is a hard-working guy who just wants to win, I always thought he was good role-model, showing you can be successful without being a star etc

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I don’t know why, at this point in his career, U would be tied into cats like the passenger, unless he’s just so into the particular lifestyle that he can’t get out of it.

I’ve heard for years about UD’s habit of choice….this is not surprising. What’s surprising is that you can’t just enjoy it in your own home so as it doesn’t affect you, your career, etc.

Very sad. We go from Beasley being hyper-criticized to now what? Will the organization reprimand him?

What’s worse, a 20 year old who is still learning about the game of life and being caught up in it or a 30 year old dude, a veteran of 7 seasons, still not able to get his mind right enough to keep his public self out of the potential dangers of having hanger-ons drag you down. This is not a Lebronish-PR nightmare where your handlers are horrible businessman. This has the potential for jail time. Creating an hour-long tv special doesn’t get you a set of cuffs.

    I’m so frustrated right now.

    Dude pissed me off.

  • JoeMaMa

Brutal…losing his mother must’ve really thrown him. I’m not saying it’s why he got busted; that’d be stupid. I just hope he mans up, gets good counsel, and gets back to grieve with his family. He’s got a bright future with this team and his contract; hopefully he gets through this.

  • neaorin

    Legalize it already.

I bet you Haslem had that icky sticky Crippy.

    @neaorin That’s real talk.

Driving big cars, spending 20s and 10s, and you wanna grow up to be just like them. Athletes seem to never learn.

  • Ali

Bad decision on his part. We all make em’ at some point in our lives. Just to bad it’s at a time when the Heat really need him for his veteran leadership.
You don’t do this type of shi* in Dade Co., he shoulda known better.

Man, just imagine the cotton mouth Udonis Haslem had in the back of that police car, thinking about Riles gettin’ that call. Free Haslem!

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

Do it at home, guys! Do it at home. It’s just not worth it to get busted for weed, of all things. I agree it should be legalized, but it ain’t right now. So, just do it at home, then go hang out. Damn.

  • snoopy

    how much did he have??

  • T-Money

Um… even if were legalized, you still wouldn’t be able to get high behind the wheel. It’s as stupid and dangerous as drinking and driving. I’m always amazed that people find it okay to smoke pot and drive. Not a good look, UD.

  • http://Badnewzb8ller Badnewzballer

Haha what an idiot! Dude had a lot of weed in that car too.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Man, damn near everybody in the league smokes weed. Only the stupid ones get caught.

    @Allenp: lol

Do it at home. Cheryl, it’s really that simple. :)

  • Fat Lever

Seriously? Dude’s 30, and he’s still making these types of mistakes? Eboy hit it earlier. SuperCoolBeas is still a young buck. Haslem is supposed to be a mature adult, able to know right from wrong. All I know is this; if I’m getting millions of dollars to stay in shape, be a good role model/citizen, and play a game I play for free, I’m not doing a d@mn thing to jeopardize it.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

It doesn’t matter, Haslem has money he will get off. So he will continue to do it anyway and if he wasn’t speeding he would be puffing right now, so its no big deal, he will get off. BOOK IT!!!

  • http://jayemmbee.blogspot.com/ ClutchPerformer

    Udonis… smh

  • C.A

If the concept of playing on what is heralded as one of the most exciting teams in NBA history doesn’t make him already ‘high’, then this guy is a loser.

Winning an NBA title, the ultimate high? Apparently not.
Drugs are for losers, I mean does he not get enough enjoyment out of his normal life as basketball player, without them?

  • vtrobot

I am shocked and saddened by this news. I never thought a pro athlete would do this. I hope that the rumors of them dating models aren’t also true. Alcohol is far more dangerous than weed. Especially when mixing either with driving. Still, as everyone is saying, do it at home unless you’re OK with the fact that the current (ridiculous) laws might seriously mess up your life/livelihood.

  • T-Money

Co-sign C.A. I don’t have any problems with weed from a morality standpoint, I just think that drugs are for losers. / FYI – His boy took the hit and said the weed was his. Of couse.

  • http://shinefluid@aol.com CHI-TOWN SAID IT JOE

lol watch they try to spin it off like it was his friends weed lol

  • total scrotal implosion

In the story on nbadotcom it says he was going 18 over. And it says passenger copped to the herb. Says hes charged with misd under 20 grams. But ud is charged with felony over 20 grams and paraph charges. How is that possible? There was only one bag. Since ud said he knew nothn and pass copped to it, he will get off

  • total scrotal implosion

WARNING!!! Cigarette smoking is dangerous, a hazard to your health. Does that mean anything to you? …. Legalize it and I will advertize it

  • Coney Islander

Why it’s still illegal is pretty stupid, why it’s still seen in the group of REAL DRUGS like crack, coke, heroine is beyond me! Not saying their arent health risks because everything that goes into the body will cause an effect but tobacco and alcohol have killed far more people than weed. It’s time to legalize it.

  • Fat Lever

I bet those pigs that pulled him over felt so self-satisfied with themselves pulling over a black man in a mercedes with tinted windows driving a little over the speed limit and probally illegally searching his car…just goes 2 show u even if u in a benz ur still a ninja in a coupe…pathetic

  • total scrotal implosion

Fat lever is now officially a short bus rider, ud was going 18 over, dummy. I bet u think they pulled over tyreke just cuz hes black.

  • http://fsdkjlf.com Jukai

Let’s legalize cocaine and meth too!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

  • http://fsdkjlf.com Jukai

Everyone who is typing “LEGALIZE IT” in all caps must be high themselves… this dude was driving AND smoking it. Which would be illegal anyway, even if it was legalized.
Stop smoking everyday, retain some braincells so you can understand what was really happening. Dude could have killed someone by driving and smoking. The end. F this dumb ‘legalize it’ nonsense. This is the exact reason why we SHOULDN’T legalize it… cause dumb twits like the peeps on this comment section think it’s okay to smoke a joint or two and take a nice drive.

  • Fat Lever

That second fat lever comment wasn’t me, the real Fat. Seriously Slam, fix this ish!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    That’s bad logic.
‘Legalize it” has nothing to do with smoking and driving.
If that’s your logic, it’s time to go back to prohibition, right? Cause we legalized alcohol and now folks are drinking and driving every single day.

You can legalize weed and still retain the same laws that are in place for drinking and driving. If they can develop a breath test for cancer, they can develop something for weed.

But, as folks noted, dude was speeding, and the cops decided to search his car based on the “aroma of weed” contention. Now, you would think that if the aroma was strong, the cops wouldn’t have had any problems locating the weed, but according to the story it took them some time to find it in a bad. they didn’t find any burning joints, didn’t see them toss anything from the vehicle. So, where did the weed smell come from? Seems strange that the find one amount of weed, but then issue two different charges, right? If they were going to book them, they sould have booked them with the same thing since neither of them was actually found in physical possession of the drugs. If they are sharing the bag, they should be sharing the charge, right? And if they’re not sharing, then only one of them should have been booked, right?
    Sounds fishy.

  • hoodsnake

Folks would have attacked LeBron with a machete Jason-style if it was the king but cos its a model citizen its “legalize don’t criticize”…double standards

  • http://www.yougotdunkedon.com LilKDub503

I got no problem with him having weed, I’d bet half the NBA smokes, including the coaches. It’s just he’s driving and speeding-that’s so dumb.

  • Fat Lever

i’m just sayn if it was Jason Kapono they woulda let him off on a warning…damn pigs

  • Fat Lever

i bet while they were pulling UD over some1 was getting mugged on the otherside of the street…damn crooked cops

  • total scrotal implosion

Allenp, they could have been smoking earlier, and scent was coming off their clothes. If u know the scent, u can tell when its around even a lil bit. But, the friend being charged with under 20 grams misd, and ud being charged over 20 grams felony, and paraph charges seems very strange.

  • JTaylor21

I still can believe that there’s countless ads on tv having to do with alcohol which actually kills tens of thousands of people each year while there’s none that advertise mary jane. I haven’t heard of one person dying from smoking weed, not one. So how come the make so a big hoopla over it. I would say race but over sensitive people on here will start crying a river so I won’t go there. Also fu*k pigs and piglets.

  • total scrotal implosion

Cigarettes contain arsenic, rat poison and dozens of other horribly deadly chemicals. Even second hand smoke has detrimental affects on health. People die every day from smoking cigarettes. Same with alcohol. How many people die every day from drunk drivers? How much domestic abuse has alcohol caused/contributed to? People abuse presription drugs every day. Why is herb illegal? They say its a gateway drug, haha such bs. Sure, smoking it is bad for your lungs, but it can be baked into foods or used in a vaporizer with zero bad affects on health. Its industrial applicantions are known and very effective. Herb is more efficient than cotton, its oil has dozens of uses. It cures a few diseases and helps many others. Where does the vast majority of all medicine have its roots? The jungle, nature. Jah provide.

  • total scrotal implosion

Here is why ‘they’ want to keep it illegal and call it all forms of dangerous and abusive names: it is good for people. Its simple. Cigarettes and alcohol are very bad for people. Sure, alcohol, in moderation can be fun, but it still has bad affects on health. Not everyone is an angry drunk. That 450lb amazon uggo and splitting headache the next morning will make one swear off the sauce, but still go back. …. Herb is natural, it is everything pertaining to the upliftment of the mind of man, to relax the mind, to motivate inspiration within the mind of man. marijuana is a girl from cuba, ganja is a bird in australia, I smoke herb. So, ‘they’ want to keep people down, eat wacarnolds, watch american idle, go shopping for siht you dont need and cant afford. They want to sucker the people into their world, watch their news, read what they tell you, think what they tell you, buy what they tell you, vote when they say. Bring you into their ‘modern’ world. Time gliding on, hear the voice of ethiopia

  • Ali Saadat

Athletes have all the money in the world, fame, and a bunch of other things but they still do drugs knowing they’ve got everything to lose.

  • http://fsdkjlf.com Jukai

Allenp: First off, I’ve thrown weed out of a car before the cops have pulled us over, cops never saw. I’m sure you’ve done that too, you were a kid once. That’s bad logic on your part. If the car smelled of week, chances are dudes were smoking in their car.
Secondly, my logic wasn’t that if we legalize smoking, people are gonna drive and smoke PER SAY… but the mindset that is prevalent in, well, nearly every smoker in the world is that it’s totally fine to smoke weed and drive. Look at everyone who is responding. The car stank of weed. It’s very possible that Haslem was smoking and driving. Does anyone CARE about that?
    Just legalize it!
I feel the mindset of weed has to change. I know that sounds super ridiculous, but really, there’s this notion that weed is super safe and doesn’t effect you at all, and it really is scary.

  • http://www.redraidersports.com Nicolas Fleming

UD signed with the Heat and he got that fire. He is just living the dream.

  • total scrotal implosion

Jukai, its ‘per se’ u look like a tool for that. And it really is scary? Haha so, all these ppl drinking and driving, killin ppl, is no longer scary? Its become accepted, thats whats scary. And of course u shouldnt smoke and drive, but it doesnt impair your ability to drive that bad. Txting, eating, putting on makeup are worse distractions when driving. Im not promoting highdriving, just saying its not as bad as u say.

  • johnny c

i think weed should be legalized too, but i think i’m with jukai on this one. theres definetly negative effects it has, and the only people who deny it 100% are the ones smoking it all day every day. makes people lazy and slower to react to anything going on. i know people who struggle to pay rent every month, and even though their short of cash by the end of the month, they blow the rest of it on weed, money that they dont have to just throw around. sign of a problem? maybe not, but definetly a bad arangement of priorities

  • http://fsdkjlf.com Jukai

So the open racist is calling me a tool? Cool beans.
And yeah, all these people drinking and driving IS still scary. It hasn’t become accepted. It’s terrifying.
What’s ludicrously terrifying is that you think me drinking a soda while driving is worse than me smoking a joint. That’s 100% ludicrous. I was a stupid kid. I’ve done both, and I’ve driven while tanked and while stoned out of my mind. When incredibly trashed? Much easier to drive while stoned. But talking about a little impairment? So much easier to drive two beers in than two joints in. Not even close.
You are part of the mindset problem, the reason why people die when drinking/getting high. Don’t say “oh well texting is worse and people still do it.”
    Just don’t do it.

  • http://fsdkjlf.com Jukai

Adderal is less dangerous than weed. Adderal makes me concentrate more, it makes me happy, and it gives me a huge rush when you crush it and snort it. Let’s legalize adderal too.
And you know what? No one dies FROM doing mushrooms. Let’s legalize mushrooms too. You only die if you do stupid sh*t on it. But it’s fine while driving. I mean, you could be doing worse while driving.

  • http://fsdkjlf.com Jukai

Bottom line, this should not be a soapbox about legalizing the drug. If they busted into UD’s home and cuffed him for smoking a joint, I’d be up in arms too. I don’t necessarily like marijuana, but I’m leaning on legalizing it cause I think it would probably spark the economy.
But I’m just scared sh*tless when tards like yourself say things like “whatever, people eat sandwiches when they drive, lemme take a puff of this joint, it’s not as bad”
Just cause you smoke your brains out every day and post nonsensical basketball rants on SLAM so weed no longer effects you, doesn’t mean it wont impair someone else immensely. Use your brain, or whatever’s left of it.

  • http://kb24.com DreXnaW21

The comments at 6:17 and 6:19 are not me. Please know that I’m not that ignorant nor that idiotic to be making those kinds of statements.

  • LOAF

    loooooooooooool Jukai is right though

if i had a joint now, i would be too paranoid to go round the shop and buy some milk! let alone get behind a wheel

weed is not coke or crack but its still addictive is still can control peoples thoguhts decisions and prioirties ” lets apy the rent, actually lets get a score!” and jsut vegitate all day in the place…

its also really unsocial! what kidn of conversations are you going to have with a cabbage tanked up on chronic your going to get mumbles…

  • C.A

If they pull him over because he is in a Benz with tinted windows, and then discover he IS doing something illegal…well, its not really helping the black ‘victimised’ cause is it?
There are many who get stopped because of racist reasons for NO good reason, but if he gets pulled and IS doing something illegal, then the Police will just hold their heads high and say ‘we knew it was the right thing to do’.

  • vtrobot

i’m sorry to continue on one of the pro-weed soapboxes, but some clarification is needed. they just published a medical study which showed that weed DID NOT impact the reaction time of tested drivers. they were more easily distracted, but didn’t have slower reaction times. saying that weed and alcohol are equally bad to mix with driving is not true. i’m not saying there aren’t negative aspects to smoking weed regularly, but i think it’s less harmful/dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes. there are also a lot of anti-weed posters who are making assumptions of what it’s like to be high as they’ve actually never smoked. there are idiots who have never smoked and geniuses who smoke every day, and vice versa. at least UD wasn’t texting while driving because that sh*t is hardcore crazy.

  • The Philosopher

    Through the middle of the broad way of the city;
    also, on either side of the river was the tree of life with its twelve varieties of fruit, yielding each month its fresh crop;
and the leaves of the tree were for the healing and the restoration of the nations.
    (Revelation 22:2)

  • total scrotal implosion

^^^^^^^^yes I! Herb is the healing of the nation!!! Jukai, im an open racist? Id think I would know if that were the case. You put so many words in my mouth. I said smokn n driving is very bad but not the worst, im not promoting it. Adderall is much worse than herb. And you cant blame herb for the dumb actions of ppl who smoke it. Some ppl are just stupid with or without external influences. Such as jukai who typed ‘per say’. Hey, if u smoked, u could have blamed it, but u dont so ur just dumb. Per say, lol go back to school u simpleton, short bus will be picking u up soon.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Actually, I never smoked weed in a car.
