Allen Iverson to China Interest ‘Legitimate’

A.I.’s manager simply can’t believe that no NBA team has shown interest in The Answer this summer. The AP reports: “Unwanted by the NBA, Allen Iverson is considering playing in China. Gary Moore, Iverson’s personal manager, said Iverson has not been contacted by any NBA team with training camps set to open in less than two weeks. Moore said there is ‘legitimate interest’ between Iverson and a team in China to work out a deal. Moore did not know the team’s name and was vague on details. ‘We’re very astonished, to say the least, that not one team has contacted us with any interest,’ Moore said. ‘I just don’t understand it.’”

I hope “keeping it real” is worth it.
I hope he saved his money.
Oh, and, Iverson is a clown.
    Period.
But, I do hope he gets a gig somewhere.

    Sad

  • Darius

He should be in the NBA. These teams are stupid

  • Trout

I bet he would love to attend practice now.

  • Zabba

Lol! Yeah, I’ll bet those practices are looking pretty tempting now.

He proved that he can’t mesh on a young team that wanted him for veteran leadership. He’s not content being a 4th, 5th option (or even 3rd). The question isn’t whether he has enough talent, but whether he’s content in being a role player. The answer is no, he’s not. So he won’t be playing for young teams who’ve been scared off by his team in Memphis. Championship caliber teams won’t want him to screw up chemistry. Mid level teams apparently don’t think he’s worth the potential for ticket sales. and thus….China, where the league is developing, the money is okay, and he’ll be The Man in a country that loves the game. It’s a sad and logical move considering the circumstances. Happy trails, AI…you made the game a joy to watch.

I just get the feeling he’s trying to make it sound like he’s considering China teams just to lure out teams to give him an offer. Well, I think they can see you’re bluffing AI. Go play in China then.

dang i dont want this to happen but if he wont be a role player then he needs to go there to be the man on a team an score all the points he wants to

    Allen Iverson will not go gentle into that good night. Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

“China!!!! You guys are talkin about China!!! AI is supposed to be the franchise player, and you guys are talkin about China!!!”

  • Nashty

If he goes to China he better not act a fool in public places, the Chinese governments don’t play when it comes to people breaking the law….

    ……………. (speechless)

    Simple question
Why doesn’t Riley hire Iverson as a veteran help from the bench (or hell even as a starter). With superstar James and Wade on the team I don’t see him causing any kind of unrest nor being selfish…
    Same goes for the Lakers
I can understand a weak team trying not to hamper its rebuilding effort, but in a wining environnement, with a undiscutable leader, I cant see any risks !
    Any ideas ??

Maybe there’s an untold story somewhere behind the surface…

    He’s effing hot!! tsssssss.

  • PapaBearATL

You can only have that ‘Me Against the World’ attitude for so long before it comes true. He has done this to himself and it’s sad to see. He was one of the hardest working(in games), self sacrificing players in the league, he let us know as often as he could. A lot of our athletes in various sports need to be told: ‘Shut up and let your talent speak for you’. It’s to late for AI though.

  • NicktheQuick

Funny how some people here will say that teams are stupid for not signing AI but I’m pretty sure if any team signed him and same thing that happened to Memphis, Detroit and Philly happens to that team, these same fans will be here saying how stupid this team was for signing him in the first place. It’s pretty obvious that he can still play but no team is willing to risk it at the expense of what could go horribly wrong.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Okay Nick, Memphis and Detroit and Philly all sucked @ss before Iverson, and they still suck @ss after Iverson. To act like Iverson ruined those teams is ridiculous.

its a sad situation, but Iverson brought this upon himself. Making demands as if he was the player he was when he was leading the league in scoring. He never has been the guy to settle in the role player position. Sad to say but, iverson is a brat

I still don’t get why people keep saying he was a problem in Philly, he was on the best behaiviour of his career in Philly what happened to Philly what did he do to the team to hurt them? Someone please explain this to me….. if you are going to label any of the stints as a problem then don’t include Philly and Denver… Detroit wasn’t all his fault but yeah at least it makes sense to say it and same with Memphis.

The gr8 AI. Black balled. Sad

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Is his manager trying hard enough? How many teams has HE approached?

  • JTaylor21

The NBA would be wise to create a team in China. Just imagine all the revenue generated with 300+ million people who are obsessed with basketball, a F*CKING GOLD MINE!!!!!!

  • str8 from samoa

china is good enough? hel be da best player there str8 up

  • flipnoyce

Practice, practice, practice!!!! if only AI’s ego is smaller than his head then it all be fine. Its not that you don’t have game anymore its ur attitude and ur unwillingness to cooperate. You ain’t young anymore so make a grown man decision. If you’re gonna play somewhere do that, JUST SHOW up for practice!!!!

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

@Pardeep: according to the player (e.g. Hamilton) AI didn’t cause any problems in Detroit either, for a matter of fact the coach got caught in several lies about what he was saying about AI to his face accusing the team of saying things. So Memphis is the only place where AI really created issues, but since he was coming of the bench for conelly, I understood and agreed with his thoughts. I can hostetly see AI in Boston where there are tons of veterans, Doc and team oriented basketball. This is a situation where AI can be AI for 15 minutes a game and sorta like Nate last year have some moments where he’s set lose to try to dominate. If AI does play in China, he’ll sign a one year deal and he’ll be on his best behavior to show he’s still got fuel in the tank and can be humble. I love AI’s game and it’s sad he put himself in this position, but some team will pick him up because at the end of the day he can still make a team better.

it’s sad but im not sorry for him. he had 3 stops in one year after detroit. circumstances are a b— but you gotta make it work. + he hasnt shown any willingness to adapt his style to his decreasing abilities. of course he is an nba talent but good teams don’t have 25-30 minutes to offer him and bad teams would rather develop guards for the future as AI is not a “hot ticket” anymore.

  • Izzy

How does it work with free agents like AI? If you have no luck with teams approaching YOU, do u (or ur manager) then go around approaching THEM? Or is that like the bride proposing to the groom?
I guess to save face he could just go and be a star in China, the only place where he is actually wanted atm (sadly).
