Joakim Noah Turned Down Team USA

Noah listened to Team USA’s pitch (along with those from Cameroon and Sweden), but he said no thanks. Joakim’s going to rep France in international competition. From Hoopsnotes: “Cameroon (where his great-father is born) and Sweden (land of his mother) also called me,’ Joakim Noah said to the Journal du Dimanche. ‘I was pleased to be contacted by Team USA, which searched valid centers. It could have given me the possibility to play with great players. But I repeat it: I want to play with France, it’s my dream. That would make my great-mother really happy and I want my family to be proud. This summer, I was in a difficult situation. But I’m coming next year and I will use my blue jersey.’”

  • Yann Blavec

Of course he’ll play for France, he’s french.

Dude is French. He wears Le Coq Sportif’s. No kidding he will play for France. Can’t judge a guy because he makes the logical choice. Heck, Kaman plays for Germany. It’s an international world we live in.

  • Groves

at least france is justifiable, they are good and hes almost guaranteed a place plus he gets to join european competition plus he plays with star nba players, imagine if he chose cameroon or sweden =\

  • wottywo

Who cares, we still won without you. So why bring this up Joakim? U.S.A has all the goal, so again who really cares? All I see is a missed chance for you to wear gold around your neck, because I sure don’t see you winning a NBA title soon.

Well damn! People are really hostile towards Noah and as a result, sort of missing the point.

Noah gets the call but chooses France and it’s “We don’t want him anyway”, “F Noah” etc. The point is Team USA made a pitch for him, so clearly that is who cares about Noah. The fact he is French and chose to play for them is secondary to the fact that Team USA went looking for him that is a big statement on any players resume even if we were talking about the dirty dozen (98) or the 88 Olympic team “The Bronze Bunch” as I like to call them.

word to his mother. she’s great.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

@ wottywo – how the hell do you know Noah won’t win an NBA title? The Bulls are a lot closer than people think. No, it probably won’t happen next year, but Rose is only 21 and Noah 25, believe me they have plenty of time to get the right aquad together. Anyways, Noah lived in France for 10 years, and is very proud of his French heritage, so why all the hate?

If you don’t like american ways, why don’t you just GET OUT!

@SAB both of his parents are great….that makes him The Great Joakim….thats kinda got a ring to it

  • http://dsjfklf.com Jukai

No player just BRINGS THIS STUFF UP (unless yer Lebron). Noah was asked and he responded. He’s not bringing it up to shove it in people’s faces.

Enigmatic: Ease your emotions, one question for Everyone here, who in the hell really fears the Bulls? 75 percent of the people would only put them as a 2nd round exit, that’s it. The bulls team isn’t a championship team period. I’m not hating on Noah. He just wont win with the Bulls.
Also, Noah has every right to play for which country he wants, like I said we didn’t need him, so why bring this conversation up anyway. It would be different if the U.S.A lost.

  • NicktheQuick

Why do people here get so bent out of shape when a good player with some foreign heritage wants to play for a different country? It’s his choice and it’s not all about winning gold for everyone. Sure everyone aim’s to win but it’s also a pride thing. If Amare said that he wanted to play for Israel would this be the same reaction? I

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Wottywo – My emotions are in check, dude, I just come off a little more heated than I mean to sometimes. But for real, like I said, as it stands right now the Bulls will most likely not win it all, but our two best players are young enough that we they can build a team capable of winning it all sometime in the next 5 years if the right moves are pulled off. Don’t sleep on my Bulls, they’re gonna be deadly in the future.

  • wottywo

@Enigmatic Did I not say that? Really man, this is a conversation. Think about. I said Noah will not win a Championship soon. Why because of the celtics, orlando, and the heat are in the way, period, until those teams break down, or the bulls get better, the Bulls are a second round max team, plain and simple.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/ Diesel

Why even play the games when Wottywo already knows what’s going to happen? Thanks for saving me 8 months of watching basketball Wottywo. Also, @DMA – take it easy grand wizard…the guy is just proud of where he came from.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Wottywo – Naw, son. You didn’t say that. You just said, “because I sure don’t see you winning a NBA title soon”, and then you trying to pull a Silent Storm by trying to rationalize the comment after the fact. Like my boy Diesel alluded to, you’re not a fortune-teller.

  • wottywo

Enigmatic: We will see when the season starts, as long as there is a team made up of three superstars,Noah will not win. And yes I said no time soon, I didn’t say ever, get your facts straight. And yes I’m a fortune teller because it’s called common sense. Who really thinks the bulls are good enough to challenge the Heat? Who thinks the Bulls are good enough to challenge the Celtics? Who thinks the bulls are good enough to challenge orlando? Like I said before, the bulls are a 2nd round team period. And Noah will not win anytime soon (meaning maybe years from now, and not with the bulls). But if New York gets Carmelo and Chris Paul with Stoudemire, your bulls can kiss there chance at the NBA finals good bye. Now sleep on those facts.

  • wottywo

Diesel: Are you for real, you really think the bulls will beat (orlando, Miami, and boston)did you bump your head? The bulls don’t have chance with those teams.Boozer was a good pick up, but the bulls are still a 2nd round exit team. Use common sense man. If you are a true basketball fan, you can divide fact from fiction. Use your head man, you must be a fan of the bulls, that’s cool, but when your boys get beat, don’t act surprise.

  • hammer

@dma 2:15. Noah is french. Hence,he chooses 2 play 4 france. That’s his country, his nationality. Its the obvious choice. If some1 asked u 2 rep the us u would do it right? Cuz that,I imagine,is ur country and nationality. Quit hatin just cuz its noah. Batum played 4 france, kaman played 4 germany, yao is committed 2 china, dirk also committed 2 germany. So what’s the beef? My only answer I can come up with is cuz its noah. Stop w/the hateration

  • MikeC.

    It’s Lebron’s fault.

  • wottywo

MikeC:Yea I agree with you, this is the perfect time to blame Lebron. It’s all Lebrons fault(LOL)!!!.

  • Diesel

@wottywo, I am a Bulls fan, and I don’t realistically think the Bulls will win it all this year. But I do think in a year or two, with noah and drose both getting that much better, and maybe picking up a two gaurd, they will be right there. Let’s realistically look at the next three years: 3 of the 5 starting celtics will be retired. Carter will be gone in Orlando and it will just be Dwight, Lewis, and an undersized Nelson, and I refuse to give the Heat anything till I see some games. There’s a little thing called chemistry. So yes, I will challange you when you say there’s NO WAY Noah wins in the near future. There’s a chance..and a good one at that

  • Robert Womack

Diesel: I except that challenge, but like you said chemistry is a big thing, so don’t be surprised if your boy Noah breaks any chemistry the bulls have. But I except your challenge. Oh and when that does happen(the celtics break up) you need to watch NY(carmelo, and paul) are heading there.

To be real the reson I say the bulls are a 2nd round exit is because the Bulls lost Ben Gordon, that hurt when it came to the offense, and I don’t see anybody picking up his scoring he did.

  • BBaller

I’m no fortune teller but after watching the NBA for over 25 years i’m going to presume that miami will be a 50+ win team next season. In fact I’ll put the house on it.@Diesel i agree with you that the Cs are only contenders for another year or two tops(a fact thats pretty obvious even to themselves), Orlando are not quite up to it even with VC, they need a CP3, or relevant All star if they want to get back to the finals. As for the Bulls i’m really excited about the near future but you have to ask Is Boozer really the piece that makes them go from 2nd rounders to champs?Sorry but signing Dirk would of been the answer to that. Aswell if that rumour about NY eventuates the East will be even more competitive. Will Noah win anything more than a divisional championship? ………..No, Go bulls though, always belong at the top

  • WJL

Noah is trash he aint gonna help france no way in the olympics. he is going to guard melo? lol usa’s power forward.the only reason he gets all those boards is because teams dont crash oboards they get in transition defense so rose dnt get a layup everytime down the court!

  • Lazarus

he has a choice what country to play for?
