Knicks Struggling to Find Right Deal for Rudy Fernandez

Rudy wants to play in New York, but the Knicks are having a hard time putting the right pieces together to acquire him. From the NY Daily News: “Rudy Fernandez continues to lobby for a trade to New York, but the Knicks either can’t or won’t make a trade for the Portland shooting guard. According to a team source, Knicks president Donnie Walsh recently rejected a three-team deal that would have sent Anthony Randolph to Indiana, a first-round pick to Portland and Fernandez to New York. Because the Trail Blazers are insisting on receiving a first-round pick in return for Fernandez, the Knicks likely need to recruit a third team in order to complete a deal. The Blazers apparently have little interest in Wilson Chandler.”

from this i assume the blazers have rejected randolph or chandler.. i would’ve gone for either of those in return for a sulking fernandez, plus i thought the knicks don’t have any picks until 2043?

  • Torrance

The Knicks would give up Chandler for Fernandez?

  • Nigel

What do they need him for anyway? He’s no better than any of the wings they have now.

I don’t see why Portland are being so picky with Rudy. Yes, I can see that they don’t just want to cave to his demands, but Chandler is a solid player and they have all their starting spots filled/a very solid bench. There isn’t much they really lack and Chandler would be injury insurance for Roy and could play at the 3 too. I’d snap this up in a heartbeat.

Its funny, people compare Randolph to Odom, does anyone else think they’ll have him come off the bench like Odom does?

  • kaboom

isn’t he supposed to concetrate and win some games for his national team??

  • Matt

    Fernandez to NYC
Wilson Chandler, Joel Przybilla, Andre Miller to Denver
    chauncey billups to portland :)

I just hope he can find some pt in the nba next year so I can watch him play.

It just won’t be an overrated Mike D’Antoni team without a flashy guard who plays subpar defense.

No big deal really, we have options without Rudy. I’d like to see how Kelenna Azubuike turns out he has proven he will work hard to progress his career even after going undrafted.

Showed massive improvement in his 2 stints in the Dev League and decent enough production at GSW. We also have Landry Fields who can play guard or wing and he’s got a pretty good backs tory too.

Now let’s focus on the core we have and put some effort into getting Melo if that avenue remains open.

Oh and getting JVG back or Mark Jackson as head coach – experience be dammned! Not asking for much IMHO.

  • Michael

damn I would love to see Randolph start at the 4 for the Pacers

  • Anon E Mouse

LA Huey, harsh words but I chuckled :-) JVG to NY would do me for the next Knicks rumour. I mean how many players have tackled Zo let alone coaches? Brings a tear to my eye just reminiscing, good times. Sigh.

  • T-Money

not quite. the blazers don’t want chandler and the knicks don’t want to give up randolph (and they shouldnt!).

Amare for Rudy.. what’s so difficult with that?

  • chrisneww

i love rudy and the blazers, but shit the dude is not gonna play for portland again so get something for him now before he bails. wilson chandler is a better player than rudy so why the f**k not rich cho

  • http://thetroyblog.com Tedyd-the-Bear

So essentially RANDOLPH FOR RUDY was the trade? Are you serious?!
And WHY do the Knicks h@te the only players that are loyal? Wilson Chandler >>>>> Gallinari, Fernandez, etc. Although, Gallinari is way better than Fernandez..

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    My name ***

Donnie aint slippin. I’m glad he REJECTED the Blazers and Pacers! The heck with giving up Anthony Randolph to get Rudy Fernandez. There is just so much potential with Randolph just waiting to be realized in NYC.

@Teddy – i don’t get what you mean. how is chandler loyal? wasn’t he a 1st round draft pick still on a rookie contract? i’m on the blazers’ side. i think they’re setting an example of not caving into players’ demands. what’s to lose for the organization? it’s not like free agents come flocking to play here as it is.

  • MikeC.

I tend to fall into the trap of over-valuing Knick players. I almost tore my house to the ground when NY traded Oak and Starks, but that turned out fine. If Donnie and D’Antoni think that Rudy is better than Wilson, then go get him boys. Just don’t trade the bigs. We have some good ones now.

  • total scrotal implosion

    Im sick of this scrub

  • Robb

send his wimpy ass back to Spain so he can make out with Ricky

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

Blazers are correct to sit on his rights until they get at least a 1st rounder back.

Get him a one way ticket to Spain, I don’t want his whiny ass on my team!

  • dma

are you guys not even reading the blurb? the blazers were going to get Indiana’s 1st round back for rudy. last i checked, pacers aren’t going to the playoffs. again. (unless indiana’s pick belongs to some other team). this is the best deal for portland right now, but it was NEW YORK that turned it down.

As a Blazer fan, I would like to see Fernandez for Mike Conley.. (Oden gets to play with college teammate, and we get more help at the 1.. And Rudy gets to play with his buddy Marc Gasol and an up-and coming Grizz squad) Everybody wins..

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

^ even though Rudy would cry and whine about playing behind Mayo, he would no longer be our problem. ;)

  • King Henry the 2nd

Gallinari is way better than Chandler, Teddy. And why the hell should the Knicks give up Randolph just to get Fernandez?

  • xplore

Fernandez would be a good pick up for any team. He would never go to the L.A. dum dums

  • MusketeerX

Thank God. Donnie Walsh actually has some brains in his head.

Rudy is a lights out shooter, but not much else. Randolph looks to have vast potential, and I’d be more curious to see how that potential plays out then get a player with a bad attitude and no defense.

  • http://www.slamonline.com BackInBlack

This is stupid. he should ask to be waived or just play, the guy thinks that he is the best, he is currently worth a second rounder. Randolph will start, the kid has lots of potential. Portland should have accepted the trade for chandler. Fernandez should suck it up, grow a pair and realize that he is in the big leagues. Anyways he is going to end up in Chicago so the Knicks should stop trying.

  • MikeC.

@BackInBlack – Would Thibodeau actually want Rudy if his D is as bad as everyone says?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Henry: Uhhh, that’s exactly what I was asking… Do you honestly think that I, a Knick fan, would like that trade?
And you’re wrong. Chandler is better than Gallinari at pretty much everything save for 3 point shooting and maybe blocks. Mid-range, check. Slashing game, check. Defense, check. On-the-ball defense, check. Speed and athleticism, check.

  • downtown_brownclown

i think the only trade that the knicks should give is roger mason jr. for rudy fernandez… :) no way that the knicks their big man for rudy… Go KNICKS!
