Miami Heat to Move Training Camp to New Locale?

Not sure if you’ve heard, but the Heat are a big deal now, and their current training camp accommodations might no longer be adequate. From the Sun-Sentinel: “The Miami Heat is considering taking its training camp on the road for the first time in the franchise’s 23 seasons. In a bid to possibly stave off an expected media crush in the wake of signing LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the Sun Sentinel has learned the Heat is working out details to possibly move its camp to the state’s Panhandle. The Heat has held its training camps at AmericanAirlines Arena in recent seasons, as a matter of economics and convenience. The farthest it has strayed with its camps over its first 22 seasons had been into Palm Beach County. But for those from the national media who had been expecting a week of South Beach, the reality now could be something closer to Waffle Houses and Holiday Inns, with the Heat considering traveling more than 500 miles from South Florida.”

They should move them where they belong, AREA 51! SMH

Commenter extraordinaire Bryan should be thrilled to know this will be taking place not too far from him in Panama City, FL. I also like how they describe the Panhandle area as being full of “Waffle Houses and Holiday Inns”.

@Eboy: At least they’re not the Pistons. They have to hold their training camp in….Detroit. Or somewhere in….Michigan.

They should just hold it at LeBron or Wades house.

I don’t care where they go, all I know is that training camp means that the season is around the corner, YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH.

They should hold it in Cleveland just for old time’s sake.

raptors get the award for furthest training camp..toronto-vancouver is no short distance

  • JTaylor21

@wilz, the reason the raptors do that is to make sure that nobody sees them practicing their new defensive schemes.

I don’t see the big deal here. Teams can hold training camp pretty much wherever they feel like it. And how’s it gonna stop the media crush anyways? I mean, who the hell doesn’t like waffle houses??

wilz is right for our american friends thats the difference from buffalo to Cali

they should have their training camp at the MONSTARS facility in looney tunes because lebron and wade are prolly on some of that”special stuff”

What’s the point of moving camp? It’s closed to the public anyway and the media will show up wherever the ‘story’ is. If they don’t want a media and fan circus then they need to figure out a way to go to a ‘private’ location. Maybe they can rent a private island or something. They will have enough of a media circus this entire year so I understand them wanting a more ‘secluded’ location, but just moving from one public locale to another just seems like a huge waste of money.
