Monta Ellis Looking to Squash Beef With Stephen Curry

Monta tells FanHouse that he will work to make the rocky partnership with Curry work better this coming season: “Juanika Ellis, who he credits as his unofficial life counselor. She tells him what he needs to hear, even if it’s not what he wants to hear. And she’s been doing it, Ellis said, for most of the four years that they have been together — including the day  after media day 2009. ‘She told me as soon as I said it that it was wrong,’ Ellis said of the Curry comments. ‘I didn’t let her know at the time that she was right, but she always told me, ‘You and Steph can do it. Y’all can do it. Just play together and don’t let the outside world destroy y’all because you can win if they put pieces around you.’ Ellis — who is owed $44 million over the final four seasons of his contract and averaged a team and career-high 25.5 points-per-game in 2009-10 — was slow to agree with her. He says now that he didn’t come to that realization until mid-March, when lingering back soreness and a bout with the flu forced him to miss 16 of the final 32 games and gave him ample time for introspection. ‘A month before the season was over with, I really had to sit back and blame myself in a sense because I’m that leader; I’m that one who everybody feeds off of,’ Ellis said. ‘Everything that went on last year (regarding Curry) shouldn’t have gone on. I blame myself.’ Ellis said he made amends with Curry this summer, attempting to clear up whatever residue remained from their inauspicious start. Curry has certainly met him halfway in attempt to fix the relationship that so many saw as broken, even attending Ellis’ wedding in late July when the only other current teammate present was Devean George.”

Good look on Monte’s part since he would probably be on the way out if G State can unload his contract somewhere. They are a long ways from being a contender but are definitely a exciting squad to watch when those two run together….one of my dark horse squad on 2k10

  • Love4Humanity

They can score a lot of points together. They won’t win a lot. But they can score.

  • don

wait, so monta is a little bit like kobe because not a lot of his teammates respects him as a friend? given that only two teammates out of 14 attended his wedding?

Its an awesome and fun backcourt they have in Oakland. Hopefully they can make it all work. Add Jeremy Lin to the mix and you have yourself a nice little group of guards.

Thought this was going to be about Steph Marbury.

^ Why? It says Stephen Curry in the headline. ^

  • JTaylor21

Of course he apologizing after he saw just how good the kid was. I predict that SCurry becomes the better player by the all-star break.

Glad that’s cleared up. I remember saying they could work together when everyone was saying to ship Monta out. Now to see how the John Wall and Arenas combo will pan out…

  • JoeMaMa

Monta Ellis isn’t that leader. He’s that scorer. SCurry just won a gold after blowing up the L at the end of the season. He should feel lucky that Steph went to his wedding…and didn’t scoop up his dame at the altar.

  • james

he only had 2 teammates at his wedding?…wow

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

Whoever just compared Monta to Kobe needs to stop.
@niQ, I actually have GState v DC circled on my calendar. Should be fun.

It is good to see Monta take the high road in mending a situation that should not have happened from the beginning. It is also refreshing to see an athlete own up to his mistake without pointing the finger at someone else, Kudos Monta and good luck this year.

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

now that everyone knows Curry´s the real deal Monta is backing up on his comments, chickensh1t!! when he was a rookie he bashed him, now Steph passed him as the face of the franshise backs down, lol…focus on stop being the biggest ball hog in the L, Monta

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

    and lol at joemama

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty

Monta is not “taking the high road” hes just joining steph whos been there the whole time.

  • JTaylor21

@LA Huey is right, I’m not the biggest Kobe fan but when idiots start talking nonsense about dude I’ve no choice but to respond and set them straight.

  • unrel

regardless of why he’s back tracking.. does it matter?

  • unrel

whenever i refresh the home page.. i see.. “Beef” and “Curry”.. then i get hungry.. and all i have is a hood meal: rice, eggs and spam..

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

i remember reading a while back that monta was hard on steph because he wanted steph to earn respect by playing hard vs getting praised off the bat. he said it’s what baron, jrich, and jackson did when he was starting out in the league. not exactly sure where this “beef” is coming from. have you seen the two of them play together?

  • ALEX80

O.h my gosshhhh!!!! this is like Globe Magazine but for basketball.

JK …I love SLAM since Larry on the cover.

  • http://www.dontevenreply.com total scrotal implosion

Steph is nice, but now, hes not close to monta.

  • http://Www.dimemag.com B-More Mike

I always knew JTaylor had a soul.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Co-sign TSI, a lot of people started really h@ting Monta after that moped incident.

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

teddy, it’s cause bay area warrior fans are fickle. at least the majority of them are. after “we believe,” look how many people we’ve turned into scapegoats. baron, stephen jackson, al harrington, nellie, now monta. people still boo stephen jackson when he comes to town. ridiculous

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Monta Ellis Looking to Squash Beef With Stephen Curry, because Curry just played on the FIBA team and is consider the face of the Warriors.

  • Sparty’s Law

Devean George is still in the League?

  • runtmc91

To be fair about Monta only having two teammates at his wedding, most of the players on the team are new. Biedrins is the only holdover from years past that I can think of. Everyone else is gone.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Haha I guess so, davidR; it’s nice to see real fans like you though. Just a question: If most Warriors fan h@te Stephen Jackson, what do they think of Nellie?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

If only 2 people went to Monta’s wedding, could that be because the Warriors pretty much cleaned house? Should have invited Jeremy Lin… The real story is when will the beef between Lin and Ellis end?

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

teddy, for the most part fans want nellie fired. and i’m pretty sure if jeremy lin doesn’t get burn (regardless of whether he’s good or not), the majority of asian fans will want nellie’s head on a platter

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

personally, i want nellie to stay especially with the current team we have. i think he’ll have some crazy potent offensive schemes lined up. plus, he makes basketball in the bay exciting!

  • ClydeSays

Those 2 should think about maybe playing D and making plays occasionally and forget about any beef.
