Nets/Nuggets Heating Up Carmelo Anthony Trade Talks (UPDATE)

Says here that New Jersey and Denver are negotiating to see if something can be worked out for the Melo man before the season begins. Though, of course, nothing is close to being finalized at the moment. Yahoo! reports: “Nothing is imminent in the next 24 hours, but Denver and New Jersey are having ongoing discussions centered on No. 3 overall pick Derrick Favors and future first-round picks going back to the Nuggets. The two teams are engaging third – and possibly even fourth teams – to complete what one front-office source described as a ‘very complicated’ deal. One league executive said the Nets believe they’re ‘getting there’ on a trade for Anthony. The Nets want to get a deal done before Anthony reports to training camp in Denver next week because league officials think the Nuggets will start working to convince him to stay. The Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks have been Anthony’s preferred contenders, but he’s grown more comfortable with the idea of signing an extension with the Nets, league sources said. Denver refuses to do a deal with the Bulls that doesn’t include center Joakim Noah, and so far Bulls officials have refused to put him into any deal.”

UPDATE: ESPN has more on the proposed trade(s): “Nuggets in ‘serious’ discussions on four-way trade w/New Jersey, Utah and Charlotte that would make Melo a Net. Proposed deal, according to sources, would bring Derrick Favors, Andrei Kirilenko and multiple first-rounders to DEN for Melo … Other contracts would surely be added to make such a deal work but current proposal also would send Devin Harris to CHA and Diaw to UTAH.”

I very much look forward to Jerry Sloan becoming the anti-Latrell Sprewell and strangling Diaw. It will only take so long before it happens.

to anyone mocking the Nets: if Augustin is included and the starting 5 is this: Augustin, Williams, Anthony, Murphy and Lopez, with Farmar, Morrow and Outlaw coming off the bench, as fan I can only say: I like my team. But we’ll see what happens.

I dont agree that the buffets didnt suerions him with quality players. Denver had one of the most talented 8-man rotation in the league.

If he goes to the Nets he won’t be making it past the first round in the next 5 years.

Wow, this is great for the Bobcats if it goes through.
I don’t see anyone else getting better though.

As a Bobcats fan, I’m not happy. I honestly think Diaw fits the team better than Harris will.

Plz trade the man to Nets and let him watch playoffs on widescreen. I guess he was tired of playoffs anyways thats why he pushed for a trade. His dream came true, he is going to be involved more into Championship battle, in elite or 2k11 :)

i think the only loser will be melo and the nets. they will be a mediocre team. big trade for charlotte, denver getting favors and some nice picks. and utah is getting 9 mio off there books and under the luxuary tax…

From an “Xs and Os” perspective, I like this trade for all parties. Obviously, Denver’s future would look better post trade. Devin would take pressure and ball-handling responsibilities from Jax and Wallace in Charlotte. Diaw can become a glue guy for a team that needs glue (D-Will, Jefferson, and those young SGs should be leading the scoring). Finally, I really like the Nets after this deal. T-Will would do most of the ball-handling even if he starts at the 2. Jordan’s there for defense. Morrow and Murphy stretch the floor while Brook works the post. Of course, Melo would do whatever he wants to because honestly, that’s what he wants to do. And he wants to do it on the east coast. The nets could win 50 with that squad. Plus Mikhail and Jigga seem smart. They’d bring in more talent, maybe even D-Will next summer.

Melo 2 the nets @ the moment just doesn’t make sense. They lose harris. But next summer,if they do get melo, there gonna b gunnin 4 cp3. Conspiracy? Mayb. This is all lbj’s fault. Ha ha!

  • Red

Only reason I wouldn’t want Melo to the Nets is the new Russian guy who bought them for publicity rather then for an interest in Basketball.
