Nuggets Want to Talk it Out With Carmelo Anthony

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

The soap opera playing out in Denver is a lot like watching a bad marriage slowly crumble. One side (seemingly) wants out, while the other, knowing full well that everything would be ruined should a split happen, desperately tries to hang on.

The Nuggets introduced their new VP of basketball operations to the world yesterday, and his first task is the most important job in the entire organization: convince Carmelo Anthony to stay.

The team attempted to paint a rosy picture between Anthony’s representatives and front-office execs in Denver, and as the Denver Post reports, the Nuggets are ready to listen to ‘Melo, assuming he wants to talk:

The Nuggets’ new executive vice president of basketball operations, Masai Ujiri, reiterated Tuesday he intends to meet with Anthony soon to get a clearer picture of what the star forward wants to see in order to convince him Denver is the place to stay for at least three more seasons.

“I think that all the speculation is about the team,” Ujiri said. “I think the team is a good team. I don’t know if he has anything that he wants us to do. I think he’s been treated very well by this organization, and he’ll continue to be treated well by this organization. I’ll wait and talk to Melo and see what he has to say. I think so far things have been positive. There’s been a lot of speculation, but hey, that’s how it works in our business.”

“Anything that has been said is either someone trying to manipulate the situation behind the scenes or other motives that are unknown at this point,” [Josh] Kroenke said. “But Melo and his representation have been great to us. I think he knows he can come to me as an individual. We have that amount of respect that we can talk about things openly in a noncombative way. So anything that has been stated from sources behind sources . . . All of our talks have been extremely cordial. I haven’t had a negative conversation with Carmelo Anthony since I’ve known him, and that goes back to my time as a college basketball player. I don’t have a bad word to say about Melo as a person.”

The battle to win back Carmelo Anthony’s heart and mind in Denver has officially begun.

TKB: TommyDeeTKB: Another source says: “don’t expect a melo trade anytime soon. This may go all season.”

Again, I maintain based on strong information that Melo will not sign an extension with any other team than the Knicks…He’s confident that he’ll get paid CBA or not. Right or wrong that seems to be his stance at this point in time. ME (ORANGE): I’m not surprised at all. *smh* I know Carmelo wants to be a Knicka during prime of his career. NYC is in his blood, son. The juice is so worth the squeeze. Beat LeBron’s Heat as a Knick, and we will witness Carmelo vaults himself past LeBron. Carmelo will be treated like KING in NY. Speaking of King’s… I see Bernard King passing the torch to Melo in the Mecca at The World’s Most Famous Arena. I am getting goose bumps just thinking about it. That’s real talk.

oops: *during the prime of his career AND **vault himself……………WOW

I think its a real shame we haven’t seen Lebron against Melo in a 7 game series yet; if that game last season was anything to go by, any matchup between them would be awesome; I hope he goes East for that reason, don’t really care which team it is.

  • logues

co-sign EJ. if he went and cp3 joined em the nba playoffs would be sweet, maybe almost as good as the 90s

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Superstars like Melo, CP3, and Rudy Fernandez deserve a chance at a championship.

  • http://jaredmintzisthetruth.blogspot.com Jared

Rudy’s a superstar? Not in America. Melo hasn’t been outspoken enough about getting dealt and Denver clearly doesn’t want to deal him…if either of those two factors played into this equation something would probably have been done by now. Unless Denver’s waiting on the Knicks being able to trade Anthony Randolph I don’t think anythings gonna get done. Melo’s gonna meet with Ujiri and walk away just like the CP meeting ended, good terms to the media but who knows how they really feel because they don’t want to stir the pot and demand a trade.

  • for da luv of da game

rudy fernandaez a superstar? cp3 melo a given fernandez average at best some need not comment on players and their league status

  • MikeC.

The delay on movement could be the Nuggets working the back channels to bring in a 3rd team to trade with so they can try to get the most value for Melo. The Knicks have some trade chips, but even I’m not delusional enough to think they have enough to deal straight up with Denver. Eddy Curry’s expiring contract is a valuable chip, but only for a team looking to slash payroll. There’s a team like that out there that may be able to facilitate a trade and add extra talent to the proceedings.

It’s funny, I read papers from all over the country, and they all say different things. The Denver Post says how they’re working things out wiht him, the NY Times say how he’s a done deal in NY, The LA papers say he’s going to be a Clipper…sure the media is biased because they want readers, but look at the facts. MikeC is correct, NY does NOT have the pieces for a straight up deal. Despite rumors, I don’t think the Nuggets would send him to NY just for a few crappy players and picks. They want value for their money. Personally, I see
the Nuggets trying to bring in another piece or two of Melo’s choosing to try and convince him to stay. If it doesn’t work out, then they will trade him at the deadline to whichever team gets THEM the most. The Denver papers also mention that they are looking at sending him to the Wolves, Kings, or Nets. Remember, tey don’t HAVE to sign him to trade him, but it helps.

Spaceship Jay go choke on a oscar meyer with your sneak dissing, corny a** clown.

Taking bets now, JTaylor21 Vs. Spaceship Jay. Keep it civil guys.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

No need to take bets; It’s just that dude can’t ever simply state his opinion without an attempt to disrespect who he’s addressing. Talking tough on blogs speaks quite clearly to what a person’s real life is like… The complete opposite.

  • bakers’ dozen (12-13)

    Ironic post of the day.

  • bakers’ dozen (12-13)

    Ironic post of hte day.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

@bakers’ dozen; Actually, I was talking to the other dudes history of talking tough.. I’ve never needed to come at anybody like that before as long as I’ve been coming to this site.

  • http://www.phonetobuy.com LeoneL

Just kidding Jay. And I think the ironic post of the day is baker’s second post. Trying to correct his/her spelling and ending up with hte. Haha.. Don’t mind me, I’m just drunk.

  • JTaylor21

Spaceship Jay you were taking sneak diss shots at Bron without saying his name. If you gonna talk SH*T say dudes name and stop trying hide your hate it’s a female trait, sucker.

  • bakers’ dozen (12-13)

I actually posted my second posting on purpose. I wasn’t trying to say anything bad towards either SJ or JT21…just thought it was funny. :)

  • Ylie?DFW

melo, stay put. dont attempt to follow the current “super team” trend. try and establish your own “dynasty” which is compiled of a good mixture of role players, alpha males, and great TEAMMATES…

yeah there has been a lot of supposeded “super teams” in history but think about it like this. When have we EVER seen a group of three super stars (in their athletic primes) join together? mj,pippen, rodman. rodman was a prolific REBOUNDER (he had a specific role) pippen was great but was “drafted”… magic,kareem,worthy.. kareem was not close to being in his prime.. while compiling potential HOFers is a good way to be considered for the title its not a gurantee… kobe was the only top teir callaber player on the lakers after shaq left was forced to do it all. requested a trade and instead of being traded they brought in talent to mesh with him. not just throwing together all star talent to try and gamble your way to a chip. hopefully teams will recognize that the last several teams to actually win one or more were GREAT TEAMS not teams with multiple GREAT PLAYERS…. ill hang up and listen

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

Taylor, I understand that your a fan of the game, and a fan of Lebron, but I see that you feel attacked personally; I haven’t been such a strong fan for anyone since… Jordan maybe? Maybe you should just take a step back kid.

  • http://www.phonetobuy.com LeoneL

With all due respect JTaylor21, I don’t think there’s such a rule that you have to name someone you are dissin’. In fact, if you’re disrespecting someone, it’s only fitting that you don’t say their given name instead use other “hurtful” words. But as I’ve said, I’m drunk, so what do I know? Haha

  • http://www.slamonline.com RIGGS

lmao @ saying jay sneaked diss shots towards a person who would never read it. stop acting stupid.

  • bakers’ dozen (12-13)

    Melo>Bernard King

    Start the flames.

Guys that make up nicknames for people they’ll never meet or know in their lives are also a bit fruitty, to be truthful.

As long as Melo and CP3 don’t have their “we’re gonna take our talents to the Big Apple” 1 hour special I won’t blame Lebron. Guys changing teams are nothing new.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

Good lord man there is just not enough to talk about right now, all we have to talk about it the newest prima donna, Melo. NBA superstars these days are so annoying. They will continue to follow in the footsteps of LeBrick James(I guess JTaylor will now be angry that I took a direct shot at his lover.), when things don’t go right, they will pout till they get out of town so they can join multiple superstars and rack up championships because they couldn’t lead their own team. What? Another shot at LeBrick? I should be struck by lightening by now, hasn’t happened yet.

  • JTaylor21

LeoneL, no it’s a rule that if your gonna have the cojones to talk ish about someone, you should also have the same BALLS to say the person’s name whether or not the guy’s there to receive the sh*t talking. It’s like the saying goes, don’t throw rocks and hide your hand. @Promise, you posses female features between your legs so your not worth my time.

  • http://slamonline.com nikehead23

hes going to bust a lebrick

  • xplore

  • bakers’ dozen (12-13)

xplore, that would put him on wolves.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

@JTaylor you don’t know me, so why don’t you keep your mouth shut about stuff like that. As much as you talk about my “area” on here, you must be fantasizing about it at night.

  • hammer

@ jtaylor. Nobody else is getting butthurt cept u man. Do like epmd and just chill. Lebron is not a friend of urs I’m sure. He’s not ur sponsor,he’s not ur mom or ur dad or any kind of relative of urs. He don’t care bout u so why try 2 defend him man? If spaceship jay inderectly insulted a relative of urs every1 here would b on ur side. But its a bball player man. Who gives a f**k?

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

Get em’ hammer. You practically read my mind.

  • total scrotal implosion

Funny how some tards thought anton seriously included rudy in there. They must have never seen any of his posts before

  • http://www.threadsandkicks.com.au Eduardo

Since players are making and wanting to create these Super teams really does bad things for the NBA. Now you can scrap ever wanting to watch Denver (if Melo leaves), Cav’s, Raptors, Utah, soon to be Hornets. Rather than having a diverse league people will only want to watch a few games at stadiums and kiss the TV coverage for all the other players and teams goodbye.

  • Robleh

Man forget this guy already, just go to the knicks and be on wit it

  • connor

okay i’m not a clippers fan so this isn’t me just dreaming for my team but i think there should be a trade for melo and chris kaman with al-farouq aminu hear me out clippers have a young team with baron leading who’ll probably be replaced by bledsoe by the end of his contract starting the wirery jordan will give griffin more space to manouvre in the post both ej and melo can make there own and knock down open shots and we know baron can distribute and the nuggets geta much needed post pressence and a top 10 draft pick to replace melo position

  • Jake

I don’t know why Melo would want to leave Denver. It’s an awesome city and they’ve got some talent they just need to make the push for one more high scoring player that can play solid defense and boom they’re in the ECF.NO MORE SUPER TEAMS!

  • Quantumphysix

Melo to NY. NOT!! unless he`s a free agent its gotta be a trade..right? And who does NY have to trade..Duhon??? hahahaha. Stoudamire..Not bloody likely. We`re seeing players come from good teams to lesser team (LBJ experiment!) but Melo would be crazy to do NY. Unless endorsements is what he`s all about~ hmmm . Just saying??

Carmelo, Kenyon, Chauncey, JR, Nene, and Coach Karl all have about 1 season left in Denver. Denver has between now and the trade deadline to figure out how they’re going rebuild, and move into the future in the Western Conference. Until then, all this nice talk by the Nuggets front office is just fluff. 2 cents.
