Polladaday: NBA Policy Complaints?

From time to time, fans complain about the League’s various rules and regulations. Which of these changes would you like to see made?

    Revamp the all-star weekend. Make the all-stars have to sign a contract to at least make it look like they are playing defense, have someone kidnap reggie miller for the weekend, and DON’T EVER EVER LET SHANNON DUNK, PLEASE.

    1 day breaks between playoff games. Bring that back. This 2 or 3 days crap is ridiculous!…And somhow revamp the dunk contest. Don’t exactly know how tho. Basically every dunk that u can think of has been done da-da like ice cube. But after this last dunk “contest” something HAS 2 b done

    Bring back the double baseline screen. I miss movement away from the ball, now the game is about forcing a mismatch off a switch then going one on one and try to get to the line. I miss the team game of the 90s.

    @groves. Slamball is nice! But I expect the nba 2 come up w/something original. @ least that’s my expectations, stead of using something that’s all ready out there. Not 2 mention the high injury risks 4 these star players

    you know what would be dope. If the NBA did like the WNBA and had a USA vs. NBA All-Star format. Of course that would just be a yearly blow out, but it would be good for Team USA to get together and lab on plays and schemes at least a week every year

    And why would any NBA fan want a shorter NBA season? Unless they make the playoffs way longer. It’s already bad enough we gotta wait out most of June, July, August, September and most of October!

    On a more detail/ specific level, I’d love to see a 24-second violation NOT called when a team rebounds an airball and is able to kickstart a fast break out of it. They need to tweak that rule. I absolutely HATE when a team plays 24 seconds of great D, rebounds an airball, outlets it for a fast break and then the whistle blows to signal a Shot Clock violation and they just inbound the ball on the sideline. Slows up the game and kills the reward for great D.

    Less (and shorter) timeouts – absolutely kills the game. No more idiot fan voting. A 72 game regular season. Remove the dunk contest. Extend the width of the court by a few feet. Move the cameramen back a couple feet off the baseline. First round back to five games.

    A 57 game season would kick ass. You’d play all the teams in your conference 3 times(3×14= 42 games) and then you’d play the other teams from the opposing conference once. That way the NBA season would not need to start until January, I guarantee it would improve the regular season tremendously. Less games = more emphasis on winning.

    And a return to the best of 5 first round series should happen. The first round takes about 2.5 weeks as currently structured to complete… that’s wayyyyy toooo long. Besides you hardly see any upsets in RD 1 anymore… because it’s tough to beat a team that is superior to you 4/7.

    Sean, they’ll NEVER reduce the season by that much. Totally hear your point though. Something in the 70-75 range would be more viable. $$$.

    reduce the timeouts. it is really annoying at times. less games in the regular season and not so many pssy foul calls would be great also. sometimes i feel like i’m watching women’s basketball.

    @ Michael NZ… I know they’d never do it but I can dream can’t I? I just think asking these guys to play 82 games is totally detrimental to the overall quality of the product. Look at how many guys never actually play a full 82 game season… it’s just too demanding.

    I’d even take a 68 game season… or maybe like 65… but 82 is just ridiculous.

    All that said, my number one complaint – by far – is the number (and length) of timeouts. Its ridiculous.

    I was going to vote for a fewer regular season games but that is unrealistic because there’s too much money at risk. I’d like the 1st round being shrunk to 5 games. It gives the underdogs a puncher’s chance of pulling the upset.

    For those complaining of timeouts: hahhahahahaha, get a dvr suckers! Just start the game an hour late, its the greatest thing ever. No more reggie and kenny at all star. Kenny almost ruined a great horse game. Bring gerald green and james white to the dunk contest every year. One more personal foul, the best players would play more, better product, more competitive games. And get some room around the court. No more flying in to geezers in the front row or knockn down lil kids(glen!) or gettn hurt by camera men. Just a lil room

    Enigmatic is right. F*CK shorten the season, it would only mean even LONGER offseasons. Now I know that NO ONE on this site wants that sh*t given what we have to read and comment on when there’s no basketball.
