Team USA Routs Tunisia 92-57

Five wins. Zero losses. No complaints about Team USA’s performance from SLAM.

Team USA capped its Group B play with an easy 92-57 win over Tunisia today. The bench clocked most of the minutes and still made its opponent look like a practice squad. Eric Gordon (21 points) and Russell Westbrook (14 points) led the charge. For the complete box score, head over to ESPN.

And now, we’ll quickly hand it over to the AP, for a clean-cut review of America’s gimme game:

Eric Gordon scored 21 points and the United States pulled away after a sluggish first half to beat Tunisia 92-57 on Thursday in its final game of pool play at the world championship.

With nothing to play for, the Americans sleepwalked through most of the early start, leading the winless team by only four points early in the third quarter before turning it into a rout over the final 15 minutes.

The top seed from Group B, the United States (5-0) was awaiting the loser of the Australia-Angola matchup, which would be its opponent Monday as the No. 4 seed from Group A.

Why there was not a live blog covering the game as usual?

  • Ben Osborne Posted: Sep.2 at 12:43 pm

Alright totally tangible. Matt has done a good job so far, I guess he deserves that break. I’m looking forward to the next phase and the liveblogs as well.

Say what you will about the Clips…but they have EJ showing out at the worlds, Blake Griffin set to dominate, Kaman putting up healthy numbers, a young Bledsoe, a young Aminu, and Baron (when healthy/motivated is still a great talent). I mean, at least there’s hope, right?

  • niQ Posted: Sep.2 at 2:04 pm
@JoeMama: Who said anything about the clips? And why do people call him EJ again?

Westbrook’s dunk when the guy fell in the key was nice.

EJ is for Eric, Jr. I guess that’s his nickname from when he was a kid since his dad has the same name. Kid is a beast though.

WHEN INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENTS GET UGLY: i saw today’s game between Russia & Greece knowing that there was a serious chance to put ourselves in a lose-lose situation. First of all both teams wanted to lose this game. The reason..? Whoever was going to lose would finish 3rd and avoid U.S.(definitely) and Spain (if France wins New Zealand) till the final. It is a big prize BUT comes in the expence of your dignity. Both teams played to lose but Greece came out looking really bad cause a) succeeded in losing intentionally b) played in a way obviously different from what it plays usually c)Greece is a much better team than Russia and losing so easy made things even uglier. The irony is that France seems to have chosen the same path with the abovementioned teams and for the moment loses to an inferior New Zeland team(i ain’t watching the game and cant tell if it is intetionally). A possible loss sends Spain in Greece’s path and ,most important for the french, saves France from playing against Greece, a team that has always beaten France when matters in the last 25 years…Whatever the final result, Greece comes out ridiculized (nobody will say anthing for Russia since it won) and (in the case France also loses to New Zealand) all these would have been for nothing since we play against Spain…..

great,…and now France chooses to do the same (of course the didn’t wanted to face Greece in the same way we didn’t want to face Spain. Both teams have a decades losing tradition) leading us against Spain anyway….if we lose(which is the most propable), we will look REALLY bad now…. we get what we deserve….

NEW ZEALAND!!!!! YES! SCREW YOU JOHN HOLLINGER YOU DOUCHEBAG.

  • Ricochet Posted: Sep.2 at 6:53 pm
Listen, “annoying greek dude” (as it seems to be your codename around here), polluting this site with your greekocentric garbage is one thing but constantly slagging off the countries that bailed your sorry economy out is uncalled for. Your country is already infamous for the dreadful unsportmanship of its fans and you’re not helping one bit. I now expect an avalanche of “cartoons” and “my kids” in capital letters. Seriously, dude, grow up.

    What did Billups do?

  • nikehead23 Posted: Sep.2 at 8:03 pm
the u.s. isn’t looking that impressive so far, yeah they win, yeah they win big, but they don’t run any plays and turn the ball over 20% of the time

  • Darksaber Posted: Sep.2 at 9:21 pm
The Seed has the funniest tagline of these WBC-recaps so far: WDBD? Laugh every time i read that.

  • Darksaber Posted: Sep.2 at 9:30 pm
Greece vs Spain, first elimination round, YIKES. If Hellas decides to chuck up 30+ three’s again, they might as well just book their flights back home. Gotta work that in-/out game against a team with only one strong inside presence (Marc G). Guards are gonna cancel each other out. Time for Bourousis to stop chucking up 6 three pointers a game and get in the post consistently.

    @GIANNIS BOUROUSIS:
    You all should be proud.
You all are a part of a rich tradition. Your national team has great history.
Many of the players have had good careers, and great moments.
    You guys will be fine.

  • Squirrel7 Posted: Sep.3 at 4:14 am
Seriously, how fat is Kevin Love though?! And they showed the game over here in England, and I thought USA were sloppy. But I haven’t been impressed by anyone else really either, so they’ll probably take home the gold regardless.

  • Bdub Posted: Sep.3 at 5:08 am
Where is the love for the Tall Blacks SLAM? They are playing some nice ball.

  • Bdub Posted: Sep.3 at 5:12 am
    JOHN HOLLINGER is a muppet.

  • AussieCrawler Posted: Sep.3 at 5:30 am
Patty Mills will d.o.m.i.n.a.t.e the point position for Australia when they V`s the U.S Eventually. Only cos of size and being a pure 1. Well, dominate is a bit of a stitch, lets just say compete. Australia won`t lose to avoid playing the US. They can`t win it ( minus Bogut ), but they can try..
