Carlos Arroyo, Joel Anthony Round Out Heat Starting Unit

It’s official. Arroyo and Anthony will join Wade, LeBron and Bosh in the starting lineup for Miami. From the Sun-Sentinel: “Spoelstra confirmed point guard Carlos Arroyo and center Joel Anthony will start alongside James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh against Boston Tuesday. The Anthony decision was expected all preseason, but Arroyo outplayed Mario Chalmers to earn his role. ‘I’ve done what they asked me to do,’ Arroyo said. ‘It’s pretty much what I did last year coming into preseason games. I wasn’t here from the start [last year], but I knew my role and exactly what it was. I did my job.’”

Mario Chalmers can’t even be mad about this. He played poorly. The real question is how low do Arroyo’s shooting percentages go before House takes his spot?

Chalmers also has had injury issues throughout the preseason. Arroyo justs needs to move the ball, limit turnovers and hit the mid-range J when the floor opens. His D is the only problem…..it’s pretty awful. Chalmers is a better defender and an all-around better player, but Arroyo is a better option with this particular group and Mario turns the ball over too much. Joel just needs to rebound and defend. He’ll be fine.

Carlitos is way better then Chalmers and when he puts his country jersey on, it’s not even close

  • riggs

carlos only plays good when he does have his country’s jersey on

These Heat roleplayers are suspect. With Miller out, there is a severe lack of talent outside of the big three and Eddie House.

Real headline: “Two Nobody’s play alongside Wade, Lebron and Bosh.” And there shouldn’t even be any accompanying text with it ’cause no one really cares at that point.

and in the luc longley role – joel anthony! ron harper > arroyo though

E: Mario Chalmers is not even in the rotation at this point. There’s not enough minutes at the 1 for him and Eddie House to come off the bench. Eddie House offers 3-point shooting and guts. Arroyo offers steady ballhandling, a bit of flair and a good midrange J. What does Chalmers offer? Please don’t say defense.

The Heats roster is Ass!!! They have 3 steaks from Ruth Chris and the sides from a soup kitchen.

Not seen much of Arroyo since his Detroit days, but I remember was dribbledribbledribbledribbledribbledribbledribbledribble

Chalmers offers the best ooo weee this side of Minny! How long before Wade running point and Stckhouse enters starting lineup?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

T-Money, the only thing Mario has, over House and Arroyo, is defense. He’s a decent defender. He’s shown flashes of being a really good on the ball defender, but then he has two week lapses. I’d be fine with them moving Chalmers at some point soon ,for nothing, just to open a spot for any PG guard that may be released later in the season that has a bit of a game.

E: I wouldn’t be surprised if after X-Mas, they start Wade/Miller/Bron with House/Stack/Jones off the bench and call it a day.

T, I think they’ve had that in mind for a while but Wade’s injury and now Miller’s have put it on ice. Lebron and Dwyane should be effectively ruining defensive schemes on the regular by that time.

I really despise Carlos Arroyo. He plays with this swagger like he’s waaaaay better than he actually is. He’s an average ballhandler, and average shooter and a horrid defender. Eventually they should start Mario so he can learn the NBA game better and strenghten those weaknesses.

Look how much Rondo improved over the last 4 years. He didn’t do it sitting on the bench. LeBron does most of the ballhandling anyway. Let Chalmers start, pressure the opposing teams PG and spot up around the perimeter.

If these 2 can’t succeed with the other 3 guys flanking them, then they should just quit bball altogether. They are going to get so many easy baskets.

Id be more worried about there inside game or lack of. Joel Anthony?

  • T-Money

Brion: their inside game will be Bron and Wade on the block bullying 2s and 3s. Not unlike Chicago back in the day.

  • Jose

Aw c’mon! Joel Anthony is not a bad player. He’s gotten better and better since he joined mia. I kinda get annoyed ppl sound like they dissin him. i know he’s not an elite/legit center like the rest of the L but he can get it done to a point

i say Joel is better at center than carlos at point i think point is there main weakness Joel be swattin n reboundin like a mofo..

  • maddog

Mario needs to be in the starting line up, let the Big Three coach Mario like the Big Three coached Rondo into what he is today. Watching Mario is averaging the same stats as Carlos even though he’s at bench. Plus Mario has some history with Wade and is really good friends with LeBron so the chances are Mario being the starting line up would do them good.
