Iverson’s Manager: Turkey Talks ‘Very Serious’

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

The Allen Iverson Saga really could be making its way to Turkey, after all. According to A.I.’s manager, Gary Moore, Iverson is very serious about signing on to play with the Turkish squad Besiktas Cola Turka.

Iverson isn’t expected to make a decision until week’s end, and Moore says that negotiations with a team in China aren’t dead either. For the time being, however, the $2 million (plus potential bonuses) offer is making Turkey sound mighty intriguing to the Iverson camp.

Yahoo! and the AP report:

Gary Moore, Iverson’s personal manager, said Monday night there are “serious talks” for Iverson to play with a Turkish team. Iverson, the 2001 NBA MVP, is negotiating with Besiktas Cola Turka for at least a one-year deal. “This team seems very interested in having him come play,” Moore said by phone. “Allen absolutely wants to play basketball. He has no hesitation going there if that’s the best opportunity for him.”

“We are in very serious negotiations with [Besiktas],” Gary Moore said. “Istanbul is beautiful from everything we’ve learned. It’s not that far from the U.S., and the competition is good which makes it all attractive. Allen wants to play basketball.”

Neither Allen Iverson or his agent Leon Rose have commented on negotiations with the Turkish team.

The Answer in Istanbul. Sounds like a highly-watchable reality television show, no?

People need to stop thinking AI has a place in the L, he was a good scorer but has NEVER made his team mates better nor has he ever won a ring. He is not a point guard and will actually struggle in Turkey as they play very team orientated basketball and do not take s”t which he will try to give. He will underestimate that league and not take it serious there fore even if he does go hell be back by christmas. Hes dont so all the people who are pleading his case for an team in the L to pick him up you guys need to let it go. Besiktas arent even at the highest level in europe the dont even play euroleage so bringing him isnt even a basketball move they could just use the press and exposure.

damn, what happened yesterday? id guess some slam writer went at dude hard. id guess crawford. what happened??????

  • The Philosopher

    Damn.
The Greek brethren were really cool.
I respect ANYONE who has made a living playing professional basketball on any level at any time.
Then, people wonder why the pros are such asses to everybody.
We give them an open invitation.
“Come on in.” “Be an ass.”
    Anyways…
Big shout out to the Greek brethren.
    Can’t even blame him…

  • The Philosopher

I, personally think someone posted in his name.

  • http://google c_cantrell

^Philo.. we dont even know if he really played pro ball tho n i honestly could care less if someone else posted that in his name he has been annoying since he started posting on this site

  • The Philosopher

All you have to do is click on his name, man.
And, there is something for everybody.
    PAPALOUKAS is my guy.
    They all were cool.
    That whole team…
Man, you’d better look them up.

  • http://sdjfklf.com Jukai

    @VisionofGreatness: …. are… are you being serious?
    Okay, scenario:
You are the perfect role model at work. Always nice, great guy to be around, perfect in the coffee room.
You tell your boss you are too grief stricken to go into work because of your sick daughter, and then your boss catches in partying it up in a nightclub.
What do you think would happen to you if this happened?
Would you still be considered a perfect role model if this happened?

  • The Philosopher

For those who think they were so “annoying”, and what have you, I’ll say this.
I can vouch that many up here consider themselves with high regard intellectually. See themselves as learned, and smart.
    Self righteous.
If some people were so “learned”, then dealing with different personalities, ESPECIALLY on the internet should not be such a chore.
    This is worldwide, brethren.
Not some little back yard in a corner somewhere.
There are worldly views up here. Not everyone is trapped in a bubble.
One can argue that some people on these very threads have never taken the time to even view another person’s opinion from an angle that is not their own angle. Never have put themselves in another one’s position.

  • http://google c_cantrell

i have looked at things the way he does but still dude is absolutely annoying.. almost as annoying as u sometimes

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

@Philosopher: Wait…are you telling me that you think greek dude was actually a pro just because his name links to a baller’s page? The dude went by several aliases during his time on SLAM and all of them linked to different baller’s pages. I mean, I could link my name to Michael Jordan’s page, but you wouldn’t think I’m Jordan would you? But besides that point, being a “pro” doesn’t excuse anyone from being an ass.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    what happened yesterday?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I think your first guess was right.

  • hammer

Co-sign cantrell. Fotsis main argument was that AI’s hof status wasn’t a sure thing. That’s why he got flack from a lot of commentors, including me. I don’t hate the guy. I don’t even know him. But 2 say that bout AI,n my mind spoke of either ignorance or hatred towards AI. Like I said yesterday,u can like or dislike AI or think whatever bout him,AI is a hofer. And fotsis refused 2 believe that. And it became annoying. But what’s done is done

  • VisionofGreatness

    @lorenzo
He doesn’t have to be a pass first point guard…because he’s a two guard. There are plenty of players in the league now who don’t make their teammates better and don’t have rings. The fact that a man with the career that AI has had cannot get one offer from not one team in the league is a disgrace, no matter how you cut it. He should not be playing in Turkey, China or anywhere else besides the NBA. Period.
And who cares if Fotsis used to play or does play or whatever? His comments about AI and everything else on here are idiotic, plain and simple.

  • The Philosopher

    M Cho:
I could be wrong about him being a pro. I didn’t know he posts with different names. I believe all of the Greek guys use each of their names, and post as each other…
But, he did act like a pro.
From my experiences with pros, anyway.
Also, not to flame, but I did not say being a pro gives one a pass to being an ass, I was just saying that we give them an invitation to be an ass.

  • The Philosopher

Many of us want to “make a name” for oneself trying to humiliate a pro, and people go out of their way to try to make that happen.
It HAS to be bothersome to them.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Nah Philospher, it’s the same dude using different names. He might have played ball back in the day, but none of the names he’s used are his name.

  • The Philosopher

    Damn.
    Well…
    It is what it is.

  • The Philosopher

Call me naive, but are you sure that one guy posted in all of those names?
Hell, might start doing that sh1t. lol
    Kidding.

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

@Philosopher: It seemed pretty obvious to me that it was one guy. Unless all those different people all called Iverson “Anna” and had the same terrible grammar and writing style with all the (annoying) parenthesis and ALL CAPS and the >>>>>>>exaggerations. I don’t have a problem with his opinions or viewpoint, I just had a problem with how never listened to other’s viewpoints while making outlandish comparisons, how he kept belittling other commenters and kept spamming his jibberish over and over again. Trying to read his comments gave me a headache — for real.

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

So…I was reading the alleged unprofessional incident yesterday and I reviewed again just now. Unless Ryne removed the questionable post, I didnt see anything directed at the Greek that came even close to the vitriol he is capable of spewing. The Greek Guy is like the person in your crowd of friends that always thinks he is the smartest, most bad-a$$ member of the crew, always mouthing off with no regard for REAL decorum…until he crosses a line and someone punches him in the face, promptly knocking him out. Then they all make fun of him for being a lame ass p*$$Y. Sometimes, you need to be put in yur place. Yesterday Spanny, you were that guy…and you are now pouting like a spoiled baby. Good Riddance.

  • MikeC.

I’m curious as to what happened. Can someone point me to the thread where this occurred?

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

Go to yesterdays thread on Iverson playing in Turkey Mike C. I think that is the thread they are referring to

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Could it be cause Bryan Crawford gave us his real name and was willing to share his email address?

  • MikeC.

I didn’t see anything on that thread out of the ordinary (for Iverson/Lebron/Kobe threads) except for what Enigmatic references.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

And if BC reads this, I didn’t mean to bust you out like that. My bad.

  • MikeC.

Unless something really hateful and inappropriate was said, and later removed, I didn’t see anything unusual on that thread. Just a bunch of passionate thoughts about a polarizing player.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

Final thoughts on the funny fella from Greece:
-He only means about 70% of what he says. The other 30% is just to make his point heard loud and clear
    -He knows basketball
-He knows how to press buttons
(You can only be annoyed at him, if you take what he says at face value)
    -He is funny.
All in all, I will miss his comments. He was something different and always elicited interesting responses.
And Brian Crawford, I admire your candor, but for your sake, you seriously need to chill. You’re like Rasheed Wallace. Unfiltered. It’s fun to watch, but us viewers have nothing on the line. You kind of do.

    Here the thread

@ Antonis Fotsis: I hope this isn’t really your last time commenting. It was good getting to talk basketball and read your comments, even if I didn’t agree with all of them. Good luck learning all those languages (including Zhong Wen!) and following basketball from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Peace, man.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

And everyone needs to chill out on these forums… When people are arguing back and forth it’s all over the INTERNET. NO ONE has the right to air people’s personal information, even if he/she is dissing your favorite player. When you think about it, all Antonis was doing is d!ssing Allen Iverson repeatedly–but when you really think about it, who cares? Tonnes of people diss Allen Iverson. He’s a player. We’re fans. Get over it. Nothing typed was personal. Airing someone’s information–that’s personal.

  • http://slamonline.com Kieran

I still remember when Greek dude said that JR Smith, yes, JR Smith. Could have led the 2001 Sixers to the finals.

  • Leonel

Wow.. kinda funny that Antonis is getting more mention in the comments section than AI. Well, best of luck to you both.

  • aidee333

    i miss ai already

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

I don’t believe for one sec that Spannu/Fotsis is done. For years i read his comments and shared many of his views, it never got personal between us. I’d often implore him to be less insulting towards other adults in this forum (his kiddie remarks and belittling others perceived education/upbringing) but we were cool. He began attacking me and my opinion when i stated that one of his Greek national players, ironically Fotsis, was a dirty player imo. this was shortly before the WBC’s and he then proceeded to call me dishonest, pathetic, a kid (i’m 36 next week and have been playing since i was 15) and intellectually inferior, among other things. Now i’m a hotheaded guy and those insults really pissed me off but i tried my best to keep our arguments civil. Yesterday, on the Iverson post i had not even commented on, the guy started calling me out and linking me to a german team i don’t even like. This goading prompted me to go right back at him in a personal manner. BC joined in and took away Greek guys only forcefield here, his anonymity. Uncool maybe, but with his obnoxious, insulting, overbearing and spamming attitude, Spanny brought this upon himself.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

i read the comments from the post, unless stuff was deleted, i didnt see anything too bad. crawford calling him by actual name might be bad, depending on how he obtained the info. threatening to post his email was def bad. those things are def unprofessional, but not to extreme. i dont know if something else was posted, then later deleted.

  • http://www.nba.com Darksaber

on a humorous note, this might be one of the funniest NBA commercials yet: http://youtu.be/v8B6ELypfIU
I couldn’t stop laughing. Boozer and KD were too damn funny.

  • Mike from Spain

I am no fan of greek dude’s comments, sometimes he posts like… 100 comments in a thread and transforms it into his monologue, and what he says is usually things like “KG >>>>>>>> Bogut, Anna to play in Turkey” which really don’t make anyone better informed or a meaningful argument…

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

All I know is, I would much rather read B.Crawford’s comments than many, many other peoples on here so I hope ya’ll aren’t giving him the hiatus treatment over the greek guys baiting and trolling. Honestly, the greek guy was text book violating the “commenting rules” here at slam, so maybe if there was more actual enforcement of those rules (especially with someone like the greek who violated most of them in a run on sentence in one post)then it would not have gotten to this point. The fact that he had to point out that he thought it was unprofessional and it insulted him and that SLAM apologized just reinforces my perception of him as a spoiled little brat (a Kiddie?) who has t point out how he is always right (even when everyone wants to punch him in the face for how wrong and disrespectful he is). The greek dude was like the Eric Cartman of SLAM online…when his own actions brought upon some serious Karma, he managed to spin it somehow into his favor (at least in his own mind). I have never really mixed it up with greek dude and although I found some of his comments worthwhile, I mainly just wanted him STFU! Or at least tone it down. You reap what you sow. The only person who created this situation was SPanny himself so…spare him the sympathy everyone…it just encourages him.

  • JD

    to that Antonis guy
What do you mean make fun of the Euros? I dont think you realize how many Europeans there are on this site(me for one) and anyway Barca beat L.A so we could make fun of you for that and that argument would have more substance

  • Elvis Freshly

Another great player that will never see an NBA TITLE, and the list continues…

  • Elvis Freshly

@JD wow.. you beat them in a preseason game.. ooooh tayyyy(buckwheat)

  • http://sdklff.com Jukai

The only rule BC broke was THREATENING to reveal his e-mail, which he never did.
There’s no rule that says real names wont be published.
On the other hand, Spany broke countless rules for personal attacks and trolling.
    Good riddance.
Also, Philo, c’mon bro! You couldn’t figure out Spanny was one disgruntled Greek fan? He never claimed to be any of those players, and actually revealed a lot about himself quite a lot (he played basketball, but it appeared to be amateur or semi-professional). He never was in any professional league.
For someone who gave me a 45 minute diatribe about trusting no one, you fell for that one pretty bad.

  • http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?pcode=BEZ&clubcode=PAN&seasoncode=e2010 ANTONIS FOTSIS

Look, if the question is whether or not i have violated the conversation rules here i say that i have done so 100% and many-many times. To the question “why i was never banned” i always thought that this happened cause ALWAYS i’ve been attacking guys ONLY after i’ve been provoked repeatedly from the other part(but maybe i’m wrong). The bottom line is that there is a HUGE difference between banning/insulting/whatever somebody in a virtual forum and going on and publishing part of his/her personal data.It was not my name, it was a part of my e-mail address (that Bryan considered it to be my name). To me this is serious, this is on a completely different level(believe it or not i ALSO wanted through this to protect in a way others in order not to have similar problems in the future). Anyway, tihs now belongs to the past.
P.S.: There were some posters that i have attacked in the past, (Eboy a million of times,Philosopher, tealish, teddy, etc) that were able to see ABOVE&BEYOND their justified dislike towards me and see the BIG PICTURE and what was at stake. This doesn’t change their opinion towards me and my ideas. BUT it does say SOMETIHNG about them. Now, does this really matter? i think that in a place were you never actually meat somebody( and everything is virtual) PROPABLY not. But,luckily there is also real life and some certain human characteristics usually are aproprietelly awarded.
