LeBron James on Fan Anger: ‘You Have to Get Over it’

James understands the pain and hurt that fans feel when their favorite players leave, but says they gotta let it go. ESPN has the quotes: “James said Thursday he can relate to why many fans, especially from his home state, continue to be angry at him. But he also said people upset with his decision to sign with the Heat need to move on. ‘If I was a fan and I was on the outside looking in, I could be upset a little bit if one of my favorite players left,’ James said. ‘Or if I felt like he betrayed us or whatever the case may be. But you have to get over it.’ James later tweeted that he was not speaking specifically to Cavaliers’ fans: ‘Let’s clear this up! I never said to the Cavs fans to ‘get over it.’ I’ve never and will never say anything bad about them. 7 years of joy!’”

Fans to LeBron: “You have to get over yourself.”

  • http://slamonline.com YKnot

That’s why people can’t have favorite teams anymore only favorite players. NBA has a higher turnover ratio than Mcdonalds.

  • randy watson

Geez man, its october 22, season starts on tuesday. Fans need to get over it and so does he.

  • Mike Mihalow

That’ll make them less angry at you, LeBron. Good job.

  • KB8toSG8

LOL @ LDR4. But I kinda agree with LeBron on this. Grow up! Its already over. No use whining over spilt milk for more than a fixed period of time LOL.

  • yea

    Kobe >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LeBron

  • Hammer

U say that u would never say anything bad about them. But actions speak louder than words lbj. I thought u knew this? Oh my bad. U got mav carter advising u

  • BBaller

Why? oh why? did he not just tell the Cleveland Organisation and their fans that he wasn’t going to return. Kept them in the loop, that’s all he owed them, He could of still toyed with Miami, NYC and Chicago to get all the fame, money, and any professional arrangements that he wanted.Has he ever acknowledged that point? He knew long before the 1st July that he wasn’t going back to Cleveland at least.
Even young JT21 has shown some humility and conceded some things over the past months, it’s called growth.Lebron has to accept that at least he could of told the Cavs. Then i’d welcome all the best for him.

  • Michael Whyte

I agree with BBaller and it hurts because I freaking love Lebron (and that does not mean i hate Kobe, i love the mamba too) but he should’ve told CLE. Dan Gilbert did a wonderful job at advertising his organisation, after the decision. He also encouraged the hate. Great job Dan, you douche.

  • Trout

The best thing he could have said when asked the question was ‘No comment’ or ‘I understand their anger’ but ‘No comment’ would have been smarter.

  • BBaller

I didn’t like the owners reaction either, he made more than enough cash off Lebron’s back, and their relationship was business, but the fans spent their hard earned money and time and deserved more.

Oh crap, not again — people have already discussed Lebron’s “Decision” to death over the summer.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Who cares, if anybody watched the game last night Lebron was playing like the Heat was his old Cavs, holding the ball too long, not getting Bosh involved. Lebron was trying to get his too bad, this is a bad sign for the Heat, also Bosh is not being used right. Bosh will get even less touches once Wade comes back. Bosh should have signed with the Bulls, to bad now. Bosh is being rupauled out of getting the right amount of touches and is just taking jump shots too much, because you never know when he will get the ball again. BOOK IT!!

  • vtrobot

But I thought he made his decision that morning of his prime time special? Ha ha ha. At least he’s now admitting that he understands why it was viewed as such a d*ck move by many. Every little thing he says these days is so overanalyzed and usually spun in a negative way. Everyone should be over it by now (even the white people). C’s are taking the game on the 26th. They’ll be looking to send a message.

  • Robb

I’m getting really tired of this. I don’t like Lebron but man, let this guy alone, he made a mistake and he’s paying for it, let’s turn the page please, he’s a fun player to watch, let’s enjoy it.

    Shout out @The Seed.

  • http://minusthebars.blogspot.com don

    It’s bigger than LeBron James.

  • J-MAC

@ The Seed Couldnt of said it better. Bosh was not getting enough touches. Also LeBron showed that he still cant close and why he NEEDS DWade. Did anybody see Mario get crossed up not once but twice once by Teague then by Crawford. Heat didnt look sharp.

  • IHaveADream

LeBron decided he was leaving in 2008, I’m not buying this bull about him deciding the morning of the day he had his tv show. I can’t wait to watch on December 2nd when he visits Cleveland. There will need to be a lot of security. He will need some bodyguards. That place will be reigning down some heavy boos on him and the Heat. The most loved man in Cleveland is now the most hated. He needs to keep his mouth shut and get rid of Maverick Carter. Just play basketball LeBron. No need for any comments if it’s not about basketball.

My mom always told me the best way to get over a girl is to get under a new one. Does this help?

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

Sick my duck lebron, you are in no position to lecture fans on how they should feel…

  • JTaylor21

You lebron haters are hilarous, you panic about a silly little pre-season loss where he scored the most points this prseason along with 11 rebounds but are quieter than a church mouse when kobe’s shooting 27freaking% in the preseason. See if I got on kobe for his sorry a** preseason y’all will be crying foul but I not going that route not yet at least.

    ^Remix em’ JT.

Co-sign Lebron, I had mad beef with the entire situation, I’m over it. It is what it is. The Heat will be dominant no doubt, but I can’t stress how important it is to get the ball outta Lebron’s hands. Watch yo @$$ Spolstra. Watch yo @$$.

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

LOL wtf is up with the bromance with the both of you anyway?

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

You not getting it, Lebron is holding the ball too long and not getting Bosh involved. Bosh is the key to Miami success. Lebron went back to the one man offense with the Heat last night. Kobe is shooting poorly, but I think he will get back to shooting better, don’t you. Lebron was looking for his too much, then his teammates became jump shooters and Bosh hardly got ball on post. Lebron is playing better than Kobe in preseason, is that what you want to hear, but Lebron has to realize that he join other stars and can’t do the one man thing no more. BOOK IT!!

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

And once again, Lebron spouses a completely reasonable premise, but comes off as a world-class d!ck. I sense a pattern.

  • The Philosopher

    I’ll tell the truth.
The King is losing a half step.

  • The Philosopher

Maybe it is just pre season sludge.

  • JTaylor21

The seed, there’s NO wade, his teammates were playing poorly all-night long, CB wasn’t shooting the ball well, so what do you want Bron to do? Not be assertive, sh*t if he did that kobe fanatics and the haters would be crying that he doesn’t take over games. See you don’t understand the game of basketball, your lover kobe does it all-time when Gasol is hurt and not playing, Pip did it when MJ was racking up strikeouts faster than andy dick at the playboy mansion. That’s what great players do when their teammates struggle. When wade returns for the regular season you will see the “magic johnson” bron return, so kill that noise it’s just the preseason.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

I expect ESPN and all the other sports media outlets to do it but c’mon SLAM…are you really gonna misquote the man like that???? smh

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

JTaylor21, your right it was pre-season. However, lie to me and say both the Hawks and Heat weren’t going-in as if it was a regular season game with playoff implications.

  • The Philosopher

    Shout out to Joe Francis.

  • Zack

Everyone is hating on Bron. The Cavs weren’t getting it done. Point blank.

  • T-Money

The Seed: Bosh is averaging 16 ppg in only 27 minutes in the preseason, way to single out his worst game. LeBron didn’t seem to mind letting him rock when he had a 20 point quarter vs. NOH. Newsflah: LeBron handles the ball more when he’s playing with James Jones and Mario Chalmers than when he’s with D-Wade and Mike Miller. Let’s overanalyze a preseason game.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

Also, you don’t know how to advocate for Lebron without dropping someone else’s name; Which is odd to say the least. Your like the SLAM version of The Game.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    Shout out to the preseason

  • IHaveADream

Reggie Miller said it last night…D-Wade will have to be the guy on this team. He’s the closer. The most aggressive player. He will be option one, LeBron will be the playmaker and Bosh will get whatever’s left. The shooters better hit shots. They will struggle against the Celtics, Magic and Lakers because of their size problems though. Can’t wait for Tuesday.

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

Shout out to the shout outs
