Rajon Rondo: Out To Prove He’s Best PG

Well, he’s already worked himself into the L’s Top 5 PGs in the SLAMonline Top 50. From the Boston Globe: “A year ago, Chris Paul was considered the top point guard in the NBA. Rondo disagreed so much that he got in Paul’s face after the Celtics routed the Hornets in an early-season matchup. ‘People know who I am, but that’s not why I play,’ Rondo said. ‘I play the game to prove to everybody amongst my peers that I’m the best.’ Not Chris Paul. Not Deron Williams. Not Derrick Rose. Maybe Derek Fisher. ‘He’s the only person that’s got more rings than me,’ said Rondo.”

Saw CP3 at a Hornets open practice/scrimmage today and dude was looking nice. You gonna have to bring it to be better than CP3, Rondo. When a guy is truly the best, he doesn’t have to say it. There will be enough people out there to say it for him. Tsk, tsk, Rondo.

  • Big E

Heck, I’m still waiting for Rondo to average more than a 70% free throw percentage.

  • Big E

@BH-Collison put up those nice numbers but he went 14-23 in 37 games as a starter. Put up nice numbers but didn’t know how to win. And Collison turns the ball over a lot. If he did that last season, wait until teams start game planning for him. He might very well average 4 to’s per game this season. CP3 is going into a new system this season and I’ll bet he’ll still be better than Rondo. Shut your mouth Rondo and play ball.

JTaylor…thank you for proving your idiocy yet again. Marino is better than Montana? Wow, you continue to climb up the mountain of ignorance to heights mere mortals cannot achieve.

rondo can only hit fastbreak layups, no jumpers, no fts. his defense is overrated, yea he gets steals, but ai style steals, rondo sucks at guarding straight up, very good rebounding pg tho. get real, rondo is maybe 5th best pg. and rick kamla, rondo hitting those threes in horse was a miracle, or durant sneezed on him.

i would go for Derrick Rose but he’s still showing potential, i mean now with Carlos Boozer he should at least average 10 assists this season…

Sure, he’s the best point guard AFTER ball games, when guys like Chris Paul are shaking hands with guys like Paul Pierce, and Rondo gets in their faces to rub in their faces the win Ray Allen gave them.

    Faces.

Rondo is arguably number 1… I think he’s the best athlete in the League because i’m sure he can be the most effective in different professional sports (baseball, football, track) Dude can b like Deon Sanders if he really wanted to.

  • jarrett

but to say Rondo isnt top five is insane. If the Celtics won the chip he wouldve won finals mvp

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

WHEN WILL THIS FOOLS STOP PUTTING ROSE ON CP3 AND DWILL LEVEL?! ITS NOT CLOSE DUMBA$$ES!!!

i love his game, but this comment reminds me of the 2k11 ad and just leaves a bad impression of him being a show off

I like this, this is the reason Rajon Rondo will be an all time great to me. He is already the best defensive point guard in the league, which is very important to winning games. He can score and get people the ball, he almost average a triple double against the bulls in the playoff series. No other point guard in the NBA has came close. I like Rajon, game because I feel defense is more important than scoring personally. Alot of people can score, but who can shut down their player and still have an all around game. Collison came in and put up CP3 numbers, the reason they did not win, because players game up and alot of them were injured, so to me CP3 is getting overrated. Especially if Collison comes in at Indiana and still looks good. Deron to me is the best point guard in the league, but he plays no defense and relies on scoring to much and sometimes does not get his team involved, but overall he can do anything offensively better than Rondo and CP3. Nash is not in the conversation to me, and Derrick Rose is playing great, but lets see him pass better and do it consistently for some more seasons first. People are to quit to annoint players as the second coming for three good seasons. Let them prove themselve. Rondo is moving up, just watch him play and realize that in 08, he was the MAIN difference in why the Celtics beat the Lakers, not anybody else. Rondon is becoming a more complete guard that anybody else in the NBA, because of his defensive prowess, and he can score, but he likes to pass and set people up, once he gets his jumper down, it will be hard to argue him not being number one. This is coming from some one, who hates the Celtics, but understand that Rondo role is different, so he is depended on to do more than just score and pass to get numbers, he is to me the best all around point guard in the NBA. BOOK IT!!!

D-Train may be the smartest person here.

And @ Big E — I’m trying to understand your logic. Initially, it seemed your opinion, and most people’s opinion, was based on stats. But when answering the “Collison argument,” you referenced wins. That what nerds call an “inconsistent rational basis.” If you’re opinion is based on win pct, Rondo’s clearly the best (Fish is out because he’s a role player and Big E already explained that). If you’re basing your opinion on stats, then some serious questions need to be answered. Specifically, we need to know what type of numbers Rondo would put up in a PG friendly system; we need to think about the kind of damage Rajon would do if he ran pick n roll 80% of the time like CP, Deron, and Rose do, or if he just ran like Nashty. My prediction: not only would Rondo live in the paint in those systems, he’d put up Magic numbers. Silly numbers. Seriously. Look at those hard, unchangeable facts again and let them change your mind.

Rondo’s confidence has nothing to do with playing for the Celts. He was this way when he was at KY…he was this way before the Big 3 got there. Rondo is a player that believes in himself a heluva lot more than ya’ll believe in him. I applaud it.

  • Sunny Wiims

Rondo is top 3 pgs hands down …he was the best player for celtics in the playoffs …he is one of the most unstoppable pgs in the open floor and his overall numbers speak volumes on his contribution to the team… cp3 is nice but missed most of last season with injuries so i dun kno if he will return to the mvp-esque cp we know him to be ….steve nash is the best passer in the league …dwill n drose are the best scoring pgs….but rondo understands the concept of a team not individual stats but playing within the team system and producing and help your team win..so in my specific order:
    west pgs
    1.Dwill
    2.S.Nash
    3.Cp3(if healthy)

    east pgs
    1.Rondo
    2.D rose
    3.Jennings

    overall pgs
    1.Dwill
    2.Rondo
    3.Nash

I just like the fact that most of you who said he sucked just a year ago are debating whether or not he is in the top 3 to 5. lol. That in it’s self makes me laugh. You all have valid and somewhat valid points but don’t throw the whole “playing with 3 HOFers” in the mix unless you look at the other side of things like scoring and assists. What I mean by that is if CP3 or DWill were on the C’s their scoring would be down and probably their assists too b/c they would not have the ball in their hands 95% of the time like they do now. Maybe RR’s scoring would be like theirs if he had the opportunity to shoot at will or maybe not. I’m not saying he is the best PG yet (especially since his J and FT’s need improving) but he does bring to the table a few things they don’t and he has gotten the best of both of them head to head more than the other way around.

  • BostonBaller

As far as RR getting in CP3′s face I believe it was a two way street and both players had been jaw’n throughout the game but ppl will believe and convince others to see their side. RR was not innocent by any means but let’s not make CP3 out to be a saint. I’m sure it will forever be known as Rondo talks smack to CP3 about rings and nothing negative will be remembered about CP3. I’m sure most remember Danny Ainge hitting Tree Rollins then biting him right? Wrong, it was the other way around. Tree hit him then Ainge tackled him then Rollins bit him…but no one believes the truth. I digress. lol

The only weakness in Rondo’s game is his mid-to-long rang jumper. In Game 7 of the Finals he freakin air-balled a shot from the key. He’s the only elite PG i know that coaches aren’t afraid to send to the charity stripe(His post-season average of 2010 was a staggering 59% from the free throw line)

  • vtrobot

I’d never seen the Geico Horse footage. Makes it seem like Rondo is a great shooter. The game-time jitters must really fuk with his shot. KD is just ill. And Rondo is one of the best PG’s in the league, will continue to get better and should have a great career. He’s THE BEST PG (at some things) and THE WORST at others. Oh, and how are CP3 and doing w/o HOFers on their teams? Yeah, somewhat like RR was doing prior to KG and Ray’s arrival. People’s TOP 5 PG lists are nonsense. You see what you want to see and you use numbers which may or may not even be relevant to back up your claims. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and it’s hard to say who’s truly better than who. Boston Baller continues to speak the truth. It will be funny if MIA comes to town and humiliates BOS to start the season. Don’t think that will happen tho.

  • Blackphantom

    My Top 5 PG list.

    1-Chris Paul
    2-Deron Williams
    3-Rajon Rondo
    4-Derrick Rose
    5-Steve Nash

  • Blackphantom

I accept criticisms since i didn’t put much much thought into it

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

If he was drafted by the Warriors he’d be irrelevant.

  • http://thosefishtacosarethetits.blogspot.com Boston_Blogg3r

I wish Rondo would get traded for Chris Paul. Rajon would be so humbled when he doesn’t have a team of All-Stars surrounding him, and Chris Paul would thrive in a system with talented players to pass to. Rondo’s ego is going to be his downfall.

  • Joosh

RONDO!!!! yea i like the attitude, “hes the only guy who got more rings than me” haha yea
