Rudy Fernandez’s Agent: Don’t Make Fun of My Client

Gerard Dames, who reps Rudy, went on the offensive and tsk-tsked media and fans in Portland for criticizing his sensitive client (who has made it clear that he wishes to return to Europe). Blazers Edge has the details: “First of all, I don’t think anybody has the right to make fun or joking about a human being wishes and desires, and nobody can evaluate how fine or how sad a human being is being far from home, friends and culture. Nobody can blame any little thing about Rudy practice and attitude. He has been playing in every practice that he could. He apologize to the staff and to the owner if anything he said hurted them during the summer. He said what he desire clearly in media day and he cannot say it again and louder because the NBA already fined him, but is clear which are his sensations. Also, as he said, is not getting used to the NBA system, he likes the European style of game better.”

If you don’t want to be made fun of you should never, EVER, say “don’t make fun of me”.

  • hammer

I can c how rudy would miss playing n his home country and away from his family. He does have a point there. People got 2 recognize that @ least. But besides that I hope and pray my blazers get rid of him. This has been dragging ALL f****n summer. I’m officially sick and tired of this cat. And don’t trade him 2 my bulls neither. Send his @ss back 2 europe or sum bottom dweller here n the L

suck it up, finish your contract, and then go home…its your fault for signing a multiyear deal

  • MikeC.

I gotta start making my sensations clear at work. Then beg people not to make fun of me. That’s how respect is earned.

He’s not dedicated to Learning the NBA game enough… but hes still a star

  • The Philosopher

Fernandez may be one of the softest players in NBA History.

  • Robb

    He’s a f****** wimp!

Rudy can retire at any time.
He just can’t play basketball anymore.
So, if he wants to go home and hang out with his folks, then he’s free to do that at any time.
He just won’t be going to play for a Spanish team while the Blazers have his rights.
    Seems fair.

Why bother in having enemies if you can have an agent like this?? He’s embarrasing his client in a way I hadn’t seen before in the NBA….
Anyway, Rody reminds me of Petrovic, both played in Portland, both faced a coach who didn’t want them, both played in the same position as Blazers star at the time… and both were World Champs with their National Team. Rudy is much better than most people think, but he NEEDS the coach to trust in him. He has leaded teams to titles. This is just sad.

  • Mike from Spain

I am kinda disappointed with Rudy… He could have been great but I fear he’s missed a great opportunity. He might feel genuinely bad from being so far removed from home. He did not find the strength to overcome the possible obstacles he has found (injuries, a coach that doesn’t favour his playing style, a team with the star in his position, so he has little chance to be a starter, etc etc)and now he’s using a classic coping mechanism, blaming it on the NBA style. I am very sorry that he’s made too rash a decision. But I doubt that he’s as whiny and as lame as you picture him, I am just sorry that he has not been able to reconsider all this and go for an alternative but still in the NBA.

This dude is the BIGGEST p*ssy to ever play organized sport in history. if this was an american player that was pouting and having his agent defending him people and the media will be all-over them but when this b*tch does it no one criticizes him. F*ck Rudy, take your sorry a** back to europe.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

What a wimp.. Rudy ” Daddy,(sniffle) the kids at school are making fun of me”. Dames- “Don’t worry, I’ll call all of their parents and put an end to this right now”.

  • webstarr

I agree the dude should finish out his contract, for sure. Europe isn’t going anywhere. But if you’re wondering why he doesn’t dig America, maybe you need to look no further than these arrogant f*cks calling him a p*ssy.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Shoulda traded him when we had a chance… Hes not gonna get any playing time behind Roy and Matthews.. Maybe this was the Blazers master plan.. Sign another shooting guard to punish Rudy for being such a whiny little B-Hatch..

  • http://www.acb.com Alan

@JTaylor21: I’m beginning to think you are not capable of posting anything without insulting somebody… LOL

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

I understand his desire to go home, but why did he enter the NBA draft in the first place? Same can be said for Rubio, the get to the pros and land on 2 teams they dont want to be on (For completely different reasons Wolves- expect alot of playing time, and help make this team respectably. Blazers- expect some playing time, not alot to try to help take this already good team to the next level).. It seems they expected to be handed a important position on a contending team, like Pau..

“likes the european style of game better” translates to, “likes not being terrible,” “enjoys the spotlight,” or “can’t deal with not being an elite player”

  • T-Money

Allenp raises a good point: if he wants to go back to Spain, he can do so at any time. He just won’t get to play for anybody else for the next 2 years without the Blazers consent. And let’s be real about what the “european game” is: consitent minutes and lots of shots for Rudy. You never hear Dirk, Pau or Manu complain about the NBA style of play, do you?

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

did anyone just gain 2x more respect for Pau…I mean there’s Rubio, Rodriguez, Fernandez, Navarro, and all of these guys who’ve decided to skip out on the NBA and theres a guy like Pau who was spent almost a decade of his prime playing for the Grizzlies, the perenial bottom dwellers of the league, and he never flaked out like the rest of these guys…he stuck it through and now he’s got 2 rings to show for it, thats called being a champion…them other dudes are girls

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I don’t know if he can just sit out for two years. The Blazers might hold his rights indefinitely unless he fulfills the terms of his contract. Even he sits out of basketball for two years it might not matter unless he plays two years for them. I’m really not sure.
But, either way, he has a clear path back to Spain. I hate when people ignore the obvious to make themselves look more sympathetic.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

When Pau was on Memphis and healthy they were a playoff team. The Spaniards with issues in the NBA are the ones that aren’t “as good” or comparable to their relevance in europe. Its pretty simple, these guys grow accustomed to their level of dominance, fame, and reliance from their teammates. Moving to the NBA essentially puts them on even ground with everyone else, except they are generally older and less athletic coming from europe to the NBA rather then college to the NBA.

But is clear which are his sensations. Wtf ! Where is this dames guy from? Is he a dame. No wonder rudy is pissed, his agent probably told him the blazers want him start to and get minutes many please. This looks like the source of rudys problems

  • http://slamonline.com Yknot

You guys are being too hard on Rudy. I work with people all day who wish they could go home and be with their families. Sometimes my supervisor lets them go without reprimand too. Did I mention I’m a Kindergarten teacher?

  • Michael

    f*ck this punk

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

OH yeah ya’ll get paid millions of dollars to teach kindergarten? You make enough money to go home on weekends? take your family on unlimited vacations? move your family to your new city, and they don’t even need to worry about work? This is not comparable to a job away from home. This is doing what you love, while being rewarded handsomly while only being busy 8 months out of the year.

  • wilz

“HURTED”, really, hurted! hurt is the word. does make it sound more childish but i doubt he said hurted..

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I don’t care about the money.
I’m saying, if Rudy really wants to go home and doesn’t want to play in the NBA he can leave at any time. I don’t understand why this isn’t mentioned more often. He can retire at any time and be free of his contract and not be fined.
But, that means he can’t play ball immediately. It means he can’t play for another NBA team without the Blazers permission.
Nobody is holding him hostage. They are just aying that he promised to play basketball for them, and he can’t just leave them in a lurch while he goes to play for someone else. That’s like having a contract with anyone. Most people don’t have those kinds of contracts on their jobs.

Niq, SOLID simpsons reference. Now go trim those sideburns!!!

  • Mike

something tells me english is not his agent’s first language.
He apologize to the staff and to the owner if anything he said hurted them during the summer. He said what he desire clearly in media day and he cannot say it again and louder because the NBA already fined him, but is clear which are his sensations.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

    ¿®Mindblowing isnt it mike?

  • The Philosopher

If he retires, he might get blackballed. lol

  • JoeMaMa

I don’t understand why they won’t just terminate his contract; I’m sure Rudy would go along with that. A bit of salary cap relief and everyone moves on. Otherwise it’s a distraction in the lockerroom and takes away from what the Blazers want to do this year. Am I off in thinking this?

  • Mike from Spain

How about the Lakers against Barcelona? What happened?

  • odp

mike from spain i agree im waiting for slamonline to put something up about that game.

    Rudy’s softer than a marshmellow

  • karley and kourtney

Personally I am huge Blazer fan and if Rudy wants to play in Europe than why should we give him crap. He is a very talented player and he should do what he wants to do.
