Von Wafer Wants To Make Celtics, Play Minutes
Those handicapping the battle for the final spot on the Boston Celtics roster think that Mario West and Stephane Lasme have the edge over Von Wafer.
Wafer, however, has his sights set on more than just making the team.
“I’m not just trying to make it; I’m trying to play, too,” said the 25-year-old who played overseas last season. “Just making it is not enough for me.”
Four games into the preseason, Wafer is averaging almost four points in 16 minutes per appearance. He’s working on bettering those numbers (and his defense), though.
“I’ve got to cut harder, play better defense,” says the man on the bubble. “I’m Just getting more familiar with where I’m supposed to be.”
While the 6-5 guard still has a shot of making the team, he has little hope of playing meaningful minutes behind Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, Nate Robinson, Avery Bradley and Marquis Daniels.
