Joakim Noah: Not a Kevin Garnett Fan

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

KG‘s enemies list seems to be growing on a weekly basis. It’s something that I don’t think he actually minds all that much.

Joakim Noah is the latest to publicly express his dislike of Garnett (who he idolized growing up), calling the Celtics’ emotional leader “mean” and “ugly”.

Yes, Joakim Noah called someone else “ugly”.

ESPN has the quotes:

Noah has gone from a fan who once had a Garnett poster in his room to someone who probably has a Garnett photo on his dartboard. “Kevin Garnett will not — will not — get a Christmas gift from me,” Noah said with a tinge of humor Wednesday on “The Waddle & Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000. “I don’t like him.”

The feud started, or perhaps escalated, during last season’s playoffs. After Garnett was suspended for throwing an elbow at Quentin Richardson, Noah — who was in Cleveland playing the Cavaliers — chimed in that Garnett was a “dirty player.” The most recent incident was Friday night in Boston when Noah received a technical foul, and afterward said of Garnett: “He is who he is.”

“He’s a very mean guy,” Noah said Wednesday. “Where’s the love? None at all. Ugly, too.”

Noah goes on to make the same accusation of KG that all of his detractors seem to: he picks on younger, weaker players. Oh, and guys from Europe.

The Bulls and Celtics don’t play again until December 3rd (and hopefully, in the Playoffs next Spring.) Something tells me Kevin Garnett won’t acquiesce and become a sweeter, more sensitive guy on the court.

joakim noah calls someone ugly…. ?

  • slamfan4life

Joakims fav player was KG lol funny how he hates him now, along with most of the NBA

  • Clay

Noah can call someone else ugly if KG can call others cancer patients when he himself is bald.

  • chazz michael michaels

lol this won’t affect KG, he isn’t worrying about nobodies anymore… remember?

  • http://www.twitter.com/clearheatvision Raj

    haha @Clay

    excellent point.

  • Martey

How about a Slam cover with Kevin Garnett under a western style wanted poster? a John Dillinger style Public Enemy #1 cover?

  • Hammer

I was reading this on last night on espn.com. It was funny. Especially the part of the interview where he said kg should be “a little sensitive. Be sweet”. But noah hits it right on the point. Cuz kg wasn’t like this,@ least not 2 this degree,n ‘sota. Kg has always been intense, especially his post-jam hollas, when he was younger. But this kg has gone overboard. And I still like kg tho. He is the main reason why I watch the c’s. But he’s gotta tone it down tho. But that aint happenin

  • http://bulls.com airs

this sounds like a great rivalry in the making. well, if KG can play like he used to it wouldve been…

  • perkisabeast

A one-sided rivalry. Noah would love to put himself in the conversation with a future hall of famer.

  • CyldeSays

I like Noah. He plays hard, knows his role, has crazy hair, is kinda funny, etc. But the talk? Let’s see a few seasons of at least 15ppg, 10 boards and a few blocks before he calls people (and cities) out.

And KG is back. I only expect him to get better as the season progresses and the Center rotation gets figured out…

  • riggs

have any of yall actually watched any old Minnesota games? because the way people talk around here about KG is like yall just started watching him when he joined the celtics. Oh and joakim noah? when you become relevant in the nba for anything other than being overhyped and your mouth then you can talk, thanx.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

I think there was a clip on youtube of KG hitting Noah’s balls. Forgot if he has kneeing or literally hitting but I’m sure Noah had never liked KG…

  • j-nice

NBA – where REAL drama happens.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/ Diesel

@perkisabeast – right now, this season, Noah is a better player. Check the stats. And I’m sick of people defending KG by saying he’s just intense. He’s not intense, he’s an @ss. There’s a difference. I’m also sick of people saying lots of players talk trash…obviously kg is doing something worse when multiple players are calling him out. I have never seen another player in street clothes stand up and literally bark at a player during the game like kg did to Ben Gordon in the playoffs. How many times does the camera zoom in on kg after a routine rebound in the 2nd quarter and he’s dropping motherf*ckers and chest bumping like he just won championship?
Also can we all get out our “Noah called someone ugly??!!” comments now? I’m fully anticipating double digit comments like that and each of you will think you’re hilarious and the first to say it.

  • Clos1881

Co sign Riggs KG always has been like this and I love it. What has he really done besides calling Charlie a cancer patient, and Charlie was a sucker for crying on twitter playing the sympathy card.

  • pache

ugly? thats a funny joke from noah

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/ Diesel

Just so I’m clear too now, judging by some of your comments, if a player has a better career then you (to this point) you’re not allowed to say they’re a dirty player? So when kg hits Noah in the nuts he’s supposed to brush it off because kg is a hall of famer? I just need to make sure that your comments are as idiotic as I think they are.

@Niq, are you thinking of Ray Allen elbowing Varejao’s balls?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

If you think this KG is “new” then I question how long you’ve been watching the League.
You should see this one clip I had when I was in high school of KG dunking on somebody from the Pacers, pushing them down, and calling them every MFer in the book while running back down the court. Something “That MFeffing b*tch can guard me.”?” Dude has ALWAYS been like this, just on a smaller stage.
Hey, either you like it or you don’t.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

For the record, it doesn’t bother me.
When I played football, I talked so much trash I once got thrown out of the game for jawing. I told people I was their father, that they were b*tches. I laughed while blocking them, I punched people.
So, I have no room to every criticize another player for talking trash or being somewhat dirty. I’d be a hypocrite.

  • Javy

KG knows how to pick his enemies of course. He messed up with Anthony Peeler. One championship and the dude acts like he owns the NBA…Please!!!!
Somebdy please punch him in the face in front of national TV.
Justice for all the little players!!!!

  • psycho baller

    Who is this noah guy?
OOOh yeah I remember he used to play for the gators.
No one will ever put up a poster of Noah coz he’ll make your wall look UGLY!
Make noise when it lasts coz when u’re finished playing no one will care a damn about u’re dumb opinions sissy boy

  • izzo

It’s quite the coincidence that KGs growing list of enemies consist of power forwards who aren’t as good as him.

  • rikson

“When I played football, I talked so much trash I once got thrown out of the game for jawing. I told people I was their father, that they were b*tches. I laughed while blocking them, I punched people” -> Well… then youre an a$$ just like KG! Simple.

Could be. But the cats I was punking will remember me.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/ Diesel

Or you could be remembered for actually playing good and dominating them on the field/court ..you know, that crazy thing called a sport. @izzo – Noah is playing better than KG this year.

  • slamfan4life

Noah was CRAZY last year in the playoffs, and has been killin it right now…look up the stats people

Anyone who says Noah is overhyped/overrated doesn’t know shit about bball

  • westeves25

How many of you guys know KG off the court… Im i’ll go as far as saying how many NBA players know KG off the court.. Just cause KG is the #1 player @ playing with peoples minds during the game doesn’t make him an @ss…. So when the NBA turns into ice skating and you guy no longer have bad guys, you guys will beg for a player like KG again, to bring that antogony again…. discredit KG just because he picks on players that are “weak”… Since when do you trash talk to people who you know are as good as you or better than you….. Thus why it is called trash talking, cause your talking to people who are trash… Noah is always Barking up the wrong tree… until the tree falls on him….

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Yet another assumption from you. How do you know I’m not remembered for that?

If you’re going to talk trash, you have to back it up. Otherwise it’s meaningless. Everybody who played with me, knows I backed it up.
    Y’all boys sound soft.

  • Kevin

@diesel is the only one of you with any sense. If the Celtics ofered KG for Noah, the Bulls would laugh at them. Noah is a better player right now, and KG will get worse as the year moves on. Oh, and the idea that Noah shouldnt talk b/c KG has a better resume is stupid. KG is a punk A$$ and any NBA fan knows it, we didnt need Noah or Villanueva to tell us so. We can all read lips. Hell, its easy when its the same 4 words. Nice vocabulary KG.

  • slamfan4life

Noah has been killin all season, and was great in the playoffs

people calling him overhyped/overrated do NOT know basketball

  • dma

uh oh.. internet thugs are rearing their ugly heads on slam. sensitive thugs, y’all need hugs

  • Fat Lever

All of you saying that Noah shouldnt talk cause he’s done nothing in the NBA, check the stats so far this year. Last year 10ppg/11rpg/1.6 bpg in just 30mpg. He’s on the short list of the best defensive big men in the game. I’m not a Bulls fan or Noah advocate, but some of yall are talking completely reckless and not actually knowing what you’re talking about.

  • JTaylor21

For all you morons that are claiming that Kg is better than all those guys, maybe 5 years ago but at this very moment Noah is the better player. KG will be a HOF someday but that doens’t matter right now because it’s about “what have you done for me lately” and lately noah has been the best rebounding in the game and KG needs rondo more than rondo needs him. KG used to be my favorite player in sota and I still like him to a certain extent but he has let that celtic pride BS get in his bald head too much and actually thinks his sh*t don’t stink.

  • http://bulls.com airs

if you guys love KG, how can you not love Noah? his game is a lot like his minus that offensive skill KG has. Heart, pasion, defense, boards, intensity.

its just cuz he has a gap in his teeth and refuses to cut his hair.

  • LeBron de Con

KG is all mouth and elbows. When challenged by someone his size he yells while quickly back peddling away. He’s chicken poo.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/ Diesel

Allen – I’m speaking specifically about the game you mentioned. No one is going to remember you for your play. How could they if you were kicked out of the game? To the other team you’re most likely just the “idiot that got kicked out of the game.” I’ve gone up against guys like you in football and basketball plenty of times. No one’s more impressed by you than you are of yourself. I saw it a lot.
If not needing to talk because your play speaks for itself is soft, than I guess I’m soft.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Does anyone remember when he and Odom got into a scuffle and Odom smacked him on the ass? That was hilarious.

  • LeBron de Con

Remember when KG went up against Antonio McDyess? KG was trash talking while back peddling away as fast as he could. Chicken poo and ugly too

  • Riggs

@diesel: noah has better stats due to his team lacking any sort of big, taj gibson is looking like a stud because of the same reason. Also the only people talking sh*t about KG are the ones who dont do sh*t back on the court and lets him jaw at em.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I got kicked out of one game, at the end of the game. We play more than one game in football, and nowhere in your comment about people remembering me for my play did you specify you were only talking about one game.
I didn’t throw out that information about my past to brag. In fact, if you read my comment again you will find that I specifically say that since I did all of those disrespectful things in the past, it would be hypocritical of me to castigate a player for doing them now. I can’t throw stones at them for yapping, if I know I used to yap when I played sports.
Personally, I don’t have a big issue with people who talk trash. Nor do I have a problem with people who believe in letting their play talk. Whatever floats your boat I say. I know for a fact, that talking trash can get you hype, and by talking trash you are basically challenging yourself constantly to perform better to back up what you’re saying. Plus, I found it fun to taunt people and see them get frustrated. Hell, I did it to my own teammates in practice.
Some of y’all clearly think that’s the wrong way to play, and it’s disrespectful to the game. I don’t agree. Doesn’t make me right, but it damn sure doesn’t make y’all right. And anyone who is sayng this is a new thing, is silly. And anyone saying that Noah can’t complain, when his complaints were clearly tongue-in-cheek, is equally silly.
KG can say what he wants, and Noah can do that same. They both have the same freedom.

  • http://bulls.com airs

“chicken poo and ugly too” haha, from LeBron de Con. these rhymes are funny to me hahah

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/ Diesel

I actually agree with most of your last comment

  • EtheKnickfan

I like noah’s style but I’m sure KG thinks he is just cancerous to his team and the league.

  • EtheKnickfan

League gettin soft. Back in the day at ruckers they would have a dang cookout after a badass dunk. The cat on the mike would trash talk and he wasnt even playin. Screamin to cats they cant guard you starts early man, it helps the sorta good cats beat the pretty good cats if they do talk it right. Like a boxers stare, pure intimidation. You only have to back it up if runnin your mouth doesnt work. Always bring your A game suckas.

I bet half these people trying KG wouldn’t dare try in his Wolves days. Now that he got a little older, lost explosiveness and that the stats went down, everyone is on his d***. come y’all, give the HOF a chance and let bark till he retires.

  • Sparker

allenp, i talked a lot of trash too, but it was (more or less) because i couldn’t control my temper. i also felt guilty about it afterwards. and even though i had plenty of success in sports, i always thought the guys who stayed cool had it figured out. i was a team captain/ mvp in two sports, and won hs city championships in a third; but i think i would been a better athlete if i had mastered my emotions. don’t you feel that way at all?

ALLENP, you sound like you could back it up, but KG seems like a quiet dude, trying to be hard on the court. He still picks on lower tier guys and lets see if he goes after Noah, because Noah would be the HELL out of KG. BOOK IT!!

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon

KG is a pu$$yfied insecure pr1ck, and everyone knows it..fake toughness, fake intensity and an all around a$$hole.

  • Simon

cosign sparker 100%. the Talking, the uncontrolled temper, the guilt, a lil success. i was just like that. so i can Def. understand allenp but it still sounded like He was Proud to Be remembered As a dick. i always admired the Silent Killers that don’t Talk much and just let their Game do the yapping. im sure sparker would agree!?

  • Sparker

um, noah doesn’t scare anyone either

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Nah, I feel like I started dialing back after getting tossed from the game because in Louisiana sports you get banned for the whole year if you get tossed from two games for unsportsmanlike conduct. And, I think it hurt me more than it helped me.
Talking trash is fun if you’re confident you can back it up. I don’t always talk trash, but sometimes I do. And it adds pressure to your game, and that pressure is cool sometimes. It makes me work harder. Some people don’t need that. Good for them.
Hell, you see the trash my brother and I used to talk when we would spank folks in Taboo. People did not want to play with us after one time. I just like the feeling of talking trash and then backing it up.

  • Sparker

on the other hand, both are 7 footers who could crush 99% of you dudes like bugs. so there’s that.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I don’t know KG off the court. I don’t think you have to be a thug off the court to talk trash on the court. I was by no means a “thug” or “hard.” I wasn’t a punk, but I wasn’t hard. But, between the lines I was yapping, particularly if I felt like I was killing the person lined up across from me. I felt like they needed to know what I was doing to them from my own mouth, and I DO think that it affects the play of weakminded people.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Michael Jordan and Larry Bird are the most ruthless trash talkers in NBA history. But does anyone even know about it? NOPE – BOOK IT SEED, trash talk is part of the game, always has been, always will be. These sissy’s complaining about it to the media are bad for the sport, not the other way around.

  • Sparker

allenp, you and your bro talking taboo trash is a funny, funny thing to imagine

  • http://bassbesteck@wordpress.com Bassbesteck

i always do laugh at guys when i cross them over… cause I’m like 90 Kilos (dunno how many pounds that is) and 5’10”, so to get crossed over by me is pretty lame^^ but it happens relatively often and guys get oissed because of that and tend to get more agressive and then get crossed over a little more, cause they press too much… so it works without calling them out.
On the other hand: why not? Get the guy pissed at you, make him try harder. If you’re unlucky, he does and just owns you. But in 8/10 times, they will get worse, cause they rush… just my 2 cents

  • EtheKnickfan

Dont want trash talk? try tennis itchbays!

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/ Diesel

@riggs – noah gets back at kg during games. I don’t think he’s a b*tch like charlie. And I listened to the entire interview, it was light hearted and he was sort of led down the path to say what he said by the interviewers. I don’t thik its Noah complaining just to complain. trash talk if you can back it up. 15 and 10 to me is not backing it up…those are baby davis type numbers. KG is the 4th option on that team yet he’s the one doing the most talking. He comes off looking like a b*tch. he didn’t look like on ein minnesota because his game backed it up much much more.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

The thing about talking trash, is I have seen it lead to things of the court, so if you are going talk on the field or court, then you need to be able to back it up, if you are a thug or not. I can’t stand when people front on the court or field then get off, and forget some people don’t like it. KG seems like a herb, so to me one day, someone is going to get him off the court and I CAN”T WAIT. BOOK IT!!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

My homies from college still joke because whenever I would cross somebody up I would yell “Stupid” before shooting. Every time.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Just looking at what KG does offensively as far as stats, is wrong.
He sets the most picks, creates offense from his action with Rondo on the pick and pop, but also is a danger on the roll play. He is a great passer from the high post.
And he is the defensive anchor. Y’all are selling KG short. He ain’t the best power forward in the league, but he’s no bum. Some of y’all love to use pace in other arguments, so consider KG’s numbers according to the Celtics’ pace which has to be one of the slowest in the league.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I’m not like that now because I’m not that good anymore. Now I’m the old head who does the little things and keeps quiet.

  • http://Mrjones21901@aol.com Run’n'Gun219

I think gary payton should hold a trash talking seminar for young and european player. Because he was the best. Especially when his mouth would go to the side

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

KG’s an ass. I like that. He picks on weaker players because they’re the ones that ish-talking affects negatively. You talk ish to Kobe, Wade, Dwight, Artest, Big Ben, etc, and you’re likely to get embarassed in one form or another. So KG may be an a-hole or bully but he’s a smart one.

  • PapaBearATL

Psychological warfare! Your opponent is to busy being mad about whatever you said or did to focus on the days, month’s years of training that would actually help him compete. It’s part of being competitive whether its on the court or 2K11. Who is the last humble athlete you can think of? How many pro’s will say that someone is flat out better than them? If it trickles off the court then that person is an oversensitive @ss clown, not a thug and should probably step their game up, lol!

  • http://klatschendom.wordpress.com/ speedy

No one of those two have an upside in this rivalry right now. They are both complementary elements to their team pushing everybody with their actions. If it is scoring, rebounding or talking they both do the same things.
That is why I don’t understand Noah complaining.
If he would have played basketball in the 90′s he would have to face players playing a lot uglier than Garnett.
And who says Garnett couldn’t back his trash talk up isn’t understanding the game.

If you want to be the BEST at what YOU do, then YOU have to beat the Best of someone at what they do!!! I’d rather be pick on by someone who’s a hall of famer like KG rather than be pick on by CV or Pachulia, or anyone that is not relevant, me included and the rest of the people who subscribe for slam who can only talk that trash behind a monitor and a key board talking about how tough they are. I bet some of the people that be talking trash in here DONT EVEN PLAY BALL or WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN THEIR FRIENDS.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I’m a super nice guy and I know how it feels when people talk ish for no reason even your own teammates. Everyone doesn’t have it inside of them to be asses or accept someone being an ass to them.

I’m more of a let sleeping dogs lie kind of guy. Yeah trash talk can be used as a self motivator. It could also motivate the other guy. You can be concentrating on it so much that it takes you out of your own game too. Whatever – like it’s been said already, it all depends on personality. All I know is if I’m Ben Gordon and KG is yelling in my face, while in a suit no less, I’m back handing him across his pointy head.
As far as KD doing all the things that don’t show up on the stats – I think he’s good, but some of that stuff gets exaggerated. I think he looks like he’s doing so much more because he celebrates every play he makes.

Naw naw Joakim said that KG was ugly-ing up his team, the organization and the game itself” and Noah would never be offensive to those less pretty as he knows many ppl in that situation

  • http://sdjfklf.com Jukai

Allenp: I wont have a problem with you trash talking as long as you don’t have a problem with me punching you in the face when you cross the line. KG annoys me cause the dude will talk smack all day but once things get physical, he runs away like a woman.
Maurice Lucas hit it on the ball, all this trash talk nonsense would be OVER with if it was still a 50 dollar fine for hitting a dude.

  • Riggs

oh you mean like how anderson verajao gets praised for getting under peoples skin and then they get the tech while he walks away? its the same damn thing

  • Jeff H

You can say whatever you want about Noah but right now he is leading the league in rebounding at over 15 a game. Noah>Garnett

  • tRay

People need to really man up trash talking is to get you mad and off your game and obviously KG has mastered that so if you got a problem with dude then bust his a$$ on the court like Peeler did.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Trash Talking happens in every sport. Not matter how much hitting is involved. If anyone thinks fear of being punch would stop trash talking then you clearly don’t understand the male psyche in a competitive or high tension situation. If physical violence was the solution to trash talking then MMA fighters and Boxers would be mutes. And the only reason this is even an issue is because the people that can’t take/deal with the trash talk wine about it to the media. Then you people who have probably never done a thing in your life about someone talking trash act like you would do something when in all reality you probably talk trash and do nothing in just the same way in your everyday lives, whether it be playing video games or beating your siblings in shutes and latters and don’t even realize it.

  • Blackphantom

This doesn’t surprise me, I wouldn’t like someone that’s a little bit away from being crazy and that I’ve lost to twice in the playoffs either

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Trash talking can be fun, but you must know your audience. Example, a few years ago, some friends and I ran at a full gym. A couple friends of mine were talking lots of trash, and dudes on the otther team were getting salty cuz of that and we were killin em. I was the last one to leave and some fools tried me, I had to put two of em on the floor. . Another time I was playin pickup with a bunch of dudes at a court. Being the only white guy, they didnt expect much, but I was killing them, esp this one guy. I hit turnarounds in his face all game and just generally abused him. He got pissed and punted the ball onto a roof. Everyone was clowning him. Again, you must know ur audience. My favorite was of trash talking is after I block a shot, I give them the mutombo finger wag, and say in my best deke voice, get that shii out of here

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

It’s funny that they tried the white guy… It really is.

While on the subject, I must give credit to the best trash talker of all times. Not mike, larry, or the glove. All hail the LOUISVILLE LIP!!!! If you dont know who that is, slap yourself. This man was, by far, the greatest trash talker in the history of human language.

My estimation of the first trash talking in human history: ….. Uug: hey oog, u throw spear like girl. Oog: thats why oog pee in uug mammoth soup last night.

  • http://zoran_dakovic@hotmail.com RickyRude

Adding fuel to the fire, young man… just what the doctor ordered.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Allenp, in that particular instance, I was just the last one to leave, get some water, chill on a bench for a min. And I didnt even talk much trash that time. …. Its certainly a different experience being the only white guy hoopn with 20+ black dudes. Although, usually, I knew a few of them. Sometimes nearly all and sometimes none. As you might imagine, I wasnt passed to often, so I would really crash the boards and take it all the way. Then theyd see I could play and id get more involved in the offene. …. Its funny cuz when I played well, I was larry bird or kirk hinrich. But lawd help me if I was havn a bad shooting day, id be pat garrity, keith van horn, or just plain ol ‘sorry ass whiteboy’. Interesting how most black dudes think losing to a white dude is exponentially worse and more embarrassing than losing to a black dude. Ive seen some funny stuff as a result of this dynamic.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

It’s similar to the response many white people have to be intellectually bested by a black person. No matter what we all say, we listen and accept certain stereotypes, and use them to influence our worldview.
But, it’s not just white cats who get this. As a big dude, I’m automatically assumed to be garbage and it’s been that way since I started hooping. It’s only until I start doing my thing that stuff changes.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/ Diesel

You’re a big guy Allen? For some reason I pictured you looking kind of like a mixture of Spike Lee and Scoop Jackson. I’m being serious, not trying to be an idiot.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I played offensive tackle in high school.

  • JTaylor21

AllenP, by “big” do you mean Sherron Collins/Eddy Curry big or shannon brown big? Also people need to realize that no one is saying that players shouldn’t trash-talk because it’s part of the game and we all do it but what I’m saying is that why is KG always talk sh*t to himself and cursing all the time? You can see that ish on TV and it just looks like he’s a mental patient out there talking to himself.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Offensive tackle big. Like fat dude big. I’ve been a fat dude since I was five years old. Never stopped me from hooping though, the trick is just playing with skinny cats all the time.

  • Hammer

Yeah trash talk can b fun. Me and 1 of my homies used 2 trash talk non-stop. Wether it was 1 on 1 or 5 on 5 w/the rest of r,we always jawed @ each other. NUTHIN was off limits as 2 what could b said. We would go @ it all the time on the court. And we would never give each other credit 4 winning or doin well, but deep down we had respect 4 each other’s game. We certainly brought out the best n 1 another. It was hella fun

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

So people think KG’s a punk because he doesn’t get into fights? If you get into your opponents head so much that he’s no longer 100% focused on basketball, that’s great. How do you help you team when you get tossed from the game?

  • Hammer

Co-sign lahuey. It takes smarts. Dennis rodman was gr8 @ that. Zo knows all about that. Hahaha

  • flipnoyce

I play so much better when someone is talking that trash. It brings out the warrior in me. As the saying goes Don’t Get Mad, Get Even!!! I remember when Chuck called out Yao Ming in his first couple of years saying that Yao couldn’t score more than 30 pts or something, but Yao showed up and CHUCK loss a bet.Which was to kiss a Donkeys ASS. LET YOUR GAME SPEAK VOLUME RATHER THAN WORDS PLAY YOUR GAME!!!! that is my motto whem I’m hoopin in the aspalt or in the hardwood against anybody. Friends or no friends, I just play my game!

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

I feel you on that allen. although, id say your analogy is flawed. Its a very common view across all races, that an avg lookn white dude will be a worse hooper than an avg lookn black dude. Whereas, anyone who believes black ppl are intellectually inferior are just racist a$sholes. I see your point, but the comparison in not apt….. ….. ….Jtaylor, DO NOT put sherron in the same category as eddy curry. One guy came in kinda out of shape and is improving, the other is a lardhippo.

  • http://sdjfklf.com Jukai

NBK: There really isn’t any trash talking in MMA, there isn’t. You don’t watch MMA and you probably don’t watch boxing outside of the stupid hype pre-fight sh*t they always throw out.
Fists always end trash talk. Maybe you grew up in a softer area. It’s fine.

  • http://slamonline.com Michael Whyte

    Cosign Noah

  • Heals

    And the beat goes on…

  • http://slamonline.com riggs

@jeffH: leading the league in rebounding because your team has no one else other than taj gibson to do it is not really something to praise him for.

  • rob

boston is winning so all ya’ll shut up bout garnett. he can do whtever. theyre winning, his attitude is jus his way of expressing toughness” the end

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/ Diesel

come on riggs – you’re stretching now trying to devalue Noah. What does it matter who else on his team can/can’t rebound? He’s outrebounding his opponents, not his teammates. Deng and Gibson are both good rebounders anyway,

  • The Philosopher

    I never talked trash. Never.
Even when one was talking trash to me. This is basketball I am referring to.
I was a pretty good ball player.
Could have done some things if I were not so focused on women and money.
Anyways, I didn’t mind the talk. I’ve always just kept it moving. Usually, the talk would cease after a while, anyway.
And, the main reason that I did not talk trash is because, I can get really offensive lyrically. The trolling that I do up here is child’s play compared to what I am capable of.
    Allenp sparks the topic…

  • Ali Saadat

    I just know I’m a Noah fan.

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

@EtheKnicksfan: itchbays??? Faaantastic word. Sitting in the office and i laughed so loud, my assistant jumped in to ask ‘whats up?’.
I was quite the baller back in Europe, 6’2″, fast reactions, had my elbow at rim height at times and leading shotblocker on my teams from age 18-24.
Also could jam like it was nobody’s business and i always got the assignment to guard the other team’s top player, 1-4, sometimes even some 5′s. Like Sparker, i had a serious temper/big time emotions and i talked LOADS of trash. I hardly ever got T’d up cause i always knew how far i could take things w/o hurting my team.

Some of my best games have been me and opponents yapping away and throwing our best moves at one another, then shaking hands after the game with a smile of acknowledgement. I LOVE KG’s emotional outbursts (sure they aren’t for young ears) but these guys yapping about him in the L need to grow some thicker skin. I’m sure they’ve heard worse over the course of their careers.

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

There also are differences in on/offcourt behavior. In ’07 when the C’s were in Rome for Europelive, my girl and i went to the player’s hotel one morning and got pics with nearly all the players (Raps & C’s), KG was cracking jokes with us like he’d known us forever (9am, pre-practice, some grumpy players in the mix) and a few days later we shared a table in the Hotel lobby for after practice drinks.
The man is as cool as they come in the NBA in my book (close 2nd to Dirk imo)

  • Harlem_World

Sports is competition. Competition is about getting that edge. Trash talk is a game inside the game – if you can mentally break your opponent and get an advantage from it, you do it. Guys who are weak enough to be effected by it in a negative way don’t belong in the winners circle. Harsh? No, just true.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Darksaber is on some paparazzi shtt

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

    @Tarzan: Woooord.
Nah, i’ve been blessed to meet a few of those guys the last 3 years due to my move from EU to Asia, and some luck of course..

  • K.a.

Lol allenp’s the trick is to play with skinny cats comment. Ive played with guys who trash talk and its really a double edge sword. You can psyche other but can do it urself at same time. If u dont have the mouth just gotta try ur best to not let them get in ur head. But dont be a punk azz biyatch by suddenly talking when u got the upper hand.

  • K.a.

That said i used to love KG but now i think hes a punk. He needs to stop picking on smaller guys.

  • http://www.bunzl.com.au OZ Baller

    KG is a biatch
