Kobe Bryant: Youngest to 26,000 Career Points

The Black Mamba had a rough shooting night in the losing effort, but he did manage to notch yet another historical milestone. From the Daily News: “Kobe Bryant went into tonight’s game against the Denver Nuggets needing 17 points to reach 26,000 for his career, the 12th player in league history to reach the mark. He also would have been the youngest, at 32 years, 80 days, faster than Wilt Chamberlain (32 years, 114 days). Bryant hit the milestone when he scored on a short turnaround jumper in the opening moments of the second half.”

In other news, I bet he’ll also be the youngest to reach 26001! Slow day…

  • Chris

Regardless of who you are, you have to admire him for this.
Like how he plays or not, a true baller will respect this, it’s not something that can be done in 3 seasons, it’s a mark of longevity.
    Congrats.

  • tRay

Big ups to the Mamba to bad he took 32 shots to get there with no win to show for it.

  • javy

Keep going at it Kobe, while other fools dance on stages around the country. Keep doing your thing!!!

  • Ben

It took Wilt 9 seasons to do it versus 14 for Kobe

  • kobesBESTfriend

that alltime scoring record is sooooo close!

  • Ali

Nice record to have, more than likely KB was pissed about the loss. Pau kinda came up short of his early season averages and L.O. was M.I.A. in the scoring block. Denver’s energy at home is off the charts!

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Wilt would have never done the things he did back then in today’s NBA, so what Kobe is doing is damn impressive.

  • JTaylor21

The primemer BALLHOG strikes again. Congrats kob on a decade plus full of 11-32 and 6-24 nights.

  • B*Ridge

are you kidding @IAMORANGE$EVER? Wilt would be Dwight Howard stretched out another inch taller, a defensive beast of a man, oh and by the way, even with pace adjustment to todays game his scoring would be off the charts, you tell me who in this league right now would even slow down Wilt? I would say Dwight would make him work and maybe Bogut, two best defensive big men right now. so that means at most he would play them 6 games, that leaves 66 games of Orlando/Laker Shaq scoring. please tell me how Wilt would not be any good in the NBA right now?

@Jtaylor21: C’Mon man. I know you hate the guy, but you have to respect the signifance of this accomplishment. Also, Kobe is no longer a “ball hog”. The Lakers have had one of the best offenses in the league for three years now and that offense is predicated on ball movement. Certianly, last night he took a high volume of shots at a low percentage, but he was trying to shoot his team back into the game when other teammates offense was failing. On the season he only has 2 games with more than 22 shots. Also, don’t act like for his career he has simply relied on volume shooting to score. In the past, you’ve referenced that his percentage is worse than your boy LBJ’s. For their careers, Kobe has shot .02% lower than LeBron. That means for every 1000 shots they both take Kobe is making 20 less and 2 less out of every 100. In a stretch of 5 games if player 1 and player 2 both took 100 shots and player 1 made 2 less than player 2, no one would say that he was significantly more inefficient.

  • http://slamonline.com tina

@JTaylor21 calm down with the hate hehehe. It’s gonna be a long season, you might want to save some of it for later. No matter how he played he still logged 26,000 pts.

  • big boi

@B*Ridge the fact career ft percentage is 51 and the mere fact athletes are much stronger compared to wilts time.

  • http://www.slamonline.com jumpman3224

Here is another stat, that shows just how close Kobe and LeBron’s efficiecny really is. Per FGA, Lebron averages 1.34 points and Kobe averages 1.31 for their respective careers.

  • JalepinoSausage

@ KObes best friend who also likes to hang with his nuts. BUT NOT THAT CLOSE :-)

  • JalepinoSausage

Yeah KOBE . KEEP RAPING WHILE GETTING AWAY WITH IT. MOST OF THESE CHUMPS DON’T MIND.

  • Bruno

a decade full of 11-32 and 6-24 night can’t get you to 26,000

  • MUBWAR

looooool at Bruno. I am not a fan of Kobe but he has my respect. 3 to 4 years ago when the Lakers were struggling, Kobe was unstoppable. I remember watching that 81 he drop on my raptors, the 63 he drop in 3q against the Mavs and the soo many 45 plus that he drop that year. simply amazing

  • http://lace30002000@yahoo.com jonathan

i hate haters when they know a person is good and cant admit it. YOur self esteem maybe low.
    lol GO BLack mamaba.

  • MUBWAR

go black mamaba? its mamba dude…

  • http://www.slamonline.com NickthaQuick

Pretty sure if Kobe would shoot 20-20, 10-10 fts, 5 assists, 5 rebounds JTailor would still say that Kobe is a ball hog. To people like JTailor Kobe is just an average basketball player with average skills who got lucky to play with Shaq and then got lucky again to play with Gasol and lucked out even more to play against an injury depleted Boston team last year and an inexperienced Magic team the year before. For all the accomplishments Kobe has, JTailor always seems to have a reason why it isn’t as impressive. From how he copied Jordan’s moves to how he wants to gets 6+ rings. It just doesn’t stop. As a reason basketball fan, you just have to let him wallow in his shallow hatred and keep on making up excuses why Kobe isn’t as good as he is. Not all Kobe fans worship him – we are well aware of his shortcomings – but we accept that he is no average basketball player. You, sir, have your issues.

    yawn…

LBJ and KD35, just hope you live long enough witness it.

    JTaylor, speaks the truth!

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Bean is gunnin for that most missed shots title.

  • kobesBESTfriend

Jtaylor and jalepinosausage are losers…when Mamba scoops his 6th in June u both will go home crying 2 momma

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

This is kinda false. As ben pointed out, wilt got his in less seasons, so he got it faster. Most of these ‘youngest to’ stats are bs when seen from a larger perspective.

  • hoodsnake

Big up Kobe! Not a big Mamba fan but he tried to shoot them out of that hole. That’s what he get paid for I guess. The Nuggs just showed that bigger isn’t necessary better

  • http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/olybb/news/story?id=5493184 Jackie Moon

Kobe thinks he didn’t play enough minutes. That’s the diff.

  • Blackphantom

    JTaylor is just sad

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Kobe is a fine player indeed. Now you compare him to Wilt, Karl Malone, MJ in how many years to get to that point it’s clearly not very impressive on KB part… This is a nice milestone for KB fair enough. Someone that screams and hollars about how Kobe does it then at the same sentence the other much better legends should be respected and mentioned. Most of all the best 5 in history of NBA should always be mentioned they are Wilt, Russell, Bird, Magic and Jordan.

  • Jackie Moon

  • flipnoyce

I’m sorry, but If I was to make a starting five past and present all in their prime, to represent the earth against alien ballers Kobe would not make my list. As good as he lead himself to be and the amount of fans he has my answer would still be NO. NO.NO. He would definitely not make my starting five of all time. Anyways back to reality, the only reason why I watch the Lakers is because I love seeing them lose. I use to have alot of respect for Phil until he went to the Lakers. Without him Kobe would not have any of those rings.

  • Jackie Moon

If I were to make a team of USA ballers, I would be worried to leave Kobe off, because they might end up with bronze.

  • Hammer

Standing ovation 4 the gr8 KB8! Hate the lakers, but I luv watching kobe play. The closest player that resembles mj. Who knew after watching him hoist those airballs n utah as a rookie n the playoffs he would reach this milestone? I remember watching that as if it happened yesterday. Congrats 2 kobe!

  • Blackphantom

@The Seed you know I’m a big Kobe fan too but…all-time scoring record?? I don’t know about that one, he has alot of miles on his body and he’s starting to age, you really think he’ll make it there before his body forces him to retire?

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

If Kobe didnt wear that stupid purple and gold, I might actually root for him…. (congrats, I guess)

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Lakers to lose in the 2011 playoffs and Phil Jax will (really, seriously) retire… BOOK IT!!!!

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

seed is on that redballs. hes still 12,000+ away. hes been in the league 14 years. you saying hes only 2/3 of the way done scoring all he ever will? beans gonna score 27ppg for ten more years???????

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Kobe can get scoring record. All he has to do is play at a high level for six more years, then have some 20ppg years. Kobe is the MAMBA and the rest just got snaked. BOOK IT!!!

  • flipnoyce

This article forgot to mention that he came in the league at the tender age of 17 yrs old. He was the youngest to be drafted, and with that said its only fitting that he’s the youngest to score 26,000 point milestone. Wilt didn’t start his pro career until he was 23 yrs old. Get yours now Kobe cause in a couple more years ShamWow is gonna take your thunder and still fall short behind the GREATEST, and we all know who that is. Furthermore The Greatest was drafted at 21 in case someone wants to make another comparison!!!!

  • too cool

    way to go! yeah!

  • http://kb24.com DreXnaW21

Beast! disappointing loss though against the Nuggets :(

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

    flipnoyce
Please understand Kobe was a benchwarmer his first years in the NBA. Some people trying to keep Kobe down. Too bad, he got the record anyway. If Kobe would have kept playing with Shaq he would not have the record, but sense he could take the HEAT of trying to lead a team. It helped him having some scoring sprees and also gave KObe some hunger when guys like you were saying just four years ago. Kobe will never make it to the top. Also imagine if Kobe got to play with a franchise and became their leader like Bron and MJ from the Jump, He would be at about 28,000 points now. JUST BOOK IT!!

  • KB8toSG8

@flipnoyce…..Its also funny that MJ wouldn’t have a ring without Phil too right? Or without Pippen too right? Put a lid on it dude…..and Kobe didn’t even start playing until Phil came around. He wasn’t even given many minutes dammit. @Tarzan, JTaylor….don’t you guys have other problems? Like maybe learning how to win games that actually matter? and JTaylor……just shut up would you? KB isn’t a loser like LBJ is and that’s enough for all of us. LBJ=Loser.

  • Jay Reyes

Youngest player to reach 26,000 points pertains to that certain player’s age… it wasn’t The Player to reach 26,000 points in the shortest time… so Wilt would’ve been the guy who reached the 26,000 point mark in a short period of time, but kobe is still the youngest…
