No Meniscus Left in Brandon Roy’s Knees

Gotta feel sorry for Roy, who says he will keep playing through the pain until he gets microfracture surgery. From the Oregonian: “There’s no meniscus left to operate on in Roy’s left knee. ‘Nah. None. Not in my right, either,’ Roy said Friday. The reason Roy’s knee has been swelling up regularly, to the point where it has already been drained twice by Blazers‘ doctor Don Roberts this season, is because there is no cartilage to absorb the pounding associated with running and jumping. ‘The problem is bone-on-bone there,’ Roy said. ‘Dr. Roberts calls it ‘arthritic knee.’ It’s just something I’m going to have to deal with for the rest of my career.’”

they can grow it replacement cartilage in a dish in a lab to go anywhere in the knee but the ankle this i all know too well cause its bone on bone & very painful to walk so i know he is trying to place the pain somewhere else but this gets way to intense over a time, too bad cause he is a very great player & along with Oden bad luck for the Blazers, i hope for him their is a way to play further, love of the game.

I wonder if this has anything to do with him coming back so early after surgery last year.

Maybe it’s time to give Rudy Fernandez the minutes he wants, and let’s see what the Spaniard can really do. Think he can be really good if the Blazers give him starter minutes.

Guess this is why he said he’ll be picking his spots and not attacking the rim so much this year.

I feel your pain trailblazing… Watching Roy in this new season to me, he seemed to have lost his passion, and IMO has been a bit over-rated this year.. Had no idea he was playing through so much pain.. I think we still got a playoff spot, but the curse continues..

D-ZAM! This sucks. I know we can still make the playoffs tho. But the thing is that by now,we should have been title conteders. That’s what really makes this even worse. I was hoping every1 would come back healthy this yr and get back on track 2 b contenders. It pisses me off more than anything that we just can’t get healthy. I’m not saying 2 blow this thing up just yet,but things r looking bleak n p-town

Sad. Take care of yourself, Brandon. Health first.

He this was something he was going to be dealing with for the rest of his career. TRY the rest of your life Brandon!

    Best wishes to gifted player…

Damn why couldnt he just have torn Acl or something, at least he can still have a chance of coming back strong after serjury or something. With this, it will affect him for the rest of his life, every single game he plays in. Its hard out here for a Blazer Fan

  • ClydeSays

Gah! Sorry for Roy. That’s got to be insanely painful.

Get well soon Brandon. And maybe see what kind of advice Dejuan Blair has to offer.

He better get replacement cartilage surgery (either grown in a lab or from a cadaver) or he’s gonna be in a world of pain his whole life. He’ll be out of it for at least 12 months (a good friend of mine was out for 18, but she’s now back on the court playing)

  • Jose

Hie health in whole and in gereral must be looked at, not just his career. Roy, go get yourself fixed, i’d rather see you 100 in a year or 2 then sub par, in pain the rest of you career

  • dma

well, we’ve always got Durant.. oh snap… we blazer fans are on suicide watch.

  • Hammer

Penny. T-mac. G-hill. Should we add roy? Hopefully not. That would b a shame

He better just get surgery now

Told you Joe Johnson was better.

I’m a lifelong Blazers fan and I like Roy. But the Blazers should trade him if they are serious about winning a championship. He is injury-prone, and no team will win a championhsip if they depend on him. Just look at Houston and how much time they have wasted counting on McGrady and Yao. Portland will not be a serious contender as long as they have Oden and Roy in major roles on their team.

time to take some time off and strengthen the muscles surrounding the knee and the ankles. it might be time to give phoenix their medical staff a call.

I hope Brandon Roy gets good surgery to replace the cartilage in his knees, I guess that when there is so much money involved there must be a way to do it. I think this might be why Rudy Fernandez was not traded after all these statements in the summer about wanting to go to Europe.

breaks my baketball-heart to hear this, my 2nd fav player… damn

  • jim

I’m not going to be politically correct here.. I’m very disappointed and to be honest pissed off. I’ve been a die hard fan since 1984 and this is just another instance of blazer management not making the right decisions.. how is it that Roy’s knees went bad right after his “fat” contract! Unbelievable

  • al

For Roy and Oden: the Carl Lewis lesson – it’s hard to accept, but you’re already wealthy and you wanna be able to simply walk to the corner store when you’re 40. It ain’t rocket science – it’s about quality of life.

  • Vu

there has to be some exaggeration on Roy’s part. he can’t have no meniscus. bone on bone is excruciatingly painful and you wouldn’t be able to bear any weight on it, let alone play sports.
